    Spectacular!

Coming from a guy who had the Astros A50 first gen (loved them) since they came out and about a week ago decided to crap out (lasted me about 5 years), these are 20 times better and lighter the the previous gens. Easy to set up and decent battery life. If you have the money, just get these. Stop looking anywhere else.

Only good for the PC…PS4 has issues

The look and feel are nice, but that’s when it ends. There’s a mess of issues for the PS4. The sound is all over the place; the chat is super loud and no matter if you’re using the Dolby or default, it sounds like your game is in a tin can. Even if you update the firmware or adjust the chat/game balance on the ear controls, it still is unbearable. It worked had sound for 5 hours after the update, then reverted back to the super loud chat/tin-can sound. I had to return and went back to my Astro A4o’s.

The best headset Astro has ever made.

I got these on sale during Black Friday, and I love them. The A50 Gen 4 is surprisingly even more comfortable the Gen 3, due the ear cushions being a touch softer, almost plush, and the headband being a much better, rectangular shape, closer to that of the A40 TR. The “Astro Audio V2” refers to the updated drivers, which much like the A40 TR Gen 4, have a more balanced overall sound, while still having excellent bass and sound stage. This means you will not only locate enemies and gunfire more easily, but the sound is so much more detailed that you will even be able to tell one gun’s sound from another. This also makes them much better for media consumption as well gaming. The microphone is as good if not clearer than the Astro A10. It’s larger and therefore able to pick up more of your voice, yet still manages to stay out of your peripheral vision most of the time. All of the great features from the Astro A50 Gen 3 return, including an accelerometer for automatic standby, a flip to mute microphone, and the Base Station which both transmits audio and charges the headset. Firstly you can take the headset off while it’s turned off, lay it flat, and it will shut off after about 15 seconds to save battery. Pick it back up, and it immediately turns back on. The flip to mute microphone is self explanatory, but also brilliant, because all you have to do is the flip the microphone up to mute it, and down to unmute. The new Base Station is much smaller, while being slightly deeper than previous model. This results in a better fit when docking the headset to charge. An optional leather mod kit is sold separately as well. The headset can also be folded flat, which is nice if you like to wear them on your shoulders.Overall, this headset takes everything great about the A50 Gen 3, and just improves upon it. Well worth the full $300 price tag.

    Another fantastic product from Astro

Long time fan of the Astro headsets, and this one is certainly my favorite so far.I had issues with the previous version of the A50 headset, as i believe many did. The headset just didn’t sit on the cradle without a bit of tweaking and patience most days. I eventually gave up and started pluggin it in to charge. That was my only complaint however, as the sound and comfort were top notch.I picked up the new version as it made sense to have an extra for my PC and leave the other hooked up to my xbox. Man do i love the new one. Smaller footprint, beautiful sound, a bit sleeker design, and the cradle is kicking butt. Thanks guys, STRONG recommendation.

    It’s worthy!

Just like Cap in End Game (SPOILERS?), the updated A50 headset is worth of the cost. My puppy recently decided to try out my old A40 TR headset and forced my hand (corgis aren’t as innocent as they seem!). So begrudingly I spent the $300 after reading plenty of reviews on the revised A50 headset and I can honestly say I’m glad I did. For one, upgrading to a wireless headset is so convenient. Example: last night I had Spiderverse playing on my second monitor while I worked on the other and I was able to walk into the kitchen for a drink without having to pause the movie. On top of that, having a headset mount without cables is such a space saver which leads to a cleaner, sleeker desktop space. As for gaming, the sound is crystal clear, the mic works exactly as advertised and it fits comfortably for long periods of time. If this isn’t in your budget, no shame there. However, if you can afford this headset, you won’t regret it.

best in class positional audio, great sound/battery/range. Not for audiophiles.

