Nintendo 3DS XL

The Nintendo 3DS XL system combines next-generation portable gaming with eye-popping 3D visuals. Take 3D photos, connect to friends, other players, or wireless hotspots with the wireless StreetPass and SpotPass communication modes. With 90 percent larger screens than the 3DS, 3DS XL is the ultimate 3D entertainment system.

Nintendo 3DS XL

Play 3DS and DS games, take 3D photos,
and connect with friends

Nintendo 3DS XL includes two screens. The bottom touch screen makes use of a stylus that is stored in the unit itself. The top screen displays 3D visuals to the naked eye. Looking at the screen is like peering through a window into a world where characters and objects have true depth. The system also has a 3D Depth Slider that lets players select the level of 3D they enjoy the most. The 3D effect can be ratcheted up to the highest level, scaled back to a more moderate setting or even turned off completely, depending on the preference of the user.

3D Screen

The Nintendo 3DS XL system opens up a whole new world of eye-popping gameplay possibilities. The stereoscopic 3D display of the upper screen gives objects within the game world a feeling of space and depth that extends far into the back of the screen. It becomes easier to see the position of characters and obstacles in the world, making many game experiences even more intuitive for all types of players.

3D Depth Slider

A built-in 3D Depth Slider allows you to immediately adjust the intensity of the 3D settings on the Nintendo 3DS XL system to your liking. The 3D effect can also be turned down completely – all Nintendo 3DS games and applications can be played in 2D, and look better than any Nintendo handheld before it.

Motion Sensor and Gyro Sensor

Portable play control reaches a new level with these amazing features, allowing for new and unique gameplay mechanics. A built-in motion sensor and gyro sensor can react to the motion and tilt of the system, so whether players are twisting their systems side to side or moving them up and down, their motion-compatible Nintendo 3DS games respond instantly.

Stay connected with StreetPass and SpotPass, even when the 3DS XL is in Sleep Mode

3D Camera

The Nintendo 3DS XL system uses its two outer cameras to see the world in 3D, much like the human eye. This allows for the creation of 3D photos, 3D video, and even 3D stop-motion animations, that make for an eye-popping addition to your next photo op.

StreetPass

Social and wired like no Nintendo system before it, Nintendo 3DS XL brings fellow players together in exciting new ways with StreetPass communication. Set your Nintendo 3DS XL to Sleep Mode and carry it with you wherever you go to exchange game data like Mii characters, high scores, and custom characters with other users you pass on the street. You control what data you exchange, and you can exchange data for multiple games at once, making virtual connections with real-world people you encounter in your daily life.

SpotPass

Your Nintendo 3DS XL system can automatically connect to a wireless Internet access point. Once connected, special items will download automatically to your system via the SpotPass feature, even while in sleep mode. Some of these surprise items include exclusive content and promotions from Nintendo Zone, unique 3D videos from the Nintendo Video service, and add-on game content from your favorite Nintendo 3DS games.

Best gaming related purchase in my life!

I purchased this about a month ago and I now play it more than my Xbox 360! I played on a DSi prior to this and loved it as well but this thing is just flat out amazing, I don’t know how else to put it. The game selection is large and varied and has a game for everyone, the 3D is pretty neat in some of the games such as Ocarina of time HD although you have to hold it correctly to prevent ghosting, and the graphics are good enough to satisfy anyone but the PC gaming elitist. When the original 3DS came out I kind of scoffed as it just didn’t seem that great, fast forward like 2 years and the XL version comes out and after seeing one first person by a friend I was sold, I went home to do some research and it completely dwarfs the PSVita in every way besides graphics so I ordered one the next day. It really is a high quality system and improves upon the DSi in every way besides battery life and is backwards compatable with my DS game collection. My only real complaint is the rather short battery life, if you have the 3d mode on and the online enabled this thing is lucky to last over 5 hours from my experience which is a bit bothersome so you may need to get a portable battery pack for $20 to double the life to 10 hours if you go on a trip or something. If you don’t use 3D or online with medium brightness settings I could see you maybe squeezing the battery life to 7 and 14 hours respectably. All in all though if you are just a normal person that doesn’t travel much battery life will never be a problem and playing from bed with it plugged in to the wall allows you to play while charging it at home after a long day at work/school. Overall, Nintendo hit the nail on the head with this product. They might be failing in the home console department with the WiiU but this thing is pure gold and there is no other handheld gaming system that can compare overall with it including Sony’s offerings.

