The first joystick didn’t work but the second one works ok (don’t know about the other 2 yet)

The first joystick we replaced didn’t work so well, still drift to the left so we tried again with another one and it works ok (not great but good). Hopefully the rest is ok.The tool set was missing the tweezer and pry which was hard to put things together without the tweezer! Instead we got 4 screwdrivers which only 2 of them matches the screws (the other 2 are completely useless)At the end it got the job done.

Cost effective and quick way to repair drift in two pairs of Joycon controllers.

I’m really pleased I bought this pack. The four thumb sticks it contained allowed me to fix my kid’s two sets of controllers quite easily (following the instructions online). The tools that came with the kits are actually quite good quality. I’d bought a separate kit of tools thinking the included tools would be of lower quality like other all-in-one electronic repair kits I’ve used before, but ended up really liking the tools in this kit. Using the included thumb sticks is definitely easier than opening up the old thumb sticks, cleaning them, and the reassembling them.I would have given 5 stars instead of 4 if a plastic set of tweezers was included in this kit (needed to safely detach the battery connector in the joycons), but that is a minor complaint. My kids had all but given up on using our switch given the joycon drift, but after replacing the thumbsticks they’re now happily playing it again.

    Exactly what I needed!

Perfect kit! It took me about 10 minutes to replace 1 joystick. There is Absolutely no ghosting!! If the only thing wrong with your joycon is a bad joystick this is a must have!! It was VERY easy to install, and there are plenty of “how to” videos on YouTube. You can buy a brand new joycon set OR save 50 bucks and replace the joystick yourself it was very simple. I saw other reviews about the joystick ghosting again after a while…. Guess what!? Ya got friggin 4 OF THEM IN THIS KIT!!!!! So far so good for me! The only draw back is the color caps.. I thought they were super awesome but with them on I couldn’t move left quickly. The tweezers are a LIFE SAVER!!! These tools are strong and magnetic.

Good kit, sticks work and drift is gone – some minor QC issues

I picked up this kit after my kids wear/tear on the switch caused drift in both of my left joycons. I had bought a Power A pro wireless controller but it, too, started to drift after ~ 4-5 months of fairly hard use. The set came as described, contained four replacement thumbsticks and all necessary tools for replacement. It also came with two metal replacements for the plastic ‘locks’ that hold the joycons in place when connected to the switch screen. A few additional screws for the main housing and another couple for internal components. The kit also came with an insert with a basic description and information on youtube videos for instructions. There was also a hand written note from ‘Jess’ thanking me for supporting their small business.Disassembly was straightforward: four tri-wing screws, move battery, three small screws for the piece that held the battery. Once that piece was moved to the side, you get access to the thumbstick. There’s a few very small wires to move/disconnect, one for the thumbstick. The stick is held in by two small screws, one covered by a wire that needs to be moved. Careful pulling the thumbstick, as there is a thin felt/fabric piece that the stick can get hung up on as you pull it through the opening in the case.Replacing the ‘lock’ piece I mentioned earlier is fairly easy, but the piece didn’t end up being a very good fit in my first joycon, but that honestly could be due to our Switch, not the piece, as the system as had some hard play (6- and 7-year olds) and the joycons have been torqued in the slots a few times. I elected to not use the metal piece in the other one.The new thumbsticks went in easily and the wiring and existing screws went back in without a hitch. Thumbstick and all buttons worked perfectly after reassembly. It didn’t even need calibration.Given the price, I’m fairly certain they will last about as long as the originals, but I’m content with that rather than spending upwards of $100 on a new set of joycons as of this writing. There were some minor quality control issues with the kit of tools that came with it, namely in the screwdrivers. All of the heads were slightly off angle from their handles, particularly the tri-wing. It made reassembly a bit difficult and ended up with me nearly stripping one of the case screws. I decided to instead pull it and use one of their replacement screws but it didn’t seem to fit quite as well as I couldn’t screw it in all the way without the possibility of stripping it, as well.Recommended? Definitely. It’s a cheap kit, has all the tools you need, and 30 minutes of my time is hopefully going to make some kids happy tomorrow.