TLDR: If you’re looking for a headset that seeks above all else to give you an edge in gaming with positional audio, and still delivers superb sound, this is your open back headset. If you want an audiophile experience, you need to look elsewhere. If you’re looking for a minimal price point for top positional accuracy, this is your headset.*Comparison is drawn mostly to Sennheiser, Corsair, and Steelseries headsets. Among gaming headsets, until this headset, Sennheiser had the best positional accuracy, Steelseries likely still has the best audio, Sennheiser however still has the best mic and comfort with the worst software. None have actual audiophile level components, though some get close.IntroIn the world of high end gaming headsets, the high rated typically fall into 1 of 2 categories. Better sound (attempted audiophile) quality with gaming features, or a gaming focused headset with higher end audio. Either sacrifice on the later, if you’re looking for audiophile tech I would recommend going with a trusted headset, stand alone mic, and a DAC assuming your computer needs one (This is one situation where you likely do). This is a gaming headset that focuses on giving the best gaming experience largely accomplished through positional audio that is second to none. Even review websites that don’t rate this headset in the top three, still mention its phenomenal positional accuracy.Pros+Positional audio second to none. This is the headset that sets the bar for staging. Because it’s not audiophile level quality, it is not AS immersive but you will place footsteps and gun shots noticeably easier. This is the main reason to purchase this headset.+Charging doc. This is frankly a nice and once experienced possibly must have feature with any headset, done well it makes it feel like you aren’t charging your headset but just putting it down where it goes. The front screen shows what profile EQ you’re on and if the digital surround sound is on or off.*Important Note about digital surround sound, if you game offers it (like Overwatch) do NOT use additional 7.1 emulation. It is NOTICEABLY worse, missing out on ques from the Y axis (up and down) with a full 360 field of audio information. Set everything to off, and stereo, with the sole exception of your games surround sound. This is when having a high end audiophile level headset with supporting DAC will give you a better experience.+Comfort. Wireless headsets are heavier than their wired brethren, this is the case here as well. However, quality design and padding has made this a comfortable enough headset to keep up with it’s extended battery life. It is not the most comfortable headset I’ve worn, not by far. But it’s not uncomfortable either and for a wireless gaming headset, that’s a plus.+15 hour battery is above average, it’s not a 100 hour battery but for drivers this size which are the main battery drain, that’s a great feature. Coupled with the doc, you’ll likely feel like you don’t have to charge them (assuming you line them up correctly which is tricky).+Ear and head pads have (available for purchase) a mod kit for noise isolation. It’s reported to not be perfect however, so if total silence is your goal, you may need a different headset. They are more comfortable, but also mess with the sound staging so if positional accuracy is your goal, keep with the open back option.+Fantastic quality (for a headset) mic, tested in discord, Overwatch, and a few other games with friends and it is among the top ones my friends liked. The noise cancelling is quite good too, it is not as good as Senheiser’s goto mic, and it feel cheap compared directly.+Wireless, Go afk and no if the que pops or someone messages you. The freedom can be felt when sitting at your desk as well, as long wires have a small but noticeable amount of weight on one side of the headset. The range is fantastic! I can go down the hall, up the stairs, and passed the garage before I get interference. I even took out the trash last Thursday while my que popped and didn’t miss a beat.+For a gaming focused headset, the sound is great. It’s not audiophile tech but movies, tv shows, and music sound quite good here. There is no noticeable distortion and while the bass isn’t the main focus of the headset, you won’t need to switch headphones to enjoy most of your experiences.+Open headset for more spacious sounds that deliver a deeper audio position. Talking with people around you is as comfortable as when you’re not wearing the headset, further adding to the wireless freedom. The sounds do not transfer to the mic when tested.Cons-Does NOT play while charging. With a 15 (at least 10) hour charge and a charging station this won’t normally be a problem unless you forget to charge it or it doesn’t connect over night. It is however a risk.-Docking the headset is finicky. Compared with other wireless headsets that just hang into place this is a problem each time you set them down to charge. That said, it’s a minor annoyance and the battery indicator shows when you’ve gotten it right.-Does NOT blue tooth to your phone. If you do not want that feature however, this is a plus because it would just weigh/cost more.-Crossplay on multiple platforms is limited to 1 console, and can be slightly clunky though easy to get used to.-Lacking the quality/standards to be considered audiophile tech, non competitive games, music, and movies can do better with other headsets. Some games can do better as well.SummaryAt the risk of becoming a become record, among gaming headsets, this is your best bet for a gaming headset, as the positional accuracy is second to none and the sound quality is very very good. It is not the best of every world and if you have a lot of cash to burn you can do better with a non gaming headset.

