I must be getting a bad batch.

I ordered one, tested it for at least two weeks and heard crackling with audio cuts and issues with disconnecting. Gave up and replaced it hoping it would change. Nope. Audio still crackles and cuts with the headset losing connection. I’m maybe 10-15ft away from ps4 and I’ve reset the headset too so I’m puzzled here because I had to replace my Golds since my dog destroyed one speaker. I expected the sound to be top notch for the price I paid but my golds sounded way better and the Platinum 3D only works for games that has 3D audio. (Which is like two games) People thinks it’s constant 3d and it’s not. Returning this for the Gold headset

BUY THE GOLD EDITION – THIS IS TRASH

First off i own the gold edition headset as well as this platinum version. i purchased the platiunum version for use with my sony VR. this headset was apparently specifically designed for the sony VR- at least that is what the website says.first off- BLUE TOOTH RANGE IS 1/3 THAT OF THE GOLD EDITION: my gold edition sony headset reaches all the way across my house down the stairs and outside we will say about 100 feet. never once cut out, and my voice came in loud and clear to my squad. this PLATINUM edition headset will start cutting out when i reach my kitchen- about 10 feet. also if you go in front of any wall, you will lose signal. once you step outside 10 feet and lose signal you will have to turn off your headset, then walk over to the playstation to unplug the USB adapter. this will reset it. if you dont do this then your mic will not work, you will have audio but no one will be able to hear you.BATTERY:the platiunum boasts that its battery life is longer then the golds. THIS IS FALSE. if you use the 3D surround sound in the platinum headset, you will get about half a day of gaming out of them before you have to charge them. if the headset is on regular mode then it lasts about a hour more..3D SURROUND SOUND :this is a gimmik. it is somthing that every headset on the market comes with now. when using this setting the sound on this headset doesnt really change much. as opposed to my ROG STRIX headset which actually makes it seem like sounds are coming from specific direction.THE MIC:the MIC is horrbile. it is overly sensitive and you cannot get it fined tuned regardless of the MIC tuning software on the PS4 settings. even on its lowest setting it is picking up sound from across the room. when its on its normal setting then it sounds like your screaming at your team, and they will hear every thing going on in your room. the MIC IS TOO SENSITIVE AND TRASHso if you like having your headset cut out every time someone steps in front of the t.v, you LOVE spending 2 minutes restting the headset every couple hours, and you dont want to step more then 6 feet from the playstation . then this is the headset for you!

Better off with the gold instead

Had the gold and they worked great after they broke I got myself a pair of these. Big mistake when I turn the volume up it started to cut out the sound. Then I looked into it and said I had to reset my ps4 controller because the bluetooth might be interrupting the connection so I did and It work properly for not that long then again same issue happened I had to repeat that process over and over. So I found out if you have a lot of bluetooth devices around your home or setup it will disrupt the connect of this headset and cut out the sound and lose connection from the headset to the console and goes quiet with no sound then beeps back in when it reconnects. I don’t recommend this to anyone who has a lot of bluetooth devices.

Perfect for 2 PS4 Pros and about to buy a 3rd

So I can tell you I have read probably over 500 reviews on different headsets and it seems like everyone has a certain flaw when it comes to connecting to the PS4. Well, I purchased one of these a long time ago and loved it so I have a second one now. For people who don’t read instructions I would say to skim through quickly with these. If you buy these and leave it on normal presets I would say they are just average. Preset 1 I think is normal sound and 2 has more bass. After I loaded the 2 presets god of war and I use the uncharted preset for my shooting games. Does very well with sound. You have chat vs game volume rocker. My friends have said they can hear me perfectly. If you crank these they are super loud. Too much for me. They have the feature where you can hear yourself but I wasn’t a fan of it so I turned it off. Some people might like that. Love when I turn the virtual surround sound on. Works great and for games like uncharted 4 where they have 3d sound it’s amazing. So far I have two of these and they are great. Only issue I have is if you have two going on the same network it sometimes gives an echo but rarely and it seems to be better now. Haven’t heard it in a long time. There are a lot of presets you can put on it. They don’t update that to often but every now and then one comes out. Like the new god of war sound profile. I would recommend buying these over the golds. I did have the golds and the sound isn’t as good. It only has one preset. And it would cut out from time to time. I would definitely recommend these. I actually have to buy a throes PS4 since online gaming pretty much is only one person at a time on it and we have three gamers in the family. So I will be shopping another set. Hope this review helped.

    Better than Gold

My daughter has the Gold set while I just got the Platinum. I was able to switch back and forth to compare. The platinum is a great improvement. Clear and crisp. Good rich bass. Noise cancelling and surround sound is also great. I also find it more comfortable than the gold.(even 8/12″ hat size head) I’ve worn it for 4 hours at a time and on one charge.I am happy with it because it is quite noticeably a better product. It won’t compete with BOSE or the like, but for under $200, they are pretty nice.