Good but not great, still worth the buy

First thing’s first, my joy con analogs were bad to the point where I could barely correct the direction without pressing as hard as I could without breaking them. The Good: This kit DID do the fix. It has all the tools you need to repair your joy con analogs. The tri tip screw drivers were the right size, plus they are magnetic which was perfect. The tweezers were everything you need to gently disconnect connectors to get components out of the way and the pry tool was great for popping the plastic cases off, and the metal buckles? Probably the best item in the kit.Now the not so good: Good thing this came with 4 analogs because I replaced the 2 in my pair of joy cons and one still drifted downward to the left. It was very light and could easily be corrected but still kind of annoying when you set your controllers down on Animal Crossing for a moment just to get back to the game to see you walking against the ocean. With that being said, I replaced the analog with another provided one, this one works good as it should but it’s still a little disappointing 1 of the new ones failed but its okay because things like that happen. Also the rubber covers for the analogs wouldn’t allow me to turn right on my left analog. Yes I completely wrapped the rubber over the knob and it still would contact the controller when turning right causing no right turns. So those rubber covers aren’t being used. Overall good product, would probably buy again if I had the need.

With this kit I was able to fix replace my drifting thumb sticks with ones that work!

The important part is that I was able to replace the bad thumbsticks with the WORKING sticks that come WITH the kit. There were and are a few things I’m not okay with or confused by. GOOD STUFF FIRST.1) After 10 hours of playing the sticks still work. 2) The screwdrivers are magnetic. 3) Good enough case. Keep the rubberband that keeps the lid from opening. 4) The tweezers are nice with small tips. 5) The tools are useful and I am going to keep the kit for other emergency electronic repairs. 6) the prying tools are durable.NOT SO GOOD STUFF…. 1) Tools are not the most durable but get the job done. Don’t crank on them or pry things with the screwdrivers and tweezers. Use the prying tools for that. 2)Not all the tools are absolutely necessary for stick replacement. 3) The “made in china” barcode sticker thing on the case isn’t very comforting.. umm just for the durability connotations. 4) The thumbstick grips are USELESS. the material is nice but they keep the stick from moving all the way in all directions.OVERALL GET THIS if you need to replace bad thumb sticks. I am very happy that I can use the pair that were drifting. Before I’d buy another pair. Now finding a pair of joycons and the price if you do is absurd. So this kit is WAYY cheaper and this is pretty easy. The difficulty of the replacement has a lot to do with the condition your controllers are in, I think… OVERALLS 3/5 tools 4/5 performance of sticks but 1-2/5 for the extra stuff. I will KEEP the kit with my switch stuff and will update when I have to do it again with a different pair. The real star rating may be a bit high. This kit did exactly what I bought it for though. so. 4/5 😀

    You can do this…

My son has 4 joycons… all of them drifted (past tense). It was so bad that when I tried to calibrate them, every step fails. The step where you have to rotate the stick in a circle, it would register a 25 – 33% section as inaccessible, on every one. This replacement kit changed that. It came with everything needed to change out the sticks, as well as a few extra screws just in case I stripped any. I needed no extra tools. It came with the two magnetized screwdrivers you need, and they were the perfect size. It also had a pair of tweezers, fine enough to handle every tiny ribbon cable in the joy in. The last time I had to do something like this were my PS3 controllers… so I’m not an amateur. I am also not a pro, and used a YouTube video to boost my confidence. I took me just over 2 hours to finish them all, but 4 recalibrations later, and I have a happy kid. I told him to go easy on them, because I find it hard to believe that all four went bad due to defect. Reminds me of the Atari 2600 days. My dad fixed those too. :)Good luck, and take your time. The seller put together a nice package, very personal touch, and professional at the same time. It arrived right on schedule, as well.

What a great and very complete analog stick repair kit!

