but it’s a very nice keyboard for the price

This is my second purchase of this keyboard. This first one I ruined by spilling drinks on it (multiple times, oops.). The keyboard doesn’t have excessive features, but it’s a very nice keyboard for the price. No quirks, good build quality. I find it a nice keyboard for gaming. It isn’t too small, my hands are large, and I have no problem quickly typing, or using multiple hotkey bindings for games.Update: Honestly, I wouldn’t want to use any other keyboard at this point. I think they found the perfect button height, keypress firmness, keypress pressure, etc. Everything about this keyboard is made for efficiency, and it really shows once you get used to it.Recommended.

Best non-mechanical board on the market for gamers

Solid keyboard. Backlit keys seem like a novelty until you’ve used it for awhile, then it’s simply impossible to go back. If you’re a mechanical board fan, this isn’t for you, but if you’re looking for a non-mechanical board this is pretty much as good as you can get.I used a Razer Lycosa for many years before the crucial “R” key stopped working, and I was on the market for a new keyboard for weeks before I settled on the DeathStalker. I know mechanical keyboards are the rage in gaming these days, but I really prefer to avoid those because of the noise. I wasn’t specifically looking for another Razer product but it looks like out of the major gaming keyboard manufacturers, they’re the only ones still making quality non-mechanical boards. It worked out pretty well. I’m very happy with the Chroma so far. The practically infinite color selection is by default set up for a constant, yet subtle, color shift across the spectrum, and is a great feature that adds a striking touch to your workstation (or battlestation). In terms of cost, many people will balk at paying $80+ for a keyboard when they’ve never used a gaming keyboard before. Easy mistake to make. In terms of budget, get yourself a quality mouse first, sure. But don’t skimp on your board! If you’ve ever played high intensity games that require a lot of keypresses at once, and find yourself frustrated when you’re pressing buttons that aren’t counting… that’s your keyboard limitation. This keyboard alows up to 10 simultaneous keypresses at once and will record all of them – nothing gets lost. That can make a huge difference.Does offer plug and play functionality, requires no installation, but if you want to customize the color features you’ll want to install the Razer drivers from their website.

LIGHTS HUMMMM so loud I have to turn them off or unplug my keyboard to sleep

It sounds like a really loud electronic mosquito deep in your ear canal. I ultimately had to turn the lights off for most of my use because the constant hum gave me a headache and felt damaging to my ears. Sometimes I turn the lights on again if I’m gaming at night with headphones to drown out the humming. In my view, this makes the entire lighting system absolutely garbage since it is unusable without pain. If it didn’t hum, it would be pretty good. Also, the keys are a bit on the sticky side. Occasionally I have to double tap a key to get it to go down and register.

    Great design

I’m on my computer a lot. Gaming and working.I eat near my keyboard. I game with passion (strong strokes). I have this for more then 2 years now. After a cleaning session, the keyboard looks and acts as if new (Indication for great plastic material and mechanics). The slim keys and overall low profile renders the need for a support cussion absolet. (I have medium size hands \ wrists).Easy to type, and, although a personal preference, in comparison to a classic bulky mechinalical keyboard – much more slient while maintaing good click feedback.Because the keys are very slim, there click curve is very short (there isn’t a lot to push), and steep – meaning while you exert force on a key – the key will remain unfazed until a certain threshold is passed, when the key will “fall” or slide into a clicked position very quickly – resulting in a “click” expirense that is also smooth somhow. All in all it feels natural and nice.If you wondered whether a slim keyboard is good gaming option for you, and tried a a microsoft \ apple slim keyboards, It’s not the same – the feedback here is much better so it’s better to not compare. You can config the keyboard Extra Functionality keys (multimedia start, stop next etc) to override the original key value, to remain masked behind a “FN+F1-12” clicked (which I got used to quickly), and you can also assign profiles with each behaviour. So – for exmaple – I have 3 profiles:Casual – All F1 keys are set to multimedia override (assigned each FX key to it’s corrosponding phisical icon)Gaming\Programming – All F1 keys assigned to their original (and I use the FN+F1-12 when needed) (gaming mode includes Razer build in Gaming mode featurs of disabling ALT+F4 \ winkey or alt-Tab accidental program swich – which is awesome as it happens to me a lot during heat of battle. My only regret is that I cheaped out and didn’t get the full RGB model, which at the time was 30$ more. Now – that I know it’s a quality long lasting product, I would have preffered to the RGB model to help me better differentiate my 3 profiles. (Currently you can tell by a small green text appears on screen at the moment of the switch)

