This game is garbage. I regret buying this game and I should have purchased anything else.
The story is terribly written, there is no payoff to gamers that enjoyed the first game. They focus on the new characters while taking a dump on the characters we fell in love with (Joel / Ellie). If you loved the first game, and you appreciated the bonds between the two main characters, you’ll feel betrayed by Naughty Dog on this one.

This game is a slap in the face to everyone that loved the first game.
Finished the whole game unlike most reviewers here. Narrative and storytelling wise this game is atrocious. The scene cuts and flashbacks have no order and only hurts the player experience and adds confusion which is never resolved. If you enjoyed the first last of us game then be warned, the devs really made it their mission in this game to tear down everything we loved and enjoyed from the predecessor in hopes to “subvert expectations” but it backfired and is arguably worse Game of Thrones’ 8th season. The narrative choices feel forced in a bad way, extremely edgy, genuinely confusing, and downright nonsensical at times. The major problem I have with this game is that the plot lines go nowhere and it doesn’t even leave you on an ominous note. It feels as if you played and finished the game for nothing, since nothing is actually achieved. Gameplay wise, there’s no standout generational improvements from the ps3 era and enemy mob entities are reused multiple times throughout the game; it feels like you’re fighting the same 10 zombies and humans. The enemy AI is also terrible, you’ll have no trouble getting through the game’s most difficult areas which there are very few of since the enemies are unable to detect you behind the smallest of covers. Only positive I could think of is the voice acting and even that gets tiring since the majority of this game is just cutscenes and dialogue while walking from one point to another without any significant gameplay events occuring. 1/10 because they ruined such a loved franchise. This game should have never been made.
The game’s graphics are beautiful. Great mechanics like the first game. Amazing environments by the concept artists. Stellar voice acting. But the story is TERRIBLE. One must judge for themselves, but I don’t believe this game should have been made. They found a way to give the most depressing ending possible to two of the greatest characters of all time.

Story Driven Masterpiece
Continuation of the first game (in case you can’t tell from the title). Core gameplay is the same, but they’ve added more mobility and enhanced enemy AI to make for a more realistic scenario. Still story driven game. Has linear progression, and is not full open world similar to first game, but the levels are larger and if you explore you get more rewards/resources. Integration of story and gameplay is really good and gets you immersed in the world-Story/Plot:Story takes place 5 years after the first game where Ellie and Joel are now in a safe community and has settled down in Jackson, Wyoming. Main focus is on Ellie this time around, but you play multiple characters getting there perspectives through timeline jumps/flashbacks. Starts off with Ellie trying to uncover the truth about what happened at the end of the Last of Us (part 1) then it goes into revenge quest as opposing groups gets involved.Character development and motivation are realistic seeing the situation/mindset they’re in. As you play, you question if Ellie’s motives are rational or not, seeing her lust for revenge The Punisher (Marvel) style. Amazing emotional experience when you couple it with gameplay.Theme of the game is revenge as you go into two character’s different perspectives on it and how they deal with the thought of vengeance giving parallel life situationsGraphics and audio are really good. Very high production value. A lot of environmental detail (foliage, snow dropping down tree branches as you pass them) and realistic facial expressions. Sound track and ambient sound are excellent; best played with headset or 5.1 surround sound.-Gameplay:Able to adjust individual difficulty settings: Overall, Player, Enemies, Allies, Stealth and Resources from very light to survivor difficulty. There are 60+ settings, vision and visual accessibility for those who have disabilities. Even if you don’t have disabilities, you can take advantage of them for combat or finding collectablesCore gameplay remains the same from the first game with some enhancementsThere’s a dedicated jump button giving verticality options to fights and environmental puzzlesEvade mechanics for hand-on-hand battles.
