Edition: Mario Set

Control a real-life Mario Kart with Nintendo Switch and watch it come to life in the game.

Race a real-world Mario Kart through your home. Use the Nintendo Switch system to control your kart and watch as it reacts to what’s happening in the game as you boost and drift to victory. Your in-home course comes to life on-screen with a view from right behind the driver’s seat.

Turn your home into a Mario Kart course of your design

Place gates and customize courses in the real world, then see them come alive with different in-game environments like jungles and snowscapes and obstacles like Piranha Plants. Use objects from around the house to customize your courses, then watch the game, transform your home into the Mario Kart world.

Zoom around the house with up to three friends

Bring along some friends to race around your custom course in Custom Race or Grand Prix! Just make sure each player has their own Nintendo Switch system, the Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit game, and a Mario kart or Luigi kart.

The magic of augmented reality doesn’t just mean you’ll see your course and opponents come alive on screen. Hit a boost in the game? Watch as your real-life Mario Kart speeds up. Get hit by a Green Shell? Look out, because your kart will slow down! If you’re worried about straying too far from the course, Smart Steering will help guide you along.

The races you progress through in Grand Prix mode are varied-the windy environment might push your kart to the side, while the in-game Piranha Plant gate will bite you if you pass the wrong side. As you play, you’ll unlock more speed settings, costumes, and more. These can all be used to create your custom course. Even Rainbow Road makes an appearance!

Custom course materials not included. Additional games, systems, and karts required for multiplayer mode. Systems and karts sold separately. Game download required and available as a free download on Nintendo eShop. Nintendo Switch Lite plays all games that support handheld mode.

Not worth what I paid for it, but it’s still fun.

Negatives: The wifi signal has to be really strong or the video comes in choppy on the screen. I tested out how far the signal from the Switch carries to the Kart and it’s not very far, about 16 feet like it says. The 4 gates and 2 arrows are made out of cardboard, which is disappointing. One gate already tore from my dog tripping over it. There are only 5 AI’s to play against, which are bowsers minions. I kind of hoped for more. There’s also a bit of a learning curve for younger players.Positives: My daughter loves playing the game. We enjoy setting up different tracks and customizing courses. The grand prix maps are fun but a little difficult since it makes real life objects hard to see through the filters. Since my daughter and I have fun with it, I suppose overall it was worth the purchase. Unfortunately I got price gouged so be careful overpaying for it. It’s worth $99.99, not the $160 I was charged for it 2 weeks ago. (This seller will not refund the price difference, even if it changes right after you pay for it COUGH STARBASE ALPHA COUGH).

Coolest thing from Nintendo in 2020

A great product, the most fun I’ve had with a game or toy in a long time. Just recognize what it can and can’t do. Addressing a couple of common complaints I’ve read:Range: Just driving it around the house, the occasional video hiccup is not an issue, I can pretty drive it anywhere, even behind closed doors and under beds. Racing, however, is a different story; any dropped frame when you’re also dodging virtual shells and trying to stay in the lead can be a disaster. So, track setup needs to be tight and close to the switch, going behind the couch, etc tends to not work out so well. But free driving is a lot of fun in any case.Surfaces: It’s very low to the floor. I have pretty firm carpeting, and the kart handles it fine, as it does my uneven tiled floor. A small lip between the two, though, can get the kart stuck with the wheels off the ground if it’s approached slowly at just the wrong angle. I do find myself occasionally having to pause a race to go give the kart a little push here and there if I stray somewhere I shouldn’t, but any RC enthusiast knows that’s how it is sometimes. I, fortunately, don’t end up with long hairs on the floor, but I’ve read a few reviews of people complaining of tangles in the wheels. I sympathize, but these are pretty tight precision little machines; it’s just gotta be a clean surface.Highly recommend!

Def mario kart fun, though limited to 15 feet.

I’m not inclined to write many reviews, but I felt I should for this game. I’ve been a huge mario kart fan my entire life. I picked this game up to play with family and setup in house. It’s real easy to get setup and playing. The game itself you download off nintendo store for free. Syncing the kart is easy, just a simple button press on the kart itself while following on screen instructions. The kart moves faster than I thought, so a big room is best for doing this, or if you have linking hallways and connected rooms. *tip* it doesn’t like driving up on rugs from a flat surface gets stuck; use a few plain pieces of notebook paper connecting flat surface to over rug and it’ll drive up it just fine. When playing game, you’re limited to the kart being within 15 feet of the console. You can be a room away or through a hallway, but if you start approaching the 15 foot mark, it literally hits a deadzone spot and gives you connection errors and half connects…so it’s like dialup for the time you’re out of the 15ft or close to it, then instantly when back reconnects strongly. I think this is a huge limitation. Would be nice to have a way to extend that distance with a switch extender or something could plug in another room or down the hall.Great game, the only thing that limits it is the 15 foot distance, which theres no way to extend or compensate. Most people don’t have huge clear rooms, so using multiple connected rooms is helpful, but then the 15ft limitation gets in the way.