Great design, Sticky keys are problematic

I’ve tried all of them except the Chroma version. The non-backlit version (essential) has the highest quality keys – and is the best product – but you can’t use the keyboard in the dark because you can’t see the keys. This version works like a charm, and the keys are silky smooth and typing is a breeze. The backlit version (expert) – requires more force and has terribly sticky keys and is overall pretty difficult to work with. If your angle of attack is anything other than 90 degrees, you will have problems pushing the keys and you will skip characters. Pretty awful. Also, about 5-10 times a day the CTL key or some other key gets stuck and it causes unintended repeated keystrokes until you find the offending key and de-press it.I’ve had these keyboards for over three years now, and I’d recommend the essential version if you can live without a backlight. The features and design are great, but the backlit version is a nightmare to your productivity. Sadly, there’s not another keyboard on the market with the exact same feature set (wired, backlit, quiet, built-in wrist rest, flat keys, good materials and design aesthetic).

    Mushy, imprecise keyboard

I really wanted this to be the high-end backlit chiclet-style scissor-action keyboard for Windows that would be as good as a high-end laptop keyboard, or the old-model Apple aluminum wired keyboard I use with all my Macs.It isn’t. The membrane/scissor keys are soft and mushy and imprecise. The spacing seems weird. The keycap font is just bizarre. Within two minutes of plugging it in, I knew that it was going back. I’ve got an extra $15 USB keyboard I keep around for when you need an extra keyboard, and this one feels about the same.I do a great deal of programming and a great deal of gaming. I’m not sure this is good for either one. It’s got gaming style cues (like the crazy font), but the tactile feedback isn’t precise enough. (The Apple wired keyboard is much better at this. When Apple is out-gaming your gaming product, you gotta stop and take stock.)The ergonomic palm rest on the front isn’t removable, which is unfortunate in tight spaces. This keyboard is discontinued now, and I think that’s for the best.

VERY small complaints about this great keyboard

PRO:-Quite quiet!-Good layout for gaming-Comfortable button shape-Easy to tell when buttons have been pressed-Able to disable common key problems when gaming (alt-f4, alt-tab, windows key etc)CON:-(nit picky) The essential version is tough to read keys, but i touch type so this only impacts less used keys, which isn’t that big of a deal-(nit picky) the volume keys could be easier to hit with one hand, or dedicated keys not involving FN. Not a really big deal tho.DETAILS:-DESIGN:The keyboard has good styling, nice shaped chicklet keys and is not flimsy. The wrist rest is very nice and comfortable – I didn’t realize I would like having one, so an added bonus for me. The LED indicators for caps lock, num lock, game mode and macro mode are very easy to see. This keyboard is also nice and quiet. It isn’t silent, but you can use it with someone nearby and it won’t make them want to strangle you while you write your memoirs. On the essential version, which I purchased, it is hard to read the keys as they are dark grey on black. Additionally, the screen glare washes them out making them illegible. This is not a problem for anyone who can touch type, though. Additionally, moving my head forward and looking down more vertically (with SOME light in the room) makes this a non issue.-GAMING:I have had no problem gaming with this keyboard. I switched from mechanical to this due to my wife not being able to take the clattering keys anymore. Being able to disable alt-f4, alt-tab, and windows key while gaming is really nice. I previously had hacked the windows registry to do this, but the software included makes this really easy to do. You can press FN+F10 to turn on and off game mode, which disables whatever keys you tell it. VERY very nice. You get to use alt tab or whatever whenever you aren’t gaming and easily turn it off. Some keyboards place the FN key on the far left. That interferes with easy keybinding especially for MMORPGs. CTRL is a very common bind for me. I cannot use the heel of my hand to hit the modifier on keyboards with the FN on the left. This keyboard has CTRL on the left, which works exactly how I want. FN is way on the right so it doesn’t pose any problems at all.It would be nice if the volume controls were easier to hit with one hand, as another reviewer mentioned, but not a deal breaker for me as I tend not to fiddle with this much (and controls are on most headsets anyway).CONCLUSION:Don’t buy this keyboard just because it is leet gaming razer. That is a dumb reason to spend the money. If you need to make sure you can press up to 10 keys simultaneously, need a quiet keyboard and like a chicklet shaped key, this keyboard is great. I have no complains and would recommend to a friend. I have two gaming PCs and both now are using this keyboard.

