Acer Predator Gaming X34 Pbmiphzx Curved 34″ UltraWide QHD Monitor with NVIDIA G-SYNC Technology (Display Port & HDMI Port),Black

This review is for Z35P bmiphz 35inch 3440x1440p Screen.Quick History. I love Gaming, fast refresh rates, Gsync and a quest for ultimate monitor has been my holy grail. That being said here is the list of screens I currently have and a bit of comparison.Acer XB280HK bprz 28 – First Gsync 4k Screen that I jumped on the Gsync wagon with. Used this for about 6 months had a few issues with screen just going black in full screen mode and just could not come to terms with TN panel and 60hz. Color shifts and washed out color got me to pass this down to my son.Acer Predator XB271HU bmiprz 27 – After doing tons of research I finally took a plunge on this bad boy and don’t get me wrong probably one of the best 27 inch monitors out there. Full IPS 2560x1440p, Gsync, 165hz Refresh rate. Personally, I had no issues with it. Used this for almost 2 years until my wife’s screen went out and opportunity presented itself.Acer Predator Z35P bmiphz 35inch – Now the main review of this monster and what compelled me to get this model. As well as pros and cons. Let’s look at it from the gamers point of view.Pros:-3440x1440p resolution? Check-As close to IPS as you can get with wide viewing angles? Check-Overclock able to 120Hz? Check-Gsync? Check-35 inches of curved beauty? CheckScreen arrived well packaged, no damage. Used a DP cable to hook it up to my 1080 at first when I turned it on had some light bleed in all 4 corners to be expected for VA panel. Desktop looked a bit washed out compared to IPS panel no biggie there. Googled “z35p color management profile” and there is a reddit thread with a nicely calibrated profile, after applying color profile and setting gamma to gaming mode the colors are as close to IPS as you can get. Turned on overclock and set refresh to 120hz under gaming section. Just to mention the built in speakers are decent enough to watch movies with the family. Nothing beats a good quality headset though. (currently one of my favorites for long term gaming Sennheiser 506080 GAME ONE)Cons:- light strobing in upper left and right corner. Not a deal breaker, but it’s there if you pay attention to it.- Bezel a little thick compared to modern screens. I don’t ever actually notice.- Not an IPS panel.- Some games don’t support 3440x1440p or you have to tinker with settings get them running properly.- Not really a con but getting used to 21:9 FOV in some titles can be different experience than 16:9All that being said it’s a solid screen. Gaming on it is a blast. Programming on it is fantastic.Other thoughts – The only way for me to go up from here is to Nvidia BFGD

What a sad day. This monitor, is absolutely amazing. The VA panel has great blacks, and doesn’t suffer from IPS glow. It also has all the great features I was looking for, and the curve is so good that normal monitors look odd now. Unfortunately, the awesomeness is limited by the extremely poor quality control Acer does on these things. To this day, it absolutely baffles me that these still have quality control issues. I just came from the ASUS PG279Q because I got tired of the IPS glow (this was the 4th PG279Q I owned due to many RMA’s), and wanted better blacks plus a curved screen. I thought maybe Acer was a little better at QC but I was wrong. They are just as bad as ASUS with their monitors.My first monitor had great brightness uniformity and practically no backlight bleed, but was riddled with other soul crushing issues. For one, the dang monitor itself had dust or debris located between the panels, resulting in about 6 black smudges that looked similar to dead pixels and dirt on the screen. This was just lazy construction right here, you need to build these in a dust free zone. I have never once seen this with a monitor, especially a high end one. The next issue was the color uniformity. The center is great, I got it calibrated to 6500K using a ColorMunki and it fared well. But move towards the right, and there is a GIANT yellow bloch ranging from the top to the bottom of the screen. See the picture for reference. On the left, we got a slight red tint and a much smaller yellow bloch. I do not know if this is normal for curved screens, but it’s unbearable! You can drag a window from side to side and watch it change color!!! I am all for understanding technological limits but that is just crazy! And yes, it’s very noticeable when gaming.Moving on to the replacement, this one was EVEN WORSE! I know right, surely it can’t get worse but it can. The replacement had even worse color uniformity, dust/debris, and even physical damage to the inside panel!!! That can only happen during construction, how that passed QA is beyond me. I didn’t even take pictures of that one before sending it back.I have given up on these and sent them back because I cannot accept paying around $600 for something that has more QC flaws than a cheaper budget monitor. So if you’re really wanting to have one of these, prepare to play the panel lottery and deal with a lot of RMA’s!

