    Warning

Hi, too all. I have had many Mad Catz Rats over the years and loved them all. This RAT 8+ seams just as good at first, The design is the same just tweaked a bit the software is good. However, compared to my last RAT 8. The weight is more even with the weights out.Not usually a problem with lifting etc. However, the coating on this mouse is rubbish very slipperymaking lift impossible. I can lift the rat 7 rat 8 rat MMO no problem even with all the rights in.I have not tried any other new rat, But if the coating is the same they are now useless.I have returned this one and dugout my old 7 for now. Hope this helps someone.

A strong piece of hardware let down by price and software

I’ve gotten this mouse coming from a G502 and previously an M65. Neither of which were sufficiently wide for my fat hands. This mouse does not disappoint in terms of ergonomics – key, the width of it in real terms can be configured to be far in excess of contemporary offerings from Logitech, Corsair, et al. And that’s the core part of it, can be configured – I’ve tried this mouse with a palm, crab, and fingertip grip and with the correct configuring it could be made comfortable for any. The left thumb rest rotates and extends/retracts allowing a wider grip or narrower grip as wanted, and the pinky grip can be replaced with a full rest. Frankly, ergonomically it is pretty much perfect – all contact points will always be on the soft plastic far from any sharp points in the design and it can be configured as is needed, it’s no heavier than the 502 and only about 20g over the M65, though if you are using the pinky rest the lack of contour does increase the effort needed to lift the mouse if needed. The overall finish is high quality soft plastic all over, similar to the G502’s main buttonsThe sensor is flawless, I don’t think I need to go over that – you could put this sensor in a rock and it would technically be an excellent mouse. In terms of build quality, this is a notable improvement over the older Mad Catz products – the side buttons are notable solid in place, all exchangeable components are built to very high precision, and the unneccesary aluminimum elements (base, etc) have been removed in favour of hard plastic which is more flush with the mouse components and far lighter. The wheel is surprisingly decent quality – low resistance on the axis and very light feeling, but still clicky – it’s no hyperscoll wheel but it’s sufficiently decent to live with. Now this is where my praise unfortunately ends. The aesthetic is understandably divisive – while I don’t mind it the RGB lighting does make the “gamer” design far more egregious than any other mouse on the market, and the painted on markings are somewhat ugly in all honesty. The skeets have a small issue where if you have a tendency to rapidly and repeatedly lift off the mouse you will rub some of the base plastic on the left skeet against your mat – for some reason this skeet is far lower profile and extended by plastic to make contact alongside the other skeetsThe current software offering is completely atrocious. Starting out, applying profiles has hard locked my PC twice at this point, secondly the default macros and key inputs that can be applied to the buttons do not quite work – they provide input of the key or shortcut for exactly 1ms, which is typically not picked up. Further, there is currently no option to “hold” the input, which is a major failing for many macro applications. Fortunately, I do not currently have a need for such functionality but this is a large portion of my lowered rating.I cannot stress how awful the software utility currently is – all profiles are stored on the mouse’s internal memory, however there is no indiciation of what profile you are modifying, though applying changes within the software will immediately apply the changes to whichever profile you are modifying – in effect, this leaves you with 1 profile that can be actively modified in reality which must be applied to a secondary slot and then your active profile then be modified (repeat) which is a ridiculously unintuitive process and not something I can really explain in full.Following install, the Mad Catz utility also fails to place any shortcuts within the start menu or list the program in the installed programs list – this is easily bypassed but is syptomatic of this mouse’s overall largest failing. If Mad Catz can get their software sorted, then this would be overall an excellent mouse. And in conclusion, the current pricing of the product (£100!!) is well over the value of this mouse. If the software utility was up to industry standards and the price dropped to at most £80, ideally at or below £75, this mouse would get a wholehearted recommendation for those who require a wider mouse thanks to the excellent overall ergonomics and choice of a flawless sensor, but as is I can only recommend this if you truly need a wider mouse with a flawless sensor than even the Razer Naga due to the thickness of your hand completely screwing with the ergonomics of such narrower mice.Amazon also asked me to review battery life. This is a wired product. Amazon please fix.

    wonderful mouse

I bought this mouse about 1 days ago, cos i was really disappointed with Razer Mamba Tournament, which not precised, move on it own. to be honest i was sceptical about a new mouse, and i was wonder if this Mad Catz 8+ worth the money, and if it does what it suppose to do on advertised. but compare with the razer, the 8+ is 1000x better then Mamba. Yes it cost about £100, but for me is worth it, it’s cool, a lot of features, the response time is phenomenal, precision is outstanding, i am really happy, and i encourage everyone wants a nice spectacular mouse, however the mouse price tag