Multiplayer not as it should be

I bought 2 of these for Christmas because we have 2 switches and I assumed the multiplayer feature would add enormous fun for my kids.Unfortunately a family subscription to Nintendo’s online service is NOT enough. The secondary switch will not allow local multiplayer – Nintendo expects me to purchase a separate Nintento online subscription for the priviledge to use them in the same race.My kids aren’t playing with them because they can’t race together, and I don’t think I would risk wasting more money just to see.Overall the physical product quality is good. It’s not usable on carpet so don’t even bother. It’s a neat gimmick but a bust as a toy. 1 star.

Mario kart live: Home circuit review by a RC collector!

This mario kart game was definitely something else, the moment i saw it i knew i needed it for my collection. The RC itself is about 1/24th scale and works with the Switch of course as the controller. Having an RC with a camera attached is a plus but the AR is really want brings life to game itself. There are however a few things to note before purchase..–There is no physical game in box!–Yes..The game is digital download only and free! You are paying 100$ for the car itself, keep that in mind!–Doesnt work well on carpets or outside.–Nintendo doesn’t want you using it outdoors but it does work outside in some driveways-> when its not too bright outside..As for carpet play? It works, but not too well. Hard wood is recomended.–No suspension–Has Zero suspension, cant go over small objects or slopes or even bumps without getting stuck!–No Replacement parts.–Nintendo missed a big chance here – Why release a 100$ RC car without extra parts? The tires will definitely wear down. Junk, hair, and lint will get stuck inside and around the wheels AND you cant get the rim off the car to clean it..+Final Verdict? :Great idea and cool RC Car AR Mario kart experience! But there is so many flaws and you may just end up having to replace it in the future for another 100$..

Fantastic magical fun I have played for days and days and many more weeks to come!

Bought this day one. Started playing within 5 min out of the box in my tight 1000 sq ft apartment. And I love ever second of it. Its so magical seeing this car zip around my living room while battling off video game racers on the big HD screen! It’s addictive, and, two-4 player is where this game gets crazy and fun!I have played this over 30 hours and not close to being bored. I create new tracks and I can’t WAIT to set this up in a bigger space! Im already seeing people create HUGE mega track with 4 players online. This is one of Nintendo’s greatest inventions. Innovative, fun, addicting, the hottest toy on the planet. SOLD OUT EVERYWHERE! LOVE IT!

    So cool!

This is so much fun! The video is really good. You can’t go too far with it though. Sometimes the checkpoint wasn’t viewed and you have to back track and make sure the camera sees it. The car really goes at a good speed. Even gets boost speed from the ?. Very fun when the cats or dog would be walking by and look like giant monsters. The whole house looks giant. We used toys as obstacles. I drove it under the table and crashed into the legs a bunch and it was fine. I think it holds a charge for a decent time. Easy to charge. Just like playing the video game but extra fun setting up the course and seeing the house from a different view. The course checkpoints are cardboards and stackable but still something that you have to put somewhere when you’re not playing. I don’t really want to fold them completely and put them away bc then I’d have to set them all up again. Overall I think it is really neat and I’m glad we got it!!

It was fun for 30 minutes.

I was happy with it until hair got stuck in the axel. It wrapped around the axel throwing off the steering and made it unusable. I swept right before using it but missed some hair it seems. I’m kinda surprised they didn’t anticipate this kind of issue. The tires do come off but not the rim and it’s very difficult to get to the hair. You will have to meticulously clean each and every time before use. I don’t see this as a good fit for anyone with kids pets or long hair.

The first hot Christmas toy of 2020 has arrived!

Nintendo has really been the king of gimmicks in recent years, luckily for us they are really good at it.This time Nintendo is stepping into the world of augmented reality. In other words, you can put your digital Mario Kart into the real world. You set up course barriers around your room and the kart uses a built in camera to turn any room up to 15×15 into a real and virtual racetrack.Obviously you are going to want hard floors for this to make sure the little kart is able to run on it. You also need a lot of free space to play this game right, but it works fantastically! The built in track design tool is top notch, and the camera picks everything up very fast, so your races are as real time as can be, with no lag that I’ve noticed. And now for the bad. Anyone who’s ever played a Kart game knows that single player is fun, but multiplayer is where it’s at. Unfortunately, because of the nature of what this game actually is, you will need 2 Switches and 2 copies of the game and kart. So, basically another $400 if you already have a Switch and one copy of the game already. Plus, if you don’t have any kind of hard floor in your home, or you have pet hair on your floor you may be in for a rough ride. The Karts aren’t made to take any kind of bumps, and like any RC car, animal fur is your enemy because it can and will get wrapped around the axels.Luckily for me, we have 2 Switches in our house. Unlucky for me, the Luigi version is sold out practically everywhere already, though I obviously did score one as shown in the picture. One more slightly obnoxious thing about it is that they give you the world’s shortest USB-C cable and no power cube to charge it with. This is an expensive endeavor with the new systems not even a month away.If you’re already a Nintendo fan then you’re going to love this, and you probably already own it. If you’re looking forward to the new consoles, this probably isn’t what you want to spend right now. Either way, I’m sure this is going to be right up there with the hot holiday toys this year.
