A blast from the past

The original Game & Watch system was released in Japan in 1980 and was the very first handheld gaming console created by Nintendo. Now you can get your hands on a piece of history with a brand new entry in the series – a special golden Game & Watch that includes the original Super Mario Bros., a digital clock, and more!

Play Super Mario Bros. – Game & Watch style!

Jump over bottomless pits, stomp Goombas, and enter Warp Pipes just as you remember – but with even tighter controls thanks to the system’s +Control Pad. Go it alone or pass to a friend for some two-player competition!

Even more Mario!

Looking for more of a challenge? Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels comes packed in, but if you’re wanting a more casual experience, then Ball (with extra Super Mario flair!) should tickle that fancy.

Time for fun

As time passes, the included digital clock may play 35 different animations – including some guest appearances from Mario’s friends and foes! Keep your eyes on the clock when saving Princess Peach isn’t on the current agenda.

    Super cute nostalgia

Amazing! I’m too young to remember the original but I very much enjoy the 2020 re-release. The console is super cute and I was a little shocked at first how small it is. It’s not larger than a pack of cigarettes. Comes with three preinstalled games: Super Mario, Super Mario 2 and Mario Ball. The console is made of well, let’s say medium quality plastic which probably would easily crack if dropped but I am not going to check. The backlit LCD is of good quality with 10 levels of brightness. The viewing angles are a little poor but I think overall this is true to the LCDs of that bygone era. The sound is good too with 10 level adjustment as well and overall the device feels like literally taken straight from the 80s. Once you get bored of playing Mario you can set it to the Time mode which will display fun animations and change the colour scheme based on the current time of day. The console is charged via a USB-C port and while it comes with a cable you will need to purchase a charging brick separately if you don’t have one already. I guess the only thing I’d love to see on this thing is a headphone jack because if you want to play this in bed without waking your family in the middle of the night the only option is to turn the sound off completely which is a shame because I think the experience would be complete with being able to listen to the iconic Mario theme via earphones. Overall I think it’s a wonderful little console for the price and Nintendo kicked it out of the park with this one. If only they would bring the GameBoy consoles back that would be fantastic..

    WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! I ABSOLUTELY LOOOOOVE IT

WOW!!!!!!!!! I love this Mario game and watch so so much it looks absolutely amazing the red and gold colour goes back to the original game and watch colours in the 1980s its the same size as the originals too the screen is a very vivid and colourful lcd display and even though the screen is small to modern standards its still very clear and feels a good size when playing the games on it the Graphics are classic Mario through and through and it’s definitely got that classic retro feel to it you get super Mario bros and super Mario bros 2 (lost levels) plus a Mario version of Nintendo’s classic ball game and a clock/alarm all built into the system the D-pad is absolutely perfect in my opinion it feels very responsive and has great feed back during game play the A and B buttons work perfectly too and the whole handhold system feels very very well made it has that Nintendo quality feeling to it and you can see and feel that they have put a lot of time and work into making this a good quality well made item its got a built in battery which should last for around 8 hours of gameplay you get a small Charging cable provided for charging the system as well it has a small speaker on the left of the system which is surprisingly loud for such a small thing and even if you turn it up full it doesn’t have any distortion at all which is very impressive it also has some great additional features too there’s 35 hidden feature to discover (because Mario 35 year anniversary) i wont tell you any because its part of the fun finding out for your self the controls feel like there very similar to the NES controller layout which also give t that retro feeling I’m extremely impressed with this i ordered it on the day it became available for pre orders on Amazon and i waited patiently for its release and received it on release day hoping it would meet my expectations and its exceeded my expectations to be honest I can’t express how much I recommend this item if your a gamer or your buying for a gamer or a retro collector trust me you/they will no be disappointed they way its packaged the way it feels the way it looks and plays is absolutely worth every single penny of the £49.99 price tag yes its not cheap but its Nintendo its very collectible and LIMITED and its retro too it truly is unique and i HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend this game and watch i could talk about it for days WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