Fun device, could be in better condition

I do like the 3ds a lot, I forgot how fun it is to play on one, I ordered a used one, and it did say it had some scratches on it. I feel they placed the one i got in to high of a braket of good condition, lots of scratches on back and front, the blue color chipped away, and the divide between the two halves is pretty shaky, I do like it a lot coz it is fun. Just was a little surprised when i got it, I suppose you never know with used. I just think it shouldn’t have been rated as good condition as it was, and maybe it should have been a little cheaper.

    amazing

This is what the 3DS should have been all along, I am very pleased with this product. It arrived in perfect condition, and on time fulfilled by Amazon and delivered by UPS. If you are planning on upgrading from the original 3DS do it! If you don’t have a 3DS yet, get this one. The matte finish is much classier that does not attract finger prints and dust unlike the glossy finish on the original. It is much more ergonomocally designed than the original, with rounded corners and redesigned buttons. Also has a good weight that allows users to get a good grip on the system. The larger screens allow me to use the 3D effect to its fullest, I felt my eyes growing tired after extended use(45+ minutes) on the original. I can also not thank Nintendo enough for moving the stylus to the side, rather than keeping it on the top. The cameras are still the same 3 megapixal(think the first camera on a cell phone) but who doesn’t own a camera, or have a better one on their phones these days. overall I think this was a very smart move by Nintendo and I will be enjoying my 3DS experience to the fullest.

    A portable gaming BEAST!

I couldn’t be more impressed with my 3DS XL. I bought it due to disappointment in the quality of games I was getting on the iTunes App Store, and it hasn’t let me down. The XL DOES have it’s drawbacks. It has a lower resolution screen than you might be used to, and a small game library. That being said, it more than makes up for these faults. What the game library lacks in quantity, it more than makes up for in quality. (LOZ: ALBW, FE: Awakening, and Bravely Default being some of the platform’s best.) There is a decent selection of digital games and classic ports as well. Thanks to it’s size, the XL feels nice and sturdy. It also has nice “clicky” buttons instead of the softer buttons found on the DS Lite, and you DEFINITELY won’t have a hard time seeing things on it’s enormous screens. The 3D effect does work, and looks very impressive. (so long as you have TWO eyes) You might see a “ghosting effect” if you’re not viewing the screen at the correct angle, but it’s a pretty easy problem to fix.If you plan on playing older DS games, you might be a little worried about picture quality, due to the fact that your games are going to be blown up to a screen that’s almost 3x bigger. Rest assured, the vast majority of your games will look fine. I tried out everything from a SNES port (Chrono Trigger), NES ports (included with Contra 4), GBA Ports (Megaman Zero Collection), and plenty of regular DS games, both 2D and 3D.Nearly every DS game I tried looked perfectly fine. 2d games look especially nice, and suffer only a MINOR amount of blurriness (which shouldn’t be a problem unless you’re very obsessive). DS games with polygonal graphics, do look a bit rougher… but they are still very passable. If you’re a gamer whose burnt out on smartphone gaming, sick of Flappy Bird clones & free-to-play social crap, wants to play games with actual depth and quality to them, and wants actual pressable buttons… you can’t go wrong with a 3DS XL.

I love occasionally taking a break from work stuff to play …

I bought this for a few reasons. I’m 26 and started a new job this year. It has been stressful. My sister bought the original DS last year when she started her new big girl job as well. I totally get why she did it. I love occasionally taking a break from work stuff to play Smash Bros. 3DS or Mario Kart 7 on this system. It brings nostalgic feelings to me because I grew up playing Nintendo. My first system was the original gray Game Boy. Then, I upgraded to Game Boy Color and then Game Boy Advance. I also had the N64. I remember in my early teens I got the Gamecube when it was new as well as the original DS for Christmas. I spent hours playing Smash Bros. Melee with my friends when I was about 14 or 15. So for 11 years I got too busy and too grown up to buy a new Nintendo system. Well, I do not regret buying this. Some may say some titles like Smash Bros. and Mario Kart are just regurgitated and redone but I love it. It’s the reason I’ll always love these games. I love how big the screens are as well. I was comparing this side by side with my old DS system and Nintendo has made so much progress. I love this system for both the new technology added as well as the fact that it makes me instantly feel 14 again. Oh, and blue is my favorite color. I feel like this is a purchase I’m going to enjoy for years to come, even when Nintendo discontinues this handheld in the future for a new system. I may not always keep up with buying the latest model of consoles, but I’ll always be loyal to Nintendo because that’s what I grew up enjoying and one small factor that would bring my friends and I together.

The 3DS XL is JUST GREAT!!