Premium Price for a Mediocre Product

Pros1. Comfortable headset.2. Surround sound and custom sound profiles are really fun.Cons:1. The USB dongle overheats after 1 hour of use and shuts down, only to reboot itself seconds later. This issue happens several times within 5 minutes.2. The wireless tech on the headset fails constantly. It gets disrupted by nearby Wi-Fi, causing the sound to cut off all the time. Conclusion:For over $100.00 I shouldn’t be heaving any issues with this product. It should work out of the box perfectly. Period. I value my money and I’ll be returning this product this week. What a waste of my time.

    Astro A50 vs PS4 Platinum

Going to compare the Astro A50 to the PS4 Platinum headset since the Astro A50 was my main gaming headset prior to purchasing the PS4 Platinum Headset–Sound Quality:Astro A50s have better sound quality. Not that the PS4 Platinum is bad, there’s not a massive difference in quality, but if you are an audiophile you will notice a difference.PS4 Platinum gives off a more exaggerated sound while the A50 sounds more natural. A50 has a better range in terms of audio quality (does well in low, mids and highs) as the Sony Platinum is good at mid to highs.PS4 Platinum has a better spacial awareness or where enemies and sound is coming from in game (especially with 3D audio*). So if you are a hardcore gamer and want a more functional headset (in terms of gameplay) compared to one that sounds better, the PS4 platinum is a better choice.*3D audio is only present in a few games at the moment and it spacial awareness is amazing. The spacial awareness still works on titles that do not support 3D audio, but not as pronounced as you cannot hear what’s above or below you. Both Astro A50 and PS4 Platinum you are able to hear what’s going on around you (not top/bottom with non-3d audio compatible games for Sony Plat) but Sony Platinum does a better job. Hope this headset catches on as i like to see more games with 3D audio.–Build:PS4 Platinum has a weaker build as I say most of the cost went into the technology. The PS4 platinum is able to fold up if you want to travel with it or put it in a compact storage space. In general the Astro A50s has a more sturdy build, but not as portable. Both are very comfortable to wear over extended periods of timeAstro A50 buttons are easier to press and is more user friendly especially with the analog scroll volume wheel . PS4 Platinum has most of the functions along the back side of the headset and most buttons have similar tactile feedback so it’s hard to get a grasp at it at times.–Visual aesthetic:Exception of the metal band on top the PS4 Platinum looks very blandA50 has a lot of going on especially with the spiral cords on the side of the headset–Compatibility:Right off the bat, if you want surround sound on the PS4 Platinum headset, it ONLY works on the PS4/PS4 Pro. If you want to use it on other devices it will only output stereo.Astro A50 surround sound can be outputted on other devices like PC and XboxOne (if you have the adapter)Both does not have bluetooth as they have their own receiver.Astro A50 uses a mix amp while the Sony Platinum uses a USB dongleWith the Astro A50 there’s more wiring as you have to connect it the PS4 via wired USB and an optical cable. PS4 Platinum just used a Wireless USB dongle, so you just plug and play instead of fiddling around with wires. If you want to use your headset to connect to a device with a 3mm jack, the PS4Platinum as a dedicated 3mm headphone port on the headset itself, but know that it only outputs stereo. Astro A50 on the other hand, have no wired 3mm option to the headset itself as you have to connect via the mix amp which needs to connect via USB power source, and 3mm audio cable coming out of the mix amp. Sony Platinum is more portable in this sense as if you want to bring the Astro A50 out in public you have to connect the mix amp via power bank and deal with two separate wiresBoth have custom software, but the PS4 Platinum is easily accessible via PS4 app if you play on the PS4. For the Astro A50 you have to set it up via PC then download the info to the headset before you can use a new custom preset. The PS4 Platinum headset app has custom setting for specific games that the developers put in that take advantage of the 3D audio. As of this review only 4 titles are available: Uncharted 4, Watch Dogs 2, Last Guardian, and MLB The Show 16–Mic Quality:Both are about the same. Astro A50 is slightly better, but if you don’t listen to them side-by-side and try to focus on the audio they’re generally the same. You can hear each other person well on the other end and vice versa. Astro A50s you have to pull down the mic so it’s in front of your face, but that’s generally not an issue. It’s easier to mute chat volume with Astro A50 as you just have to lift up the boom mic as i find that much faster than reaching back and hitting a dedicated mute button on the Sony Platinum–Battery Life:PS4 platinum has 2-3 times more battery than the Astro A50s depending on volume and chat settings–Summary:For the price I’d say the PS4 Platinum is a good value if you’re on a budget (only if you play it on the PS4 as the surround sound doesn’t work on any other devices) as the Astro A50 you’ll be paying $100+ more depending on where you purchase it. If you can shell out more I’d go for the A50 if you want a more immersive audio experience Astro A50 has better audio quality, but PS4 Platinum out preforms it in spacial awareness.Astro A50 has a better build, but if you don’t’ toss your headset in the corner of the room each time, both should last a long time. It’s easier to access buttons with the Astro A50s even if you build muscle memory on the PS4 Platinum as the locations and tactile feedback of the buttons on the Astro A50s are more intuitiveBattery life on the PS4 Platinum is way better.Personally I’m going to use both, now I can use the A50 as a PC only headset since before I have to keep moving the Mix Amp when I want to change console/systems.If you have any questions or find this review helpful leave a comment. Hope this helps you in your purchasing decision. Thank you.