    Lighted keys are beautiful….

–Review of Razer Deathstalker expert gaming keyboard–This is a pretty neat keyboard. The keys are so smooth. I am coming from a Logitech MK320 so I am getting used to the tactile feel of the chiclet keyboard.Everything about the keyboard feels solid and with a good build. While typing the keyboard sticks to my desk so it doesn’t move at all (neither did any of my keyboards not that I think of it).Keystrokes noise is a bit louder but fades quick with each stroke.I haven’t used the software that came with but windows 10 x64 pro (ver 1607) did download and ask to install once I plugged in the USB connector. Speaking of USB, the cable is plenty long and a good thickness.I love the palm wrest. It makes typing very comfortable when compared to the Logitech MK320.The green light is perfect and not overly bright. I can find the key I want while playing BF4 in the dark.I don’t have any humming noise like other have mentioned. My only complaint is I wish it came with a blue led light as my computer has a blue led fan. I guess I can change out my fan to green to match.FYI: Purchased from local retail store that starts with a W. They had 2 boxes. One that says windows 7 compatible and one that says windows 8 compatible. I went with the newer box that said windows 8 certified.I hope the coating on the keys doesn’t wear. I know this is a membrane keyboard but I don’t like mechanical.

still works the same after 5 years

works the same after 5 years of everyday uses and gamingPROS:1.build quality is good2.wrist rest attached3.angle adjusting legs6.the usb cable isn’t braided but still no damageafter 5 yearsMinor issues after 5 years of using:1.as described no backlighting on the keys,so it’s hard to see when your room is dark(if you need led go for another model)2.the key labels do rub off after a lot of uses, but only the ones that came off completely for meare “s,d” and almost gone keys are “a,z, left shift”other than those frequently used keys, the letteringsare still looking like new.3.this is really small butthere is a very thin rectangle line that’sindented on the palm rest and things get in thereand you can’t really clean it unless you usesuper thin needles or stuff like that to take them out.I still recommend this keyboard to anyone who needs aentry level gaming keyboard with a modern design 🙂

WARNING: this keyboard DOES NOT have n-key rollover

One of the main reasons someone might buy a gaming keyboard is for n-key rollover (the other is for latency, but third-party testing has not generally found gaming keyboards to have lower latency than non-gaming keyboards, google “keyboard latency” if you want to know more). This keyboard advertises n-key rollover with the phrase “Actuate as many keys as you have fingers, and have all of them register accurately and quickly in-game.” This is false. For example, this keyboard cannot simulatenously register {w, d, n}. In general, if you have wasd bindings, you cannot also use the j or m keys either (I didn’t debug to figure out the exact combinations that don’t work, but they definitely happens regularly). I haven’t done exhaustive testing; that’s just what I noticed with the keybindings I use. I’d be surprised if they’re the only key combinations that don’t work.
