Zero issues using it in the USA!

I was nervous buying this item because I live in America and thought for sure I would miss out on some features like remote play being that this was a Japanese model. I wanted the white slim bad enough, I thought I would give it a shot. Fear not, I’ve used and tested every feature, and it all works seamlessly. It truly is region free. Updates worked perfectly, remote play is amazing, and all my digital games and purchases were recognized on the PSN store and were able to be downloaded. Setting up was a breeze too. Simply select your language right from the start, and the rest is easy and intuitive. The only knock, if you want to call it one, is Japan uses the (O) button as “Enter” and the (X) button as “Back, which it swapped in the US. Once the games load though, it’s back to normal. It will take you a second to get use to, but it’s hardly a gripe. If you’re looking for one of the colored slim models, feel relieved that the Japanese edition works perfect. I love my new toy, and being able to play my PS4 games using remote play is the best thing in the world. “Good night sweetie… hellooo Nathan Drake!”

    Perfect! 100% Recommend!

Your browser does not support HTML5 video.

Okay, I’m not gonna lie. I was a little bit sketched out buying this since Sony literally does not produce PS Vitas anymore. I also read in quite a few reviews that the packaging is in Chinese rather than Japanese. I’m not sure if I was just lucky, or if the other people who reviewed this just can’t read/differentiate Japanese from other languages, or if the seller realized their mistakes? But my PS Vita came in 100% Japanese packaging and system. It’s super easy to change the language setting if you don’t speak Japanese so don’t worry. It’s also not region locked or anything like that! I included a video of me just turning on the device and opening a game so anyone who’s interested can see that it’s perfectly fine. Of course, you will have to buy an additional SD card SPECIFIC to PS Vita if you want to download games/save data so keep that in mind. Idk there’s not much else to say! I play all day and the battery life is 10/10 haha. Definitely recommend this if you’re looking to purchase a vita :3

Even though it’s discontinued, definitely worth it.

I have read a TON of reviews and comments about the Playstation Vita 2000 Slim and most all of them preferred the 1000 Vita but to be honest, I’ve looked at them side by side and didn’t notice a big difference. And also, if you never really played on the 1000 Vita then this one won’t be noticeable at all so there is nothing to worry about. I actually also don’t think this has a cheap feel to it; it’s just lighter that’s all. I bought this one after buying a used 1000 and realized I rather spend a bit more money and buy a brand new on for the used one had way too much scratches.

    Brilliant!

Awesome. I did not own the original PS vita therefore I cannot talk about the difference between the LCD and OLED. However, I do have the PSP slim and the new PS vita slim is just amazing. The screen is brilliant, light and very thin. The battery performance is outstanding.Do not worry about the fact that this is a Japan import as it will ask you to set your own language on power up. The only thing that is provided in Japanese is the user’s manual which is not a big deal as you can get it in English from Sony’s website. The white colour is very cool as for me I do not like to see finger prints on my device.

Trading off to trim down the New Vita is a step in the right direction

I had the original Vita and I never really enjoyed playing it. The battery life was short and it felt uncomfortable, in my opinion, to hold. When I saw these Japanese Vitas on IGN it peaked my interest but I already had a Vita that I didn’t really like. After hearing reviews about the longer battery life, lighter and easier to hold new Vita I made the decision to trade my old Vita into Amazon and use the gift card for this one. I really like the white body color, over the black US version. Everything in the US is black and bland so that was my main decision for getting the Japanese version. There is one thing to note about the Japanese Vita, the X and O buttons are switched in function. So in the menu screen O opens an app and X backs out of an app. Once you open an app or game the button mapping is back to normal. Other than that the Vita is region free and there are no issues selecting English and running the US Playstation Store or US games.Comparing the new and old Vita I will say that yes the colors on the new Vita screen do not pop and are not as vibrant as the old Vita. The new Vita’s LCD screen still has the same resolution as the old Vita’s OLED, but it’s not as bright. I have no complaints because the LCD screen doesn’t consume as much battery life and doesn’t seem as over saturated and the OLED. The new Vita’s body is lighter due to its plastic shell and smaller size. But it is still very sturdy and well built. The new Vita feels more comfortable to hold and for me is more enjoyable to play. I’ve gotten as much as 3 more hours of battery life with the new Vita. It all varies depending on the game your playing. Games that push the Vita to its graphical limits use more power. While indie or older PS 1 games that don’t challenge the Vita’s CPU use less power. In closing I play this Vita more than the old one. In my opinion it was a step in the right direction making it a more comfortable and more enjoyable hand held to play with extra battery life to boot.