I bought the first X34 in 2016 for $1399. At the time it was the best gaming monitor out there, and it worked flawlessly for me for over 2 years. It hit 100hz, and worked every day without a hitch. No dead pixels, no light bleed. Fantastic. This is why I trust acer and bought yet another acer product. I played a lot of single player games like tomb raider, farcry, assassin’s creed, mass effect, GTA, too many to count. The experience was PHENOMENAL!!!!HOWEVER… I got back into shooter games like PUBG, COD, and Counterstrike… and 100hz just wasn’t cutting it. So I bought a BenQ ZOWIE XL2546. That is a fantastic monitor for what it does (240hz is sooooooo nice) but when I saw this new X34 was out and on sale (got mine for 899) I couldn’t help myself. I upgraded to this new one and WOW, what a shock. Puts the old version to shame and just what I needed to make the x34 an awesome ALL-AROUND monitor that shines in literally every game I play on it.The curve is more extreme than the old X34 (which I hated at first and now love too much for words) and the extra 20hz refresh rate really makes all the difference. Now I’m playing CS:GO, PUBG, and COD on the x34 (something I didn’t like to do before because 100hz was too jittery) and the action feels nice and smooth. I’m back winning games of PUBG with 10+ kills and boy does this monitor look as good as it feels while I’m doing it. The detail and immersion is unlike anything else on the market. If you have a powerful gaming PC and haven’t experienced ultrawide QHD gaming yet, BUY THIS. You will not regret it.I know the X35 is coming (the new 200hz version of this) but A) It’s not IPS B) there is no release date and they teased it over 18 months ago and there is still no update C) It’s going to be $1500+ D) Realistically I don’t think any computer out there will be able to push much above 120fps at 3440×1440 in most games for quite a while. I currently have an 8086k and a watercooled 1080ti and barely reach 120fps in most modern titles with the graphics on medium-high at this resolution (save Counterstrike, which I get 300fps easy). I have a 2080ti on the way so that will give me a boost but honestly, for half the price of the upcoming x35 I feel like this monitor is a steal. 120hz is enough to be competitive in my opinion. 240 is nice, but 120 cuts it just fine.So in a year or two, I’ll upgrade graphics cards again to something that can actually run 3440×1440 at 200 FPS, and then I’ll buy the x35 once the price has dropped down below $1k. Until then though, this monitor is too good to put into words. Believe me guys, you really just can’t believe it until you see it. This thing will (literally) open your eyes to a whole new world of gaming goodness that you didn’t even know existed.BUY BUY BUY

This monitor would’ve been a 4 star but due to me receiving two bad monitors I’ve given it 1 star for poor quality control.There is slight back light bleed so if that bothers you be aware before purchasing this monitor. Great resolution and excellent refresh rates with over clocking 120hz. G sync makes such a big different and good viewing angles. Heavy duty base with good adjustment on the stand. Wish I would’ve got a good one but returning these have already frustrated me enough.

Once you have experience games in ultra wide screen, you can’t go back.I went from a 144hz TN panel to a 120hz VA panel (this one) and I have used many IPS and OLED devices. If you are concerned with VA panels being subpar compared to that of IPS, well at least with this one, you won’t be able to tell the difference. OLED still beats it at color quality, but OLED panels make this beast look cheap, and typically don’t offer the refresh rate or response time that VA has.WARNING:Get a VESA MOUNT or GET A BIG DESK. This monster will eat up a lot of desk space to support its size. The pre-installed stand is actually amazing. All metal with swivel, height and tilt, and because all the gamer-y stuff that people are getting a little tired of is well hidden. This should be common sense to anyone who is looking at a wide screen monitor, but it is still worth noting.The speakers that are built in are surprisingly good, but not good enough for a descent set of desktop speakers. Consider them as an added bonus.I cannot recommend this monitor enough.However there are a few issues.1. The power port and video ports are annoying to get to. This is normally a 1 time annoyance, but an annoyance none the less.2. Can no one make an easy to navigate monitor menu? Calibrating this thing like most monitors is highly frustrating because of the 6 poorly labelled buttons on the bottom right side. I know this is industry standard, but you think that if you are spending this amount of money that Acer would consider the user experience in all aspects.If you are in the market for a gaming or video production ultra wide monitor STOP this is a great pick. AMD Users, look for one with Freesync.I cannot go back to 16:9 any more.