a collective memory of those post-70s/80s kids

finally i got my own nintendo “game and watch”, 40 years after first played it at a friend’s homethis “game and watch: super mario bros” console has a combination of classic design from “game and watch” and nintendo famicom, red casing, golden metal plate, black d-pad, grey option buttons, as well as red round game buttons; also, this console has exactly the same size as classic “game and watch”, nintendo fans must love it!it includes the “ball” game, which was the very first game of “game and watch”, but the character in this version became mario! so it’s a combination of “ball” (1980) and “mario the juggler” game (1991)the “ball” game plays with only 2 buttons (left/right), i could either control it with the d-pad (left/right) or a/b buttons, or even combination of d-pad/a/b buttonsthere are also 2 super mario bros game included, however i found i’m too old to play mario bros in such tiny 2.5 inches screen, so i sticked only to the “ball” game, i believe “game and watch” console is only good for “game and watch” games, or else it would be a pain in playing much detailed game with it, no way enjoyable to mei was going to use it as a desktop clock when i ordered it, i even prepared a console stand for it! however, i just found it would turn off automatically after 3 minutes idle, unless i plug in the usb-c cable, i was quite disappointed about it, i don’t want a wired clock!it’s quite enjoyable to watch the clock screen running, good way to kill time in watching mario/luigi run around the screen, i found i could create more enemies to make mario/luigi busy by pressing game control buttons, it’s very funny, you should try itthere may be surprises when minute changes, also it will show different goodbye screens before it sleeps£49.99 is not cheap for a simple game console like this, but it’s definitely a collective memory of those post-70s/80s kids like mehope you find these information helpful

Bought for the nostalgia but loving the old school gameplay

Growing up I had the Zelda duel screen Game & Watch that I loved so I pre-ordered this delightful piece of nostalgia on the day it was announced. The unit has the look and feel of the classic 80’s hardware albeit with the updated d-pad on the left side. I have not played Super Mario Bros in years and the game is a perfect replica of the NES original and plays very well on the hardware. The button placement is a little awkward for people with larger hands, being at the bottom of the unit, but I quickly got used to it. USB-C charging is a nice inclusion when some manufacturers are still including obsolete micro-USB on similar size/price devises. The inclusion of the real SMD2 is a nice addition since it was not released outside of Japan in 1986, and is tough compared to the first game. The unit also includes an updated version of the ‘ball’ the very first Game and Watch game, which is a fun bonus and fun to play in short bursts. For anyone that grew up at the time of the original NES I don’t think they will be disappointed. Really hoping we get a Zelda one to celebrate 35 years in 2021 with Legend of Zelda and Zelda II The Adventure of Link.

    A great idea, almost perfect

When this was first announced a lot of people complained it was expensive for a device that only lets you play 3 games. They pointed out devices that cost much less and that had 150 games on them. They pointed out that the original Game and Watch cost £14.99.I think these people forget a few things. They forget that a few good, classic games to choose from is better than 150 shoddy ones. They forget that £14.99 in 1980 is £65 in 2020 due to inflation. They forget people like me, in my late 30s, who last played computer games in their teens, who don’t want to have to download gigs of updates, do in game purchases, or any signing into an account or subscription nonsense.I’ve got 20 minutes to kill, I want a device that’s ready to go, small. simple but enough to keep me occupied for that time. The reason it loses a star is due to the following reasons:* Mine had a couple of dead pixels in the middle of the screen – not a massive deal, I’ll return it and get another one, but if you’re a collector and fire it up for the first time in a few years, you might be disappointed.* The A / B buttons should be hard plastic I think – rubber for primary controls feels weird and not as responsive (unlike the D-pad)* The unit is Made in China – one of the reasons I thought it was £50 was because it would be made in Japan and carry the labour costs associated with that. I’m disappointed it’s not.

Oh to have had this technology when they first came out!

Wow! So many memories just from unwrapping this – first impressions are that its smaller & lighter than the old ones and I’m genuinely more annoyed than I should be that it doesn’t have that stand on the back. The unit itself is perfect – exactly how you expect it to look and play and I am really impressed with it. Just a shame my reflexes aren’t what they used to be and I died A LOT on first play! The beeps for “ball” bring back a nostalgia… and the memories of just how irritating they were then too 😀

    For Collectors Only

The device looks reasonably well made and the screen is nice and bright. The games play well and there are no issues with screen blur. However because the device is so small and the buttons are tiny it makes actually playing the games quite awkward. Partly this is because the buttons although very small are also quite widely spaced apart, so the whole thing feels award. The clock feature is nice with different backgrounds and animations. However for some obscure reason it plays sounds when in clock mode. Muting the volume will mute the volume for both game and clock mode. Without any kind of stand thought the clock mode is a bit of moot point as the device lays flat. Additionally the device has no alarm function and will go to sleep (powering off the device) after 5 mins. When its gone to sleep/powered off you need to press and hold the power button to switch the device back on again. Therefore making the clock a bit of waste of time. Overall its a nice little novelty item, the packaging and presentation is nice. But its just a novelty collectors item.

    Warning its tiny

It’s well made, packaging is great and it sounds and plays brilliantly as you would expect from Nintendo. Its just too small! I don’t have huge hands but after playing SM for a while my hands were aching like crazy. Another strange thing is the original game and watch came with a little retractable stand at the back, these ones don’t, shame really as it would have made a cool looking but rather expensive clock! Fun but too small for the price in my opinion.
