PlayStation 3 500 GB System

I had seen only positive reviews about these PS3s – some had cosmetic wear but all had been working, functional consoles. My order, however, was a stark disappointment.My PS3 arrived with the disc cover broken, a motor that refused to spin and thus could not read any disks (maybe due to the broken cover). Pieces of the back were barely hanging on, and were moments away from snapping off. AND I received a pleasant surprise – an entire household’s worth of saved game data, hundreds of songs, and movies that were NOT cleaned off the device. around 300GB of the available 500GB were taken up before I could even add a single game to the existing system. I also did NOT receive a wireless controller, though I believe that to be the least of my problems at this point. I did manage to get a “free game”, though you can judge for yourself how many levels of irony that represents.To receive a system that looks dusty is one thing, but to receive one that I paid well over $100 for and it not even perform its most basic function is extremely disheartening. I have NEVER had issues buying from Amazon third-party sellers until now. AVOID THIS SELLER AT ALL COSTS.

I am so so happy with this purchase. My son and I spend lots of quality time together playing video games. I am a mom so he loves to see me falter with the game system, I’m pretty hilarious with my ineptitude so it always is fun. I really enjoy this time we spend together playing video games(badly on my part). It is not isolating at all. We all get involved-we are a family of five. I love that it plays dvds. I use it almost daily!

This is not a review with my thoughts on the 500gb super slim PS3 console as a gaming device. This is a review of my most recent purchase encounter with Amazon. I had a working edition of this model of PS3 for 6 1/2 years before it crashed. I absolutely loved it and it’s one of my favorite gaming consoles.That is why I tried to purchase a used one after my original super slim 500 gb that I bought in 2013 finally crashed at the end of 2019. I decided to invest in a used PS3 super slim 500 gb at a fairly low cost. I bought from the Amazon Warehouse, in Used: Good condition. Shipping was very fast, even faster than expected. I was not impressed with the shipping quality. The inflated cushioning inside the box was deflated, leading me to think the console had been jostling around the entire time it was in transit. The console came with all cables and a controller in an original PS3 super slim box which was great. However, the console DID NOT BOOT UP. Ever. This console has the exact issue my old one does. I plugged the device in and saw the expected red light on the power button, indicating it was receiving power. Then, I pressed the power button, the light turned green as it attempted to boot up and then within 1-2 seconds powered off completely. Now there is no red light. The console is little more than an overpriced brick. Per others I’ve talked to, this issue is often one with the motherboard or the system’s power console. If the motherboard, it can be expensive to repair. More than a used PS3. Regardless, I’m very miffed that Amazon sold me a console advertised in good condition and it never once functioned. Does Amazon not have people testing these devices?? It even had a sticker on the side indicating the hard drive had been reformatted and reset to factory settings. How? It doesn’t turn on! I started a return immediately. I purchased from the Amazon warehouse with the idea in mind that they, as opposed to a smaller game seller who may have few or mixed reviews, would be more reliable. I was proved wrong. If I could, I would give NO STARS because that’s what this purchase deserves. A big, fat nothing, just like that “nothing” Amazon sold me for $150.

Delivery was really fast and shipped well protected so it arrived without damage. I have owned four PS3’s (all died from hard use) so was pleasently NOT surprised this one was like the others. True the Blu-Ray drive was on top, which was different. I own a PS4 so was using its HDMI cable initially, but that caused video and audio issues. After digging around awhile I found the HDMI cable I had used with my last PS3 and connected it up. This seems to have solved the video/audio issues. Plays PS and PS2 games that are available for download via the PSN store.UPDATE: PSN Plus support for the PS3 ends this month (March 2018). No more free games etc. Sony will stop making the PS3 next year (2019) so if you want a new one, better get it now.

Third PS3 after the second one of 7 years finally died. Hit Christmas present with the son, since he liked race cars, airplanes, and deer hunting on the previous unit. The slim design is nice. However, there is a strange glitch that happens every 5-10 minutes in which the screen goes blank. May possibly be the cord, not sure. Other than that, the resolution is as expected and the response of the unit to changing screens is very quick. Recommended if you still like playing your PS3 and earlier games.