    Returned, Here is why.

I received this headset and was able to try it for a couple days before returning it for a refund. I will start off by saying I did about a week worth of research comparing Turtle Beach, Steelseries Arctis Pro Wireless, PlayStation Gold and Platinum headsets. I have owned Turtle Beach Elite 800 since about 2016. They are amazing with the built in mic. The problem I started having about the year 2 mark of owning them were they would lose audio and then come back on 5 seconds later. Then they started outputting a screeching sound. Call of Duty for instance, all of the sounds the game has, they would be outputted into the cups with screeching added to them. It was terrible. Factory reset didn’t do anything. After that going on randomly for a couple more years I figured I would look at another set of headsets. I finally decided on the Astro A50 Gen 4 as they are just like the Elite 800s in the fact they have a magnetic base to charge the headset. They were more expensive then what I originally bought the Elite 800s for and come with a boom mic instead of built in.Within the 2 days of owning the Astro A50s I had them power off then back on for no reason. I could see the base lights go off as well. Then the headset would boot back on within seconds. This happened twice to me. The first time I figured it was just a glitch but then second time reminded me so much of why I grew to dislike my Elite 800s. Also it is as if the sound reset from what I had it dialed in to? So it would start a match and it would be amplified so loud and I would have to remix it. I also cannot stand the fact since I was so used to them on the Elite 800s but the game/chat mix on the Astro A50s is super annoying. The Elite 800s have chat volume on the left earcup and the game volume is on the right earcup. Completely separate. You don’t get that on the A50s…If you want your game volume to be higher you click twice? and hold the right button on the right earcup. You will hear two beeps. You then take the volume dial and put it at what game volume you like. Then for chat you do the same thing but you click the back side of the earcup on the right ear. Then dial it in. After that you may not have it right and have to do everything over again. Better yet you could finally dial it all in and then a new game is started with different sounds mixed from the studio and you have to RESTART your settings all over again. Clicking and clacking. SUPER ANNOYING. Turtle Beach got it right by making the two volume controls (for game and chat) completely independent from one another. Astro did it in such a weird way and its terrible.Structure/Design:The headset and Base look awesome out of the box. The headset felt a bit on the cheaper side/lightweight. I will say though the cloth earcup coverings were nice though if you have facial hair it might get quite itchy. (They do have a overpriced leather “mod” that you can use for leather earcups. Absolutely ridiculous price tag for those –price gouging for sure)Sound:The sound was great for footsteps. I noticed it lacked bass but that is just the same as everyone else has said. Other than that the sounds were clear and crisp. I don’t know why but they sounded so much more different than the Turtle Beach Elite 800s. That is good and bad. I did favor the Elite 800s sound though, It could be because I am biased as I have owned them for 4 years.Verdict: With the quality of the headset, the controls, and price I completely regretted buying it and am glad I could return the headset. This headset is not worth the $300 price tag what so ever and this is coming from someone who has spent a lot of money on high priced things. This is one of my very few buying regrets. I personally would choose the Elite 800s even if the Astros were given to me for free. With that being said, I have another PS4 and have since went with the PlayStation Platinums for $115 and they have a built in mic with independent game/chat mixing for more than half the price. I will see how they stack up.

Decent, but not worth upgrade from Gen 2-3 A40TRs

The audio is so quiet on max volume on ps4. t’s nice that they’re wireless, and the spacial awareness is kinda better but the sound is still too overly metallic and annoyingly quiet.
