Easy To Use, Easy To Capture

I write this from the perspective of someone completely new to video game capture (which isn’t much different from regular video capture). I was recommended the HD60 S model by a lot of gamers online, so my choice was easily made for me.— DIFFERENCES —The main difference between the HD60 and HD60 S is that the S has the lowest delay between the game on your TV and the preview on your computer. I also got it because it records at one resolution setting of your choice while the HD60 can steam at one resolution while recording at another. The HD60 S also comes with a USB-C to USB cable versus a USB to USB cable.— SETUP —Setup was easy and intuitive. It comes with two cables: one HDMI and one USB-C to USB cable. It’s pretty self-explanatory as to what cable goes where. Plug an HDMI cable from your game console to the capture device, then plug another HDMI cable from the capture device to your TV, then plug the USB-C cable from your capture device to your computer. Go online and find the software to install (the link is mentioned in the box) and you’re done. After the software is installed, research online which settings are best for your video game system, or, if you know what you’re doing you can choose exactly what you want. If you plan on editing this, the usual route is to record at a high setting (1080p) and reduce down to what you need. At least that’s what I do. From there, you can organize your raw video files and edit using your preferred editing software.— SUMMARY —Video capture has come a looong way since I started doing it years ago with FireWire (what a headache that was). This device is the distillation of simplicity and usability. Anyone can easily understand and use this device. Recommended.

Great for Recording Gameplay, but with One Discrepency

I have used this for several months now. It does a fantastic job of recording my gameplay from my PS4. 1080p with super clear audio.Only problem has been trying to include game audio, party chat audio, and my voice all on Elgato. There is a known problem with some weird Elgato limitations when recording all this audio when using a Blue Yeti. Basically, my audio would sound distorted in the recording, which I found distracting and annoying. This was caused because I wanted to still be able to control my friend’s volume seperately from game audio. For some reason, the chat audio is blaring and I always have to turn down the overall volume on the game, which sucked because it was a stealth game and I was not able to hear my enemies. After hours of looking through YouTube and forums on the problem, I wasn’t able to find a solution. Here was my solution:1. Get a mixamp that allowed me to control game volume from chat volume. (I know there is a setting in the party chat to either focus game volume or party chat, but the setting don’t go far enough to be effective.)2. Set game video and audio to be recorder through HDMI, while chat audio is recorded through the MixAmp audio out port.(I had to get a special Elgato audio out splitter that they produced for this scenario since so many people complained.)3. Recorded my voice separately on my Blue Yeti through OBS.With this setup, I was able to record the game video/audio, party chat, my voice, and be able to control the game audio and party audio seperately as it went into my headset.Drawbacks:1. I had to speak into two mics. One was my headset so my team could hear me and the other was my Yeti so OBS could record it.2. When compiling the video, I would have to match up the PS4 game audio/video with my voice as seperate tracks. It was not hard, plus it gave me the ability to turn up my voice or the game audio independetly if one or the other was too loud. It was just a good two weeks of research, buying, and setup. So, in all, great technology that just has a weird hiccup with Yeti devices.

Using HD60s with imac as a display for game console

I am a user from Hong Kong. Before i bought this product, i watch a lot of videos on youtube and read a lot of user comments on the internet. The only thing i concern about is the latency problem, because i use this product not only to record my gameplay but also use it as a real-time display to my iMac (yes, because i don’t have an extra monitor and TV to play my game console, i hope this capture card can do both). After i received it and used it, this capture card is beyond my expectation! The latency is not noticeable at all, i can smoothly play video games via my iMac in 1080p. I will also use the record and live function to share my gameplay. I highly recommend this product to everyone!

Approach only if you absolutely have to. Disclaimer: You rarely have to..

I’ve had this thing for over a year, and still struggle using it.It creates an immense delay when it’s plugged in, like when the PC powers on, the screen takes longer than usual to show signal. The colors look oddly different, and even when turning off the HDMI color range from their software, the screen with the card on it, looks different, washed out, compared to another identical screen, that’s not connected to the card. The fact that it cannot pass through signal without the software being installed, that was a big bummer for me. I hated dealing with it so much. You have to install the hideous software first, and then connect screens to the card. The other fact that it cannot pass through 144Hz signal, another huge bummer, I mean, ok, I don’t want to capture footage at 144Hz, but at least let me have an option to use the card as a plain pass through. All of the above, are the reasons to take away 1.5 stars. The other 0.5 star, goes for the software. I don’t wanna even start on that. It is so bad, I’ve had literally my worst times ever using that software. Hated it so much. OBS IMO, is miles better and more comfortable to use. Way less bugs.

Works perfectly for using an iMac as a monitor for PS4/XBox!

I bought this so that I could use my 2018 27″ iMac as a monitor for my PS4. It works brilliantly! I run their Game Capture HD software in full screen with the controller connected to my PS4 and there’s no lag at all – crisp, smooth graphics and no sound issues.Worth mentioning! I almost returned this – you MUST disable HDCP mode on your PS4 for this to work, otherwise you’ll get a black screen and stuttering sound in the software. Once HDCP is disabled it works like a charm.

    Perfect for Content Creators!!

Your browser does not support HTML5 video.