The description listed several items that were included. All of these were there. What it didn’t mention was that there are also a whole lot of other great parts. Yes, the picture does show these, but I wasn’t sure they would actually be there since the description really only said anything about a few of them. But rest assured, all of what’s in the photo is in the kit EXCEPT for the joy cons themselves which are in the photo and I did NOT expect they would be sending because that’s what we’re repairing with this kit. There are exactly the screwdrivers you need for an analog stick replacement and a few others for other repairs. There were extra screws, because who hasn’t dropped and lost a tiny screw while fixing something. There were several great spudgers perfect for prying this or that apart without damaging it. There is a suction cup with several possible uses. They give you a perfect skinny tweezer that is essential for carefully pulling those little fragile ribbon cables and putting them back later. They’ve given you a couple of metal replacement pieces for the locking mechanism — those plastic ones wear out and they won’t stay on the switch after a while… we’ve replaced some of these already before too, and having them in this kit is really nice. They even included some bonus controller caps that fit over the existing ones (no need to pull those things off and then struggle to get them back on right, which is damn hard and for me nearly impossible). These do improve the grip of the stick in my opinion. The kit includes four analog sticks, which if you’re dealing with a drifting controller as every single Nintendo Switch stick will eventually start to do, you will be able to fix one of them 4 times with this kit, and each time you’re saving 3-4x the cost of the kit by not buying a new joy con. It takes like 15-20 minutes to do if you’re reasonably OK at following a video and taking something apart and being careful to only remove what you need and not accidentally knock extra parts loose.By the way, get yourself a cheap little magnetic parts bowl at Harbor Freight or on Amazon or Lowe’s or wherever, and group your screws so that you will put the right ones back in the right place. There were like 4 different sizes in this thing, and I’d sure hate to have them rolling around on the table getting mixed up. The bowl made that a non-problem. One will cost you $2-3 and I even got mine for free with one of the “free with any purchase” coupons at Harbor Freight. If you don’t have one, get one now, and thank me later. So there were several good videos on YouTube, and as I said, if you’re reasonably OK at taking small things apart this will be a fairly simple project. The two ribbon cables were the single most difficult part, and a nimble hand will be fine with those. Getting it all back together and the buttons lined up and working wasn’t a big problem, and our only moment of disappointment was that right after getting it hooked back up, the stick would never quite calibrate to center. It was slightly off center to the lower right, showing a circle instead of a + on the calibration tool. Recalibrating several times didn’t fix this. It wasn’t drifting, it just wouldn’t quite calibrate. But for some reason leaving it off the device for a few minutes, resetting, reconnecting, and spinning the stick a few times suddenly had it centering perfectly, so I call that a success. The new stick feels good so far. It’s ever-so-slightly more firm than the original but is perfectly responsive and isn’t drifting at least in the first few minutes of using it. If it does start to drift, I’ll be back to post something about how long it lasted. Could be that even if these do eventually drift, you’re still better off having this inexpensive kit of 4 parts and just replacing every however-long because the real Nintendo part definitely doesn’t last terribly long. There are probably other aftermarket wireless-capable equivalents that are inexpensive and don’t start drifting but we’ve had bad luck with aftermarket controllers and wanted to give this a try before going that route. So let’s give it time and see if the longevity is worth doing this over rolling the dice with a full replacement controller. I’d say if each of these were to last a few months we’re coming out quite ahead. The price on this kit is very attractive and a great bargain for what you get. The real Switch controllers are the one crappy part of the Switch. So unreliable and prone to breaking or wearing out in several ways and they still haven’t offered better units after several years. Plan on yours having trouble and this kit will fix both of the two top failures that will happen to you. It will do it inexpensively too, and what a great assortment of tools and parts!!

    Caution not for everyone…

I watched a video on how to swap these out and they make it look pretty easy. However, you don’t grasp just how small and delicate everything is until you have it apart and you are cussing your tweezers for the 7th time as the ribbon cable slips again. If you are good at working on small electronics or have the hands of a surgeon you might be fine. But for a guy with sausage fingers like mine it was a daunting task. I got it done, lost a screw or two, thankfully they provide extras in this kit. The joystick does definitely have a different feel from the original, more stiff I think. Also, the screwdrivers provided (4 total) are not great, they did help me strip the screws as I got them out. Overall, the value is there I saved a set of joy-cons with this purchase. If needed I could do it again 3 more times, but let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.
