    This game is awesome

I love this game. I don’t play video games as often as I used to but I came across this one and felt like I would like it for some reason. It is very much like GTA or RDR or even Skyrim in that you can just roam around exploring or you can actually follow a story line while you upgrade your characters abilities and weaponry. I actually just finished the game the other night and plan on running it back again soon. It’s a good story to follow, and while I don’t like to play on super difficult setting because I just end up getting angry, the “replayability” is pretty high if you’re into that sort of thing

    Fantastic Game

Absolutely love it. The story is good. Side content loaded and fun. Graphics… amazing. Combat, fun and addictive. If you enjoy single player, open world, story mode experiences in gaming you HAVE to play this. I was skeptical. But did not take long to sell me. Assassins Creed fans have been asking for a feudal Japan version for years. Never mind, Ubisoft. Not necessary. Topping this one would be a real chore.

A bit clunky, but overall a decent game

I just finished Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and was spoiled on the rather good mechanics of the game. Kassandra can climb anywhere and go practically anywhere on foot. Not so in this game. If you find yourself in combat and you are in a river bed or elevated rocky area, be prepared to be frustrated. Freedom of movement is severely limited in some areas. Combat is a bit clunky/awkward too.I’ll give it a go, but Assassin’s Creed Odyssey clearly has the better overall mechanics.

Rough sledding for those who aren’t good at video games

I bought this after a metric ton of recommendations and reviews and videos but man I was not prepared for how rough the sledding is at the start. I am not very good at these timing and combo games. I often default to button mashing and you can’t do that even on the easiest of settings with this game. From what I hear it gets easier the more you unlock things but I am really struggling. As of now I play in half hour chunks, because if I’m not turning it off in frustration, I’m turning it off in boredom. I just can’t going with this game. Another thing I just don’t like the wind navigation thing. I’m constantly checking the map and wishing there was a mini map option. I get the whole immersion thing, but I was finding it tedious pretty quickly. And it’s 2020 why not have the option? It will take me time, but I will at least beat this game, I just wish it wasn’t such a rough start for me. I should have known that you can’t just set it to easy and enjoy the the story, but I missed that part.

Amazing game, better than I expected.

First things first, I’ve got to say that I purchased this video game based on word of mouth and recommendations by online gaming personalities that I trust. I hadn’t really heard much about the game until it came out. I bought it on Amazon when it had a 3 week estimated wait time until it would be in stock. Thankfully I didn’t have to wait that long and the game was at my door within a few days of ordering it.I’ve now been playing it for a couple of weeks and am loving every bit of it. It reminds me of an Assassin’s Creed or Far Cry game but set in Fuedal Japan. Many people have hoped for an Assassin’s Creed game set in Japan during that time period, but I think this game is better than any AC game. The game consists of a great story of a samurai attempting to repel a Mongol invasion. This is played out through a variety of missions spread across a large open world of the island of Tsushima. There are the usual quests to find items, climbing and platforming to isolated shrines, retaking bases and liberating farms. You don’t have to travel far on the map to find something else to experience.Combat plays a huge part of the game and there are frequent battles spread around the world as you retake bases or come across Mongol patrols & bandit ambushes. The combat is slick and challenging, but does a good job of letting the player feel powerful as you level up and gain new abilities. You would probably have a hard time simply button mashing your way through the fights, but I find it quite satisfying and challenging to patiently wait to perfectly time a block that then leads to a one hit kill on your opponent. You unlock multiple combat “stances” that are more effective against different types of enemy weapons, and can easily switch through them as you cut & slash through a group of enemies. The combat is varied and challenging enough that I’ve yet to grow tired of it.The game is also beautiful. The island has a variety of landscapes, from beaches and mountains to grasslands and fields of flowers. All look amazing, and I don’t grow tired of traversing the world. The game is also very cinematic. The set up to many fights is what the game calls a standoff, where your samurai meets and faces off against the enemy like in an old samurai movie or western duel. These moments are great for fans of those movies and similar cinematic set ups are found throughout the main story and side quests. Overall the game looks better than most any other I’ve played.I’ve only made it into the second of 3 acts in the game, even though I’ve put 30 or more hours into it. I’ve still got a ways to go before I finish and I’ve heard from some sources that ,if you play as a completionist like I do, then you can spend 90-100 hours on the game. Either way you play, be it a quick run through the main story or a slow complete play-through, I think you will be very pleased by this game. Pick it up and immerse yourself in the story and world.