The Elgato HD60 Pro is awesome if you want to stream/record High-Quality stuff at 1080p 60 FPS with 60 Mbps Bitrate. It’s great for Content Creators because I can have it record my screen so if I want to make a tutorial video on my PC, I can do that and record at a really good quality instead of just using a screen recording software. I can of course record/stream gameplay and with the Elgato software, I am able to add my microphone, stream overlay, and webcam to it and export the file as one or individual like the audio alone, gameplay alone, stream overlay alone so I can edit it however way I want. There so much you can use the HD 60 Pro if you are a Content Creator

Oh sure, it captures games, but…

Alright. I bought an HD60 S a good year or so ago, because it was, from what I could tell, the best capture card that worked with laptops. And you know what! It did capture games alright, after I bought a USB-C to USB-C cable out of pocket because it didn’t work with the specifically 3.0 USB-A ports of my laptop, even though it was supposed to. But capturing voice audio? Nope. Gotta buy a whole mess of other stuff if you plan to do that while streaming. But I figured, “Okay, well, I guess I can’t stream, but once I get more free time I might be able to start doing Let’s Plays I guess?”Haha. That’s cute, past me. It’s a shame you didn’t know about the part where Elgato Sound Capture would eat your speakers. The speakers on my laptop, the headphones I plug in, all of it. They were overridden by the janky Elgato Sound Capture program that this thing uses. Not just that the laptop always defaulted to it, whether the device was plugged in or not. If that was the case, uninstalling it should have worked. And so I did! But it didn’t help. In fact, I’m still getting popups about how Elgato Sound Capture, WHICH I UNINSTALLED, cannot find the drivers it uses. The built in audio devices on my laptop are no longer being detected. My headphones are no longer being detected. They aren’t listed on my laptop’s sound devices. I can’t even update the drivers through settings any more because these normal audio devices, for all intents and purposes, no longer exist. I don’t know whether or not they’ll ever exist again.I am currently manually updating my computer and reinstalling the drivers in an attempt to get my audio working again. I don’t expect much luck, and frankly, I wouldn’t be surprised if it came down to it that I have to spend tonight backing up my files on an external hard drive and hoping that a factory reset will fix these issues.Maybe I just have rotten luck. Maybe my laptop is just incompatible with this software. But you can be damn sure that if I ever attempt to stream games or do videos requiring a capture card in the future, I’d sooner drop hundreds to thousands of dollars to buy or build a pc so I can use another company’s built-in ones than deal with this again.

If you want the best of the best, buy this! BUT PLEASE DO RESEARCH!

BEFORE YOU BUY!First, make sure you have all 3.0 USB on your connections and on your computer. If you don’t have that, you gonna run into the same issue that everyone else is running into, no signal. You will get frustrated and in the end it’s a simple fix.Second, if you’re a streamer, please do no set the recording to be recording at all times, that will make your stream lag. specially if you have a slow connection. Frames will be lost and you will become upset.Third and lastly, if you just download the program on the website, make sure that you are downloading the right version. DO NOT download the windows 10 version if you have windows 7, it will not work. Same for all the mac users, please do your research before buying something like this. It is not cheap just to be throwing money at things just to keep them collecting dust.I hope this helps someone out there.I got one and I enjoy the products that they sell. I never had any issues and everything runs just fine.Rule of thumb: If you can’t figure out what’s wrong with it, search on the internet, someone most likely is running into the same problem as you are. Google is your best friend people! USE IT!

    Doesn’t Work – Buyer Beware

Despite all the negative reviews I saw for this device, I was somehow convinced to give it a shot. I was super excited to start using this for my Xbox one X without the need for a PC. However, the actual recording functionality doesn’t work. Nor am I getting ANY lights that tell me the device is on like it’s supposed to. Which is bizarre and super frustrating. Passthrough onto the tv is fine (even though its NOT outputting it’s advertised HDR on my HDR TV). But whatever. I’ve tried EVERYTHING to get it to work, read every article online, watched every video, and even let it sit for hours plugged in to see if I would miraculously get an LED status indicator. But nothing. I even reached out to customer service for some kind of help troubleshooting and haven’t gotten a response DAYS later. Funny enough, you should be able to just plug and play. I’m putting this out as a warning to Other potential buyers. I payed over $400 for this device Brand new and it doesn’t work. Returning mine right away and will be hesitant to buy another Elgato product.

Probably, maybe, just a 1080p device

I use multiple different capture cards. Amateur to pro. I have come to the conclusion the the Elgato 4K60 Pro MK.2 is only a 1080p device. It does capture HDR and BT2020 colorspace. However I have two reason for thinking this:1) First and foremost the captures of 4K material is very “soft” compared to other cards. At first I thought this was just me but now I’m more sure. The Avermedia GC573 captures a much sharper 4K signal with seeming higher res. However eyes can be deceiving…2) But if you tro ro use this card in OBS Studio, the program’s preferences report that the card is alternately a 1080p or 625p PAL capture device. Its specs in OBS studio report 4K but the default res seems to be 1080p and this seems to be the “information” that the card is able to capture. All other 4K cards I own, including GC 573, all report 2160p in OBS.3) Also one will note the card maxes at ~50 Mbps e.g. at 2160p24. The AverMedia can capture level 6 HEVC at 100 Mbps plus at this resolution. That also could contribute to perceived visual softness in Elgato captures. So beware of that. I am not sure Elgato is straight shooting with this product?