    Non-Existent software/support

I have literally been waiting for this mouse for years since it was first announced! Having been a RAT 9 owner for many years, I was very happy with its funky design, customisable features and weighty feel (by adding the optional weights) … its design is true in keeping with the pleasingly outlandish RAT design philosophy. The materials used are clearly of a high quality & whilst the palm-rest is adjustable, the thumb-rest is now static … hey ho, I can live with that. And now for the problems:In order to set user profiles and use the advanced features of the mouse, the quickstart guide points you to their website’s download section. Going there, you’ll find a whole host of devices listed … but not this one?!?! I contacted Mad Catz asking where I can get hold of the software and its almost been a week since and I have no response.Since then, I have noticed that the mouse won’t always work when the PC boots (disconnecting/reconnecting it works). I suspect this is a driver/software related issue, however my previous point illustrates the importance of good customer/device support.Despite the quality of the actual mouse itself, I am quite disappointed … been waiting for a long time for this and stumped up the rather steep £220 to buy. However, I’m not willing to pay the price for what is one of the most expensive mice on the market today, only to experience intermittent connectivity issues and seemingly non-existent customer support … this one is going directly back to Amazon for a refund.

    Almost a really great mouse.

After about 20 minutes of finding the perfect settings for me, this mouse was extremely comfortable to use.Lots of buttons, colour customisation, profiles, adjustable to fit your grip. It’s one huge let down is the teflon pads on the bottom, after about a month one of them started to peel away, which is really poor form for something that otherwise is a great quality build. If you buy this mouse, I’d advise picking up some teflon sheets elsewhere on amazon so you can replace them.

Löst meine 8 Jahre im einsatz gewesene R.A.T 5 ab

Die R.A.T 6+Naja.

TLDR: Do not buy if you are a Windows user.

I had a RAT 5 a few years ago, and I was devastated the day it stopped working as Mad Catz (then owned by Cyborg) – had ceased to exist as a company, and you couldn’t get this mouse anywhere.Seeing this on Amazon, I decided to purchase the RAT 6+, which appears to be the same as the RAT 5 under the original Mad Catz brand – first impressions were pretty good, the quality of the mouse wasn’t as good as the original RAT 5 (kinda annoying since this mouse is £30 more expensive than the original), however I was willing to accept that since the mouse overall is still comfortable as hell, and the rRAT 5 is to this day, one of my favorite mice. The positives mostly end there I’m afraid. If you are a Windows user, you’ll probably find you will have issues with this due to driver conflicts. I have yet to find out what driver is conflicting, but what I can say is that on essentially every Windows machine I have, this mouse works for about 20 minutes before it seems to freeze – you will not be able to use it for about 5 seconds, then it will reconnect.I have tried using this mouse with my Mac and Linux systems, and it works flawlessly, no disconnects. Having discovered this, I decided to try and see if the Mad Catz tool could maybe flash new firmware onto the mouse – nope. The application from their site just plain and simply sucks. I did some research and I’m not the only one experiencing this issue on Windows – a lot of users on Reddit mention the fact that Mad Catz support is also quite disgusting – with this in mind, whilst I can, I’ve made the decision to return this to Amazon instead of having to deal with Mad Catz directly.I wanted this mouse to be great, and it is actually almost a great mouse, but there are obvious flaws that have not been addressed by Mad Catz, which for the price of this product is unacceptable.I will keep an eye on Mad Catz products and may try a new mouse in the future, but right now, I can’t recommend that anyone picks this mouse up if you intend to use it on Windows.

Great mouse, not so great software

I do like FPS games and I was always finding that my pinky was resting on the table/mouse mat, getting in the way and created inconsistency (must blame the tools!). I’d been looking for ages for something with a “shelf” for both the thumb and pinky rest. This one was expensive, but I went for it.I plugged it in and had a go at “physically” configuring it… moving the thumb rest, palm rest, angles, distance, etc. At first I found it quite fatiguing to hold, but little tweaks and I got comfortable.I initially found it great for the smoothness, but difficult to be really precise as that resting pinky did used to give me a little bit of pivot point. After a few months of adjusting, I do feel it’s done what I wanted it to. I more consistent aim and I feel a little bit more accurate than I was before! So, someone looking for the same sort of thing should go for it.I did clip the mouse “feet” early on on my hard mouse mat and it caused a scraping feeling. However, I contacted support and they sent me a couple of packs of “feet”. So that was good service. The one downside to the mouse is the software. It has lots of configurability, but it’s not that user friendly. The worst bit is that the settings are stored on the mouse, so when you load the software… it doesn’t load the current settings. When you feel like tweaking it a bit, you need to remember what you set it to before. Not great!I’d have given it 5* if it weren’t for the software… but if you know to write down/export your settings…