    It’s alright. Doesn’t feel like a $159 headset.

Waited for months, tried for about 6 hours now. Here’s my take on the new PS4 Platinum headsets.Pros:-connection is solid (within 20 feet line of sight)-volume is loud, both game sound and chat-microphone appears to be clear. No complaints from other players yet.-setup was quick and effortless-good battery life. 6 hours on partial charge.Cons:-bass is really lacking. Even with the bass adjustment all the way up, the sound quality was mediocre.-no tension adjustment. It is a tad too tight for my big head.-volume adjustment is slow. If a troll comes along and starts blasting their mic, its quicker to rip off your headset.-USB dongle blinks when not connected to device. (may annoy you when not using the headset) Edit: it blinks for about 30 seconds and then stops blinking. If these were $100 headphones, I’d be a bit more forgiving. But to market these as the top of the line Platinum headsets, it makes me wonder why I spent the extra $80 over the Golds. It’s not THAT much better. As for connection issues, I have not experienced any. Walking 20 feet away is fine until you pass by a wall. Then it drops out completely. Upon re-entering the connection zone, it reconnects and no input is required from the user. Same thing when turning the unit on. Just turn on and it connects to the first remote that is connected. The USB dongle has a blue light that shines solid when connection is acquired. It blinks when no device is found. A little annoying when you don’t want to use the headset and leave the dongle in.The ear cups slide up and down on the band. The band itself doesn’t change length. This is the first headset that I owned with such mechanism.

    Better than the Gold headset.

They look awesome, I love the in-ear mic, and the sound quality is definitely better than the gold headset. The biggest item on my list coming from the gold headset is durability. Those stupid little plastic hinges broke even with careful use on TWO gold headsets. I figured it’d be cheaper in the long run to spend the money on the nicer headset. The durability is remarkable, these are much better built. HOWEVER, they are also remarkably uncomfortable. Whoever designed the headband tried it on for 30 seconds and decided they deserve a raise. It would be more comfortable to cut the headband off and rig up some bailing wire. If I were planning to buy these right now, I’d go into it with a plan for either padding or replacing the headband. I ended up buying the Steelseries Arctis 7 (great headband, go figure) after a few months and gifted these to my girlfriend who doesn’t use a headset as often as I do. Also, my Arctis 7 headset has MUCH better connectivity, it’ll work from anywhere in my apartment vs this headset which would cut occasionally at any distance and lose signal completely at about 15ft.

    Just incredibly disappointed!

I have the Turtle Beach PX4’s and I have to say that these sound worse than those. I don’t know how this headset is receiving so many rave reviews. There was a lot of excitement when I got them. The set up was incredibly easy (plug in the USB dongle, turn it on, play). Of course I adjusted the settings (had to change the audio that went to the headset as all audio and not chat audio only). The sound just was not as loud as the PX4’s, which was surprising. I always have my game volume down at about 60% on my PX4, yet the Platinum couldn’t get as loud as even that at full volume.I wish it was just that, but there’s more. When I initially set it up, there were periods where it would disconnect for about 10 seconds and try to re-pair with the PS4. This also happened a few times when I was on party chat, so I had to ask them to repeat what they said. I chalked that up to maybe getting broken in or there wasn’t enough power.. So I continued to try using it. The disconnecting was happening less frequently, but it was happening nonetheless. The PX4 has not disconnected once in the years that I’ve owned it. The only time it has was when it just completely lost power.Let’s say I could deal with the unimpressive audio (not just low, but worse in quality compared to the PX4) and the disconnecting. The worst feature is the microphone. People were complaining about how there was this hissing noise in the background. As soon as I switched to the PX4’s, the hissing sound was gone. It was just one too many faults for me to warrant keeping this headset despite the sale price of $126.I will be trying the Turtle Beach Elite 800, which I also might return, at which point I will be trying the Stealth 700. I just don’t think the microphone is as good if it’s not in front of your mouth. I want to be able to speak quietly when I want to and have people hear just my voice, and not everything else in the background because I have to turn the mic volume up.