Best Game I’ve Played In Years

TLDR: — amazing in every way – you should get it. And if dueling gets hard, try running more!Good: — Game play was top notch. The duel system took me a few fights to build a winning strategy. And the challenge system was innovate and cool. Later in the game i was too slow for the ronin, but you don’t have to call them out. — Story was amazing. Won’t spoil here, but it was so good it even prompted me to look up some IRL history. — Character development was unlike any other game I’ve played. He had to choose honor or country. Having to pick only one drove development, multiple story arcs, and inner turmoil. Absolutely top notch! — Graphics are usually least important to me, but in this case, they were so realistic that it allows you to immerse better than any other non-VR game. Gorgeous scenery. — Failure isn’t a buzz kill. Getting bested in battle or any other foul thing to happen to you doesn’t come at a fun-eroding cost. The game resets quickly and continues so you can get on with the fun.Bad: — While I wanted to stick with the honorable fighting style of a Samurai, the story required me to break that code over and over as part of the story. I’d have liked the option to do it one way, even if that decision increased my struggle.

    Pure Bliss

My wife ordered this for me originally as a Christmas present. However her knowing how patient I’ve been she relented and gave it to me early. Now with that out of the way, let’s get to the review.First off it shipped very early. Talk about being prompt! It was shipped flawlessly. Not a single imperfection on the case, game, or the cover art.The game itself… Oh. My. Goodness. This game is absolutely stunning. I’m playing on a PlayStation 4 Slim, and still!!!!! The overall presentation is through the roof! The combat feels very weighty. And not in a bad way. You can FEEL the sword slashes with each strike! The controls are very well done. The camera like to be in an odd spot here and there; but hey. It happens. The story thus far (for me) is really compelling! I won’t go into spoiler territory; so I’ll just simply say for me it’s pretty compelling. The world you inhabit is absolutely jaw dropping! Each are you explore has a different feel to it. Really helps with the immersion factor. Speaking of immersion. The HUD is VERY bare bones; and I couldn’t be happier! You don’t have all the tropes that most games have. No compass. No mini maps. No waypoints. Heck! Even the health bar only shows up when in combat. The guiding wind mechanic has to be my all time favorite. I really wish more devs had the same mindset.Now. I will be honest. You will probably die a number of times. But it’s not without purpose. Why will you die? These Mongolians can be pretty viscous. But you’re even more dangerous. If you take your time with the combat. Master the art of parrying and dodging, you should be just fine.Now. Some people will probably complain about there not being a lock on option. However, this really isn’t an issue if practice enough with the combatAll in all I cannot simply recommend this game enough.Side note: the lack of no lock on while in combat makes combat more tense. You do miss it at first; but once you start getting used to the way the game plays you start asking why you missed it in the first place.

