A (Really) Great Entry Level Wired Headset

For what it costs, I had relatively low expectations of this headset. I came from a Corsair Virtuoso SE wireless headset that had a great mic and very good sound, but the connection with my PS4 was never very solid and I would notice relatively frequent dropouts in audio. Friends with PS4s swore by using the 3.5mm jack on the controller and I decided to use this to test.Build QualityWhen you pick up the headset the first thing you notice is just how light it is. It feels somewhat solid, but also it’s clear that this is not a headset that prioritized premium materials. It’s also extremely comfortable because of how light it is. Although I’ve never had issues with heavier headsets and neck pain, if that is a consideration the light materials should be great for long term sessions. The pads are faux leather on the interior ring and exterior ring. The part that rests against your head feels like something a little more breathable. I don’t think I will have any issues wearing these for long sessions. The clamping force is a good moderate level where they won’t fall off accidentally, but I don’t feel like I am in a death grip.Mic QualityI made some calls using the mic and, I believe this to be a great compliment to the quality of the mic, no one thought I was on a headset. “It’s like you were actually talking through your phone.” Although they have a gamer vibe, I could definitely see using these on conference calls (as long as the video was off.) Basically, the mic is great.Audio QualityHere’s where I was expecting things to fall apart, but they really didn’t. I decided to make a completely unfair comparison between these and my pair of Sennheiser HD600s run off of an AudioQuest DragonFly Black DAC/AMP. There was clearly no contest between the two headphones in terms of vocals or detail retrieval, but the Razer wasn’t a bad headphone by any means. It had a clear and present bass, without being muddy. I do feel like the Corsair Virtuoso had a more full sound, but the spotty connection ruined it.Gaming tends to be, I think, more forgiving than listening to music … so I ran through a couple of games as a test. I tried a game that I feel focuses on background music (Unravel), which sounded great. I also tried something with more exploding (Borderlands 3) and the headset felt equally competent.Flaws (But Not Deal Breakers)The volume knob goes the opposite of the way my mind treats every other volume knob in my life. Clockwise turns the sound down?! WHY?!I would have loved an LED to remind me that I’m muted. My first attempted call failed because the mute was engaged.ConclusionThe Razer Blackshark V2 X might have a terrible name, but it’s an amazing product at the price point. I don’t play as many games online as I used to and I listen to a lot more music. For me, it makes sense to have a great pair of headphones for music and solo play as well as a cheap headset for online play with friends and conference calls. This works for me.

I wanted good wireless headphones and got them

TLDR: So far so good! Only used them for a few hours but set up was easy and I love the product so far.I was a little disappointed in years prior when spending BIG bucks on wireless headphones. I wont mention brand names but even well reviewed devices caused me bad luck. I spent LOTS of time reading reviews and toiled over how much to spend and what would be both easy to use and sound really good. I think my search paid off because thats exactly what I got with this product.I just started using the BlacksharkV2 Pro but for one… the set up IS actually as easy as advertised.I charged the device as instructed. Put the wireless dongle in the USB3.0 hub of my laptop. The software just installed on its own.I didnt have to break my brain tweaking windows preferences everything just did what the isntructions said it would. Following them was easy.Im not an expert level computer technician and the software is very intuitive. It automatically detects when the device is connected and you can customize settings on the fly. And there arent TOO many complicated settings to tweak. So maybe expert level users would be turned off. But for me its “just right”… enough for me to feel satisfied in the tweaking I would expect from a higher end product but not so much that its stressful to use. I booted up Madden, played with settings for about 5 minutes and was gaming from that point on. As far as what settings do… I knew what I was measing with and what I didnt know was easily explained right there on the software. Im so impressed with the software that Im considering using this brand for other devices. These are first impressions but the sound quality is quite nice. Im no audio freak but the quality exceeds expectations, especially after messing with the settings.Functionality is fine. With wireless headphones I expect the controls to be on the headset itself. This means the buttons are small and tight together by nature, but this design is as convenient as i think it could be. The mute button feels good and is easy to hit. The volume control dial is easy to find on your head. The features advertised work well and didnt let me down.My only gripe is that I had some trouble with the detachable mic. I have the settings fully cranked up on my mic output and its STILL a touch low on dischord for my team mates. I had some issues getting it to face the right way but once I did I found the quality acceptable. The actual connection from the mic to the headset isnt all that sturdy so it took some fiddling at first but I havent had problems since I positioned it how I like. The downside is that it somewhay defeats the purpose of having a detachable mic if the set up is so fiddly that it has to be JUST RIGHT every time.I always get worried with devices like headphones that they look differently than pictured. These cans are as sleek as I expected. No surprise silly flashy lights like my last pair. Theyre nice and comfy on my head. For me its a perfect balance of snugging to my head while moving around a little without causing too much uncomfortable pressure.

