Now is the best time to get a New Nintendo 2DS XL

The New Nintendo 2DS XL will play all games made for the 3DS and New 3DS, and 99.9% of all games made for all the DS handhelds going back to the very beginning of the DS line. That’s 15 years worth of games, and you can pick up many at Amazon or Gamestop at a good price, and many more on Ebay. The unit is lightweight and I love the XL-sized screen. The unit also comes with the game Mario Kart 7 already installed, so if you give this as a gift, the recipient will have a game to play immediately. You should know, however, that you cannot get the 3D effect on this handheld. I, along with many other gamers feel that the 3D effect adds little or nothing to gameplay and, even though I still have my 3DS, I have never played on it since purchasing this handheld. The 3D effect gives me a headache and also drains the battery much faster.Nintendo quit producing the New Nintendo 3DS and 3DS XL quite awhile ago, and I wanted to get the 2DS XL while it’s still possible to get a brand new one at a good price. Pretty soon, I think you’ll only be able to get a new one on Ebay at a jacked-up price, or buy one in used condition. Used video games are almost always okay (and if not, then Amazon or Ebay is on your side with getting your money back.) But with used handhelds and consoles, you never know how the previous owner took care of it.Nintendo introduced a new home console two years ago, the Switch; and a new handheld, the Switch Lite, will be released this month. If you like playing online, or if you just want to play the most recent games, this is probably a good deal. But these systems will have no backwards compatibility with the DS family of games, and the Switch and Lite games will be considerably more expensive. I’m getting a Switch Lite, but will be considering my game purchases much, much more carefully than I did for the DS systems.By the way, a good way to check out games before you purchase, is by watching Youtube videos of gameplay. You can find them for just about any game you’re interested in.

    Screen could be better.

I bought this for my wife for Christmas since she has always wanted Sims 2 Castaway since she played it on PlayStation 2. So I bought Sims 2 Castaway for this system for her. However since she already knew I was getting this for her I gave her this to her early. The graphics could be better. It’s not the best but I have seen games for smartphones on Google Play that have better graphics than what this system has. I know it’s a handheld gaming system, but so is the PSP and that has good graphics. I’m not saying that this is a bad handheld system. It’s better than Gameboy and Game boy color which I had both of those when I was a child. You can buy games off the Nintendo store and download them right onto the 2ds xl. There is also a web browser too. I might get one for myself if there are different colors because I do miss playing the original Mario and Super Mario, and Donkey Kong Country which this system has in the store. Once in a while I get tired playing my Xbox One and playing shooter games. Playing Mario and Donkey Kong will bring back childhood memories.

    4 1/2 Stars

Bought it for my son and he loves its. Works great. The only down side is that the stylus falls off all the time. I actually bought an other one in blue for my other son and in that one the stylus fits perfectly. Had to buy them seperatley because the seller allowed only one purchase of the 2DS XL per customer. Could not return the DS because it was a Christmas girft and I had bought it 2 months before. Although I did test them out before Christmas to make sure they work and they did but I didn’t put any thought into that detail (stylus). Other than that is a very good console.

Seems new but doesn’t include everything

Said that this was new with a game preinstalled – however, this appears to be a display model or used and then refurbished. It came in a plastic baggie, no instructions, no micro sd card which is supposed to be included, and the game was not preinstalled, it was a generic copy of a game cartridge. Otherwise cosmetically good, we don’t know if it works right yet or not because my daughter is on disability and we need to get a micro sd card for the unit so that it will work. Kind of a bummer that the games purchased on the older DS don’t transfer over! It seems so unfair to have to buy them again!Three stars because not as advertised and came only with the unit, a non-marked game cartridge, and charger. No instructions were included, no micro sd card, no box. Definitely not new as advertised, but the price was ok.

Great system. Maybe buy a bigger SD card?