    Samurai Open World

First impression is that it’s like a fusion between ‘Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice’ without the harsh difficulty + better story, and open world Ubisoft games (Assassins Creed, Far Cry, Watch Dogs), but as you play more you find out that the game moves the open world genre forward through it’s presentation and gameplay mechanics.Over arching story is better than Sekiro in my opinion as it’s more grounded in reality. Flow is really good without having to retry multiple times/deep learning curves makes for a smoother story telling experience. Story lean toward historical accuracy and samurai films than mythical/spiritual themesAs an open world game, one of the best in terms of exploration, doesn’t’ string you along by pointing you where to go like most open world games-Story/Plot:The mongols take over Tsushima Island lead by Khotun Khan. You (Jin) have to retake territory and defeat Khotun Khan. Jin was a honorable samurai pre invasion facing enemies head on. Being outnumbered by powerful enemies, he must adapt and do cheap tactics like stealth and ambushes. You see Jin’s inner conflict when he has conversations with other characters as he becomes samurai batma…the Ghost of Tsushima-PresentationGraphics is really good for an open world game. One of the best looking games on the PS4. Foliage, falling leaves, and fog are especially noticeable. Draw distance is really good, no pop in. Something is always going on in the environment whether it’s leaves falling, flowers/grass blowing in the wind or fire embers floating in the air.The world is not as expansive as like an Assassin’s Creed game for example, but the space it uses don’t feel wasted or copy/pasted. Each area has it’s own biome and color theme attached to them. There’s a Kurosawa mode in the game which turns on a black-and-white filter similar to old samurai films. Gives the game more cinematic flare, but best reserved on second playthrough as it hinders gameplayGame has 3D audio. If you have a setup that supports it, can have an advantage in battle and gives a more immersive experience. If you play in Kurosawa mode; the 3D audio is turned off, and you get a tinny stereo sound to the audioCharacter performances are excellent (although over dramatic at times), but the lip syncing is a bit off. Didn’t break the immersion for me though as there are a lot of great emotional cinematic scenes and set pieces–Gameplay:Main weapon is your katana. Strike, block, dodge and switch stances. Timing and knowing enemy attack animations are important as a missed attack leaves you open. Few strikes from a strong enemy will leave you with a game over screen. Not a button mashing game, as you have to be patient at times with the enemy. As you progress, you gain consumable weapons like arrows, throwing knifes, and variety of bombs. The game consider this Ghost techniques/tools (thus the name of the game) as you’re using weapons/tools outside of traditional samurai combatBy defeating enemies you increase your resolve meter which you can use to heal or do special attackThere’s no lock-on system. When crowded by enemies can be hard to focus on who you’re attacking especially when you need to dodge an incoming attack inside a tight area like in a building/hut. Enemies don’t all attack at the same time similar to Assassin’s Creed or Arkham Batman games where they attack one at a time (most of the time), so there’s lee way there. Since there is no lock-on, the character movement does feel more fluid and cinematic, so it got that going for it.Take advantage of stances. Some stances are more effective than others depending on enemy type. You can switch stances on the fly where the game gives off a brief slow motion indicatorThere is stealth in the game, but it’s very lenient. You don’t need to worry about enemies’ bodies after you take them out. Once you take someone out without being spotted, you’re practically safe. Assassin animations are way better than anything i’ve seen in the Assassin’s Creed series.Boss battles have the camera hone in on two combatant making for a more epic presentation .Load times are really fast, even for fast travel. Game over loading screen is masked by death animationsThere’s no large objective indicator or mini map, rather you follow where the wind blows (after you set an objective marker on your map). If you’re having a hard time, just use the directional pad and it makes the wind more apparent. Makes for a more immersive experience as you focus on the environment around you rather than event markers on your HUD. Gives off a sense of destiny as the world draws you to where you need to be.Camera is a mixed bag. Sometimes it’s good, other times if you’re in a confined area, the wall can block your view. Best not to fight indoors when possibleMain mission and side missions (character, side, and mystic quests) stack. Can take them all on at once, no need to tackle them one at a time. Some side missions can be boring from a gameplay perspective at times as they focus on conversations while walking with NPC to draw out the lore, or have you do fetch quests that feel like doesn’t go anywhere. Doing these do help your character as they unlock new weapons and abilitiesThere’s no real level up system, rather exploration just give you more tools/perks (easier aiming, larger stagger on enemies), and upgrades (bigger time window on moves, larger draw distance, etc) to defeat enemies with. Able to collect materials to upgrade/craft weapons damage/capacity and armor effectiveness. There are also different armor you can equip that serve different purposes: one can be one combat based and other stealth based. There are charms you can collect which at like materia slots in Final Fantasy VII remake, giving you passive abilities and/or additional statsYou can stick to the main story if you want, but you’ll be missing out on hidden lore and new gameplay mechanicsMain campaign will last you 25-30 hours depending on how many side missions you plan to take on.Very fun game overall. One of the best, if not the best immersive open world games I’ve played. Along with Last of Us Part 2, great first party game to end the PS4 era with as we move onto the PS5