    10/10 Best Budget Friendly Headset!

The Triforce 50 MM drivers deliver immersive audio and the microphone has crystal clear quality. I’ve had numerous headsets throughout my gaming experience and these are by far the best for their price. $60 Well Spent in my book!

    Meh…It’s okay…Razer Kraken is better on PS4

I realllllly wanted to love this headset. I have the Razer Kraken and the Thresher 7.1. (Along with HyperX and Corsair headsets) I expected the sound to be better than the Kraken based on some reviews.(PS4 Experience)It’s a good build, especially for smaller heads. I found it smaller than the Kraken, but the clamping force is also greater. I didn’t have to adjust the size, but the hinges are it weak area. The BlackShark does feel very comfortable at first. After a couple of hours gaming, my ears started to hurt. I find both the Kraken and the Thresher more comfortable and they stay cool longer; however, the BlackShark is lightweight and has comfortable ear pads. I think the clamping force is what made it uncomfortable after awhile. The sound is good, but nothing that really wowed me. In fact, I was disappointed because I didn’t notice much of a difference from the Kraken other than volume. The BlackShark does get louder….much much louder; however, the sound isn’t as rich or detailed as expected. In comparison to the Thresher 7.1, it fails miserably in my opinion. The mic had annoying static/hiss when I was playing with friends. My friend even recorded it on his end so I could hear it. We tried Party Chat and the static/hiss went away, but this meant that I would be dependent on the Party Chat versus in-game chat. The plus was that the mic was super loud. I had to adjust the settings to way low…the static/hiss was still present though. Perhaps it was just a faulty BlackShark V2 X headset. Why the 3 Stars? The mic mute is almost hidden behind the ear cup cord. Not sure why they placed it where they did. The volume knob turns in the opposite direction that other knobs usually do although this wasn’t a major negative. The volume gets loud, but begins to distort at louder volumes. It lacks bass as well. Also, the surround sound software is pretty much useless if you play on the PS4. The surround sound is really meant for PC use; however, it didn’t really enhance the sound. It was okay. I would find a better pair for the PC. Maybe the non-X BlackShark is better.Verdict: I was expecting more for the hype. Returning the headset and sticking to my Krakens 7.1, Corsair H70s, HyperX Stinger wireless, and the Thresher 7.1 which is the best sounding set for the PS4 in my experience.

The best under $100 headset on the market

Ignore the one comment about some dude complaining about something he should of read. These sounds amazing and the mic is so clear and strong. The quality for games such as warzone is amazing loud footsteps, and sounds like you’re in a movie if turned up enough. I was using the PS4 pro headset, which sound amazing and super comfy, but lack a good mic. Not only do these headsets sound close to the PS4 pro headsets but are super comfy as well. Highly recommend.

    eSports Grade

I’m a former semi-pro Overwatch player, and these headphones are almost better than the studio-grade sound-canceling ones we used for tournaments. 4 stars for sound quality since the ANC isn’t as good, but it still allows me to focus on the game and tune out everything else. The Surround is amazing on these, allowing for distinct and accurate noises even in a chaotic battlefield. Everything from music to movies to games is crisp and clear, and the cable is the perfect length. It’s lightweight and fits snugly on my head, and doesn’t put pressure on my glasses. I would pay 4x the price for headphones as good as these, highly recommended.

Good hardware ruined by bad software

Build quality seems good, sound quality is alright. Comes with some extra goodies in the bag such as a splitter cable and a felt bag to carry the headset in. Ear pads are a bit small. However, in order to use the 7.1 surround sound functionality, you’re required to download a separate app from razer synapse and required to log in. While this isn’t exactly new for razer products,in Synapse 3 you can at least opt in to continue as a guest however this 7.1 software forces you to create an account and log in. Not a fan.