The 3DS XL is JUST GREAT!!!By far the better of the two 3DS’s so far. Obviously, it’s bigger, and it has huge screens to compliment this. However, it’s actually much more comfortable to hold and it even feels lighter if that’s possible.SYSTEM DESIGNThe system has a massive 4.8 inch top screen, with the touch screen only being a bit smaller. The hardware uses a nice matte finish instead of the easily smudged, easily scratched, and far too reflective glossy finish of the original. The matte finish looks really nice and feels far better in the hands.Battery is far larger and lasts about 4-8 hours for me with the 3D off, and 3.5-6.5 with it on, and DS games get about 5-9 hours. The screens are huge and are truly beautiful. However, one of the biggest improvements is one that happened to almost every single original 3DS owner: the scratches. The 3DS XL has fixed the screen scratching problem that has plagued 3DS owners for a long time now. t.The volume switch has been made different as well. The SD Card Slot has been moved over to the right, and the stylus has moved there as well.GRAPHICSEvery game I have played on here looks amazing. The new screen is very bright with a lot of color, and the huge screen compliments the games very well. The 3D is far better on here as well. Not only does it look fantastic on the new screen, but the sweet spot has been made larger some how! Sadly, there is no light telling you if the 3D is usable or not, but that’s a minor thing and not too noticeable.SOUNDThe speakers are slightly quieter than the original.Overall highly recommended!!!

Best thing to happen to be since birth

If this is the best thing to happen to me since birth, maybe I’ve had a boring life? Maybe. Ive lived, Ive loved. Ive lived on both coast, rolled cars, been in fist de’ cuffs, in a snow bank. Had a gun pointed at me, once. Broken into a home to use the phone after ditching my car. And dont get me started on Vegas. So, yeah, ive had fun. I have a frame of reference. My point, the 3DS is awesome. Purchased with Zelda , a link to the past. For being a “dated” system, the graphics hold up. And the 3D is pretty awesome. Some people prefer turning the 3D off. My girlfrind was so impressed with the system, she bought one the next day, but opt for the 2ds. The 3D can be hard to focus on. So if you want the 3D you my want to spend the extra $ for the “new” 3DS which tracks your eye movement to help focus the 3D. Personally, I love the 3D. Next up, metal gear! So, if your on the fence about buying a 3DS, check out some vids on youtube, best games, diff models, features, etc. There is a massive library for this system, & and most games under $20. Its a no brainer.

    Great gaming device

I had the 3DS XL for nearly two years now. I purchased the 3DS XL for it’s larger screens, it’s size and because I find some of the best games (especially JRPG’s) are found on dedicated handhelds. I have a Vita and wanted to extend my possibilities. I brought Fire Emblem Awakening, Etrian Odyssey Untold, Pokemon X, SMT IV, Monster Hunter 4, Mighty Switch Force 2, Bloody Vampire and a few others. I’m looking forward to the new Etrian Odyssey games, Fire Emblem IF and others.Pros2 big screensEasy to useGreat library with more games to comeComes with a 2 GB SD Memory CardCan use any SD or SDHC or SDXC up to 128 GB (maybe 256 GB)! (Unlike my vita)ConsNo security pass codeYoutube App quality is terrible and the App crashes oftenNo tabs for browser. To be honest the browser isn’t anything specialOnly one analog stick, should’ve been two3D. Should’ve made a cheaper 3D-less version

3ds xl older model better version

This unit is a 100 times better than the new one nintendo just released. For some reason nintendo felt the need to put the power button on the front side rather than on the face so if you’re really into a game and trying to beat the level nine out of ten times you will end up shutting the system down. plus this one comes with the charger not like the new ones where you have to cough up another 24.95 for the charger. I’m pretty sure nintendo changed the unit just so they could say it’s new and different so people will buy it and nintendo will make more money (makes sense but totally unfair) They say the screen is bigger on the newer model I really didn’t notice a difference. I just know that the old model fits nicely in my hands while playing a game and the new one gave me callouses. Weight wise they feel the same I didn’t think the new one was any lighter, it’s just really uncomfortable to hold.

    Overall great system

I will not go as in-depth into this and, as this is a very late review, I will touch only upon a few points.Firstly, I love this sytem. It’s my go-to handheld gaming console and I take it almost everywhere I go. The screens aren’t as sharp as the original 3DS nor the N3DS, though I think it’s sharper than the N3DS XL.My hands are a little on the small side and this sytem can feel rather weighty to hold – if you’re like me and sometimes play laying on your back expect your arms to tire out holding the system over your face. The 3D is nice, but not a feature I utilize often due to how my vision is, though I imagine I would put it to greater use if my eyes were better.Overall this is still a great system, but with the release of the N3DS systems, you may wish to consider getting those instead. I still love this and will likely be using it for a while to come.