Best open world game since Witcher 3

Best open world game I have played in a while. I see some comparing it to Assassins Creed and yes it has similarities and as much as I enjoyed Odyssey this is a far better game.Graphics: Are some of the absolute best I have ever seen on the PS4. I think maybe Horizons or Uncharted were the most visually impressive games I had played until now. I am blown away by the environments and visual awe of this game. People look fantastic and plenty of armor and cosmetic choices albeit maybe not quite as many as some other RPG games. The particle effects are stunning. The minimal UI really helps give it a cinematic feel. I can’t tell you how many times I just stopped and starred at the incredible landscapes before me. I usually don’t bother with photo mode but this game just had too many amazing things to look at.Gameplay: The combat is easily the best i have played in an open world game. I love Witcher 3 more overall but the combat in this is untouched by an other open world RPG. Some are saying it’s like Sekeiro in terms of difficulty and while there are moments of difficult combat especially the duels which are like boss fights it’s not even close to being that hard unless maybe you put it on hard mode. It does have an easy mode if you need it. The actual combat has your quick and heavy attack, you can dodge and parry and get skills to upgrade these things. It feels really fluid and there were many times I felt like a total samurai badass. You also get a bow and many stealth tools to utilize to spice up the combat or approach the game however you want. The AI is pretty standard, not really good or bad.Story: It’s nothing that will blow you away, but it’s a good solid story that I enjoyed the whole way through. It won’t leave you feeling bitter like TLOU2. Its got plenty if side quests outside the main story and there is no boring fetch quest nonsense, each side quest and activity matters and fits the story of the game.Voice Acting: Top notch I went with the Japanese voices and English subtitles which can take a little getting used to, trying to read them whilst in the midst of also trying to pay attention to the combat on screen. I did get used to it after a while but just something to keep in mind. Also the Japanese voices don’t match up to the lips so it’s a little weird sometimes. The English voice actors did a great job I just preferred the Japanese because it fits the game more and they are just that good. All in all if you are looking for a fantastic open world RPG to take up a good chunk of time with lots to do and see with the best combat you’ll find in an open world RPG. You have the ability to play how you want and experiment. Or you just really want a good feudal Japan style game then this should be at the top of your list.

  10. Just my opinion NE

    Honest review

The game is good but not great. In a world where The Last of Us 2 is one star because of fan manipulation and false advertising, Ghosts is a worthy game. For me, it has a feel of Just Cause. Towns are repetitive and the upgrade tree is a matter of time. The missions are not as fun as Fallout. The story isn’t rich. This is my first samurai game. I don’t seem to like them. Please pardon if I say this incorrectly. I like stealth and planned attacks in my games. This leads to assassinations and quiet kills. Apparently this isn’t the samurai way. The game allows my gameplay and its fun, but I wonder if I’ll be punished for taking this path of gameplay. Many times it’s tells me I’m not being honorable. The samurai way of playing is stupid. It’s basically tell everyone I’m here and fight them all. Anyway, the game is entertaining enough. The landscape is kind of dull in that it’s empty. Most interesting places are up a hill so you feel like you are going up and down hills all the time. I like that you don’t have to manage your horse. Basically he’s there when you want him and you can leave him anywhere. The designers of the game care for their audience. I was surprised when I died several times from one boss that I was given the option of come back later, play easier or try again. I experienced one frustrating bug, and the fix was restart checkpoint. All and all I’m entertained. It’s not art. It’s what should be average in the gaming industry. Unfortunately in this environment the game is given overpraise because of the lack of worthy competition. One more note. The game has meaningful key pressing. This isn’t a mashem type game. Dodging and special moves are appreciated. The game is good. Others are better. It fills a need. I don’t know if it’s $60 buy it and be amazed, first day kind of good. It’s an enjoyable fill your time before the next great game kind of good. The graphics are attractive, and I may be jaded, but I feel I’ve seen better. I recommend if your game shelf is currently empty. If I had better, I’d let this one sit. After I fully explore this world, I’m not sure if I’ll care to finish the story. Days Gone had a more interesting world. I want a great game. I want what The Last of Us 2 could have been. I want great story, graphics, and gameplay without a political message to make the entire experience to feel trite. In terms of politics, Ghost appears to have no politics and that much appreciated. I hope my jumbled review helps you decide if this game is for you.