So to start of this is an awesome handheld. It has lots of games to play, and the graphics are pretty good. They don’t compare to Xbox 1 or PS4 graphics, or the Switch, but if your not looking for a console with perfect graphics these are pretty good, and are definitely a improvement over the DS graphics.First Impressions:When you first get it, it feels really light, almost too light. I was nervous I was gonna break it. You soon get used to it, but it might feel weird at first. I do wish it came with a manual. I would recommend reading over the manual on the Nintendo website before/during setup. I thought the stencil was missing only to find out it was in the device next to the headphone jack all along. Would have been nice to know BEFORE I set up the entire thing, but you can’t change the past. I like that it comes with Mario Kart 7 so you can play right away. C-stick, ZR and ZL buttons are nice, but I have yet to find a game that uses them, so right now I can really only use them on the home menu. Really like the circle pad and I’m glad they added it on the 3DS and 2DS. After getting used to the weight it feels really nice to hold. Battery life is good (about 3-6 hours, depending on what your doing on it. Orange and white color scheme is really nice. The Games: The device came with Face Raiders, AR Games, and Mario Kart 7. Face Raiders is fun but I can’t really see you playing it unless you have nothing else to do. It’s fun, but all you really do is take pictures of faces and the fight them by shooting balls at them. AR games is fun for a little while but can be frustrating because unless you have every light on in the room it has trouble reading. It’s also hard to stay 14 inches away at all times. Mario Kart is really fun though, and I’ll leave a review on it soon.Mii Maker: If you have ever used a Wii or WiiU, chances are you know what a Mii is. If you don’t, it’s a little cartoonish character that you make to resemble you or a family member or friend. They’re fun to make, and if your like me, you’ll have fun making the most hideous Miis you can (Woman with a beard and eyes that don’t even attach to the face? Check).eShop: As it sounds, the eShop is an online store. You can get retro and indie games that you can’t get anywhere else. I mainly just go in it for the music C;.3DS Camera: It’s fun to use, though the picture/video quality isn’t great. It doesn’t have a lot of the filters the DSi has, which is a little disappointing, but you can still draw all over peoples faces >:).3DS Sound: Again, fun to use, the sound come back really quiet so you really have to put the speaker up to your ear to hear it unless your shouting, but it’s fun to filter different sounds.Activity Log: Since the 3DS doesn’t have Parental Controls for time limits, this might work if you want to see how much your kid is playing (Although if multiple kids use one system, the 3DS registers it as one person because you can’t have have multiple personal Miis).Download Play: You can play games with your friends with only one copy. You can also download DS titles, so it’s entirely possible to play with a DS/DSi user.Badge Arcade: This does NOT come with the 3DS. You have to get it from the eShop. You can find it under Free to Start. I feel like putting it in here since it’s actually really cool: The Badge Arcade is where you collect badges to decorate your home menu. You get them by playing these claw machine games. You can get badges based on all sorts of Nintendo games. I’m making mine look like a Mario course.StreetPass: You can exchange data with 3DS users you pass that have StreetPass enabled.Parental Controls: You can use these to limit what the system can do. Here is what you can restrict:Software Rating: Limits what you child can play via ESRB ratings.Internet Browser: Take away the ability to use the Internet Browser.Nintendo 3DS Shopping Services: Remove the ability to access the eShop and Theme Shop.Miiverse: Miiverse was discontinued, so this setting does not matter.Sharing Images/Audio/Video/Long Text Data: Removes the ability to share any of these things with people who are not friends.Online Interaction: Remove the ability to interact with other players.StreetPass: Remove the ability to use StreetPass.Friend Registration: Remove the ability to register friendsDS Download Play: Remove the ability to download DS titles via Download Play (Note: This does NOT remove the ability to download 3DS titles).Viewing Distributed Videos: Removes the ability to watch videosFinal Thoughts/Tl;DR: Really fun handheld, feels nice when you get used to it. Nice features and the included game is great. I’d recommend getting a bigger SD card if your going to buy more than around 4 games from the eShop. The included stylus wouldn’t stay in so buy some extras (I reviewed some great 3rd party styluses, so if your okay with that kind of stuff you should look into it). You should also buy a case, just in case (pun intended).

Love it! Works great, holds a good charge

Make sure to know the difference between the 2DS XL and NEW 2DS XL. I don’t buy a ton of games as I use consoles more, but when I browse games I see that complaint ALL THE TIME. People buy the older model thinking “new” just means it’s not pre owned. Big mistake by Nintendo for not naming them differently, but this version can play a lot more games.Regardless, I enjoy it for the “cartridge” games a bit but mainly to have the old classics you can buy and download and play anytime on a plain, hotel, or when the wife is watching a show I don’t want too lol. Older Mario’s, donkey Kong’s, Zelda, poker games, etc.

    Better than expected.

I wanted a 3ds, but I did not want a refurbished one, and the price gouging on ones that are new is rediculous. After doing some research I decided the 3D effect probably would not greatly improve my gameplay experience. So I turned to tue 2ds. Again major price gouging on new ones that have more appealing colors or are not the strange 1 piece design. So I decided out of all the reasinably priced new 2ds xl, this purple unit was less ugly than the others. I sure was not going to pay an extra 100 bucks for a black one ( what I wanted) Ill mever understand Nintendo and their color choices… anuway, I was really suprised. Its not as light purple as it looks in pictures, and when its flipped open you barely even notice the color. So I am very pleased with my choice.I’ve never been a mario cart fan, but the game is decent. Although I got 100% completion on all difficulty settings in a few hours… So 8f you are looking at a slightly cheaper version of this system, and are not a mario cart fan, I would not buy it for the free game, as it is very short.Hind sight being 20/20 i probably should have gone with a refurbished 3ds. But, this unit arrived quickly and from what I can tell it is brand new, no dead pixels, works great, and a good deal considering what these things still sell for. Im amazed you can now get a Switch for less that a 2ds XL.Truth be told, I bought it for the 2 kingdom hearts games you cant get on any other system, and zelda games.I’m very happy with the system and the seller.

    Perfect for Portable Play

This is my first Nintendo handheld of the DS line. The size is great & it’s lightweight, for my small pained hands. I can play all day before the battery dies. I really enjoy Mario Kart 7, which is preloaded on the device. The speaker placement is not a problem for me with the way I hold the DS. I like that the ports for the game cartridge & micro SD card have a cover, so you don’t accidentally pop out the cartridge or dust doesn’t get in. Everything feels like good quality to me & I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase another, should I ever feel the need for another design or want to give one as a gift.