Slim Model charges via micro-usb compared to the fat model

As an owner of both the slim and the fat version of the Vita, I must say that despite having LCD screen rather than the OLED that the fat model sports, the slim overall feels much better. And playing games through it, I don’t really see a major difference other than vibrance of colors (which isn’t all that noteceable anyways) between the fat and the slim. The fat model felt rather clunky in the hands and had the matte finish where everyone’s fingers and more just splotched allover the screen. The slim does away with that and instead has a more plastic-y texture that’s easier to clean. It weighs a lot less, and feels much more form fitting, alongside retaining more charge as my fat model would eat up whatever charge it had within 3-4 hours (which of course can probably be prolonged depending on the brightness) while the slim feels as though it can go a bit longer and charge faster. And on the note of charging, the one major reason why I switched over to playing on the slim is that the slim model can charge off of micro-usb chargers (typically android phone chargers). This does not charge on the wonky, somewhat I-pad looking charger, so if anything goes wrong with the vita slim’s chargers, you can get any of your old phone chargers (android) lying about and just use those, rather than going through the hassle of finding the unique charger that is exclusive to the vita fat. The one thing about the vita is that it’s a somewhat costly console due to the rarity that increases every year, I’d hate to have my charger go out then go on the hunt for the vita charger. On top of that for newbies, if you’re sinking in $150-200 for your first vita, make sure you have an extra $100 lying around as Sony price gouges the memory cards. The extra one hundred can go into both the memory card (which I believe the most you should go for is the 32 gb, but 16 gb is the good middleman, 8 is if you’re really on the budget–Ignore 4gb) and games on the psn market. It’s almost blatantly obvious that Sony just takes money at the gate, as the physical releases for vita are a bit more niche than other consoles, as the vita market almost sits solely in the ps store. I say to ignore 4 gb, as having 4 gb for internal storage isn’t going to cut it considering most library’s for the vita are digital. I too wish for a more physical library, but hell they keep the games now in a locked box at my local game stop :I. Go fish.Anyways, this is my favorite handheld, I play it more than my 3ds, has a hell of a library despite being marked as a legacy console by Sony. It still retains all the psone classics that sony did for the psp and ps3, alongside sporting psp backwards compatability with whatever psp games are offered through the ps store. In that, it’s a weeb machine as well, most (new) games being jrpg’s and visual novels, with western releases primarily being indies. Either way, I feel if you’re interested in getting a vita, get it now (2018) before the plug is pulled considering that it’s only holding on in Japan at the moment. I can’t quite say if it’ll keep going in the coming years (despite it being one of my favorites), as with the Nintendo Switch release, it fulfilled what the vita already tried doing years ago unfortunately.

PlayStation Vita is Region FREE!! (Region free = import any game from any country)

Honestly there’s quite a few things I’m upset about this product with. But this is an amazing portable device but it just seriously needs work. The main reason why I decided on picking up a PlayStation Vita was because I was really looking forward to play my PS3 games when not at home (aka work or college) one thing I was instantly disappoint with was the fact I couldn’t get my PS3 to connect to my Vita right away. I had to go online to look for tutorials. Once I finally got the thing working, it was out of sync and very laggy. I was able to get working but when I attempted playing a PlayStation 3 game (Killzone 3 and Metal Gear Solid IV) were both titles I’ve tried and I got an error saying “this title is not compatible” upon further investigation online. I found out this can aparently only be done with a hacked vita (which if you attempt to hack it there’s a 50% chance of you bricking your device.) so don’t try it, its not worth it.The remote play was really my only issue, and also. this device only has 1Gigabyte (GB) of on board memory, so if you plan on going digital then do yourself a favor and pick up a memory card, (keep in mind there are no micro sd card adapters, I’ve done the research to see if there were and sadly there are no such thing for the vita) this is another $80 out of my pocket I wasn’t planning on spending. Although its nice to have additional memory, I think its ludicrus to spend an additional $80 on a 64GB PS vita card when I could have gotten a 64GB SD card for around $20.One last thing about the system, games are displayed in english. Although when you boot up the system for the first time you’ll need to scroll up when selecting your language. It will ask you what language you would like your system to be in upon activating the system. Also one confusing thing that took me a while to get use to personally was the (X) and (O) buttons are swapped with each other (since this is a japanese imported system) in japan its common for the (O) to be “yes” and the (X) to be no. But this only takes effect in the menus of the system, the game will still play normally just it takes a while to understand this switching between region games.

As the owner of the Playstation Vita Slim in two colorways, I couldn’t recommend this color more!

To anyone thinking about making this purchase or recreational gamers looking for portability in their hobby, look no further! The PS Vita will not disappoint.Definitely worth the import from Japan, worry not about regions and Wi-Fi capability: everything functions exactly as it’s supposed to. It took me less than 10 minutes to get set-up; when you initially open up the PS Vita, you’ll need to plug your device to power it up which takes about 5 minutes or less. I signed right onto my Playstation Network account and had no issues with connecting my device to my Wi-Fi which allowed me to immediately start purchasing games. There’s also an awesome cloud network that allows you to buy games from your laptop or computer and download them unto your device right from the Playstation Store. It’s a very sleek device which allows for long, comfortable game-play. If you’re anything like me and obsess over keeping your things clean, the glossiness of the screen allows for ease in cleaning up those sticky fingerprints. The LCD screen is hardly noticeable from the previous OLED screen PS Vita, the colors are definitely not as vibrant in depth but it doesn’t affect game play or minimize the experience at all!The best part the PS Vita Slim it is the new lightweight feel updated from it’s predecessor, it’s much more beautiful than the original PSP and holds it’s potential in aesthetics and capability. I absolutely love the PS Vita in white and would recommend anyone to get this import rather than settling for the standard black color, you’ll certainly enjoy it as much as I do.This device only has 1GB of integrated storage which isn’t enough for large games so I would recommend purchasing a 8GB or 16GB memory card which can be bought used on Amazon.com as I have. It’s MUCH cheaper than buying it brand new at retail price as they’re pretty expensive and they’re also very reusable: the previous owner wipes out his old memory leaving you room to download all your games on at a much lower cost than a brand new card. It’s relatively safe too as the Playstation Network doesn’t store personal account information on the memory cards, only the games you download from the Playstation Network and your game progress! Small tidbit for those looking to purchase this great console and use it to it’s fullest capabilities without breaking the bank in investing in accessories!
