Great keyboard, not so great macros.

Things to note re macros:The on-keyboard macro record (the G1-5 keys) has a maximum length of 8 keystrokes – I guess these are for awkward keyboard shortcutsPressing the ‘REC’ key (even for a split second) clears all the G1-5 macros – so be careful with thatThe software is lacking features – you can assign each keys to type a key combination or do ‘media’ things like play/pause.YOU CAN’T USE THE SOFTWARE TO ASSIGN KEYS TO THE G1-5 KEYS – I have no idea what the point of the software is.It would have been nice to have it launch a program of your choice or something like that. I guess you can use auto hot keys for that.I’m keeping it at 5 stars because I got it for the typing experience and for simple macros, but I wanted to put this out there in case other people were interested in macros.

I am VERY picky – they met ALL my needs! 5/5 🙂

I spend a LOT of time on my computer. I am a very heavy user on keyboards, mice and alike. I use the keyboard more than others, I try to take good care of mine, but the usual wear and tear will happen over time. That said, I have a very particular taste on my peripherals. My old keyboard was fine, up until I thought I had a dead key (this wasn’t the case) but prompted me to get this keyboard by Redragon. After my old keyboard, I had / have high standards. I like the metal (metal alloy, or some form of metal plating) as the backplate or back, or under the keys, however you want to word it. It’s almost a requirement for my keyboards. They protect against spills are normal wear and tear, it helps. This particular keyboard is the one I have been searching for, ever since my previous keyboard had stopped selling, I can rest easy knowing that Redragon upholds to a high standard for the price. (I paid like what, 50-60 USD) Normally keyboards of this design (non-third party) such as Corsair would run you approx. 70-100 USD. So while they (Redragon) has a very high quality keyboard, they also have it at a VERY affordable price. (For the design of the keyboard) Also it’s worth mentioning that the sound of the blue switch and the feel of the blue switch is very very akin to – hey – a blue switch. It feels good and natural. The clicky-ness is perfect (for my taste // for blue switch). They also offer various lighting modes (as most RGB keyboards do) and they have it very easy to access, which are used by the function keys and ins, home, etc. It also has macro keys, which are easily programmed! If I HAD to choose a downside, and yes, I am really going to have to get nitpicky (as in there is mainly upsides to this keyboard) I really dislike the big logo on the top right. It’s natural to have logos, I know, but it just kind of stands out from the natural design and sleekness of it. This does not affect my review of it at all, but if I HAD to pick something as a negative, there you go.TL;DR = Sleek design, good backplating (some type of metal), blue switch (good feel – which is my taste), great price for the quality. You can tell when hardware is cheaply made and done quick, this obviously is the exact opposite. (High Quality – And I have owned approx. 3 third party keyboards in the past, my first one ever was so bad lol!)

One unfortunate coffee spill, now I’m a believer.

Honestly, I just wanted a keyboard that looked pretty and functioned well for typing and gaming. All the RGB hype that’s out there kinda missed me, but seeing this thing up close is mesmerizing. I’ve been looking at grabbing a mechanical keyboard for some time. The things that sold me on this specific unit were the price, inclusion of macros, and the multitude of RGB patterns that were programmed in.Two things of note:1) I spilled coffee on this thing two weeks after purchasing it. I. freaked. out. I’ve had keyboards die from this occurrence before. I drained it, wiped it as best as I could and plugged it back in. Many of the keys were sticky. I was heartbroken. I came back to the Amazon page to read if it could be washed, because it was easier than searching for my manual. The page said it’s “water-proof.” “Yeah, right” I thought. Well, today, I removed the keycaps from the sticky switches, and thoroughly rinsed each with warm water. I shook it off, used a towel, replaced the keycaps, and plugged it back in. Now it’s typing like it is brand new again. That’s the experience that has pushed my conscience to type this review. I am very happy with my purchase. It’s tried and true.2) I wanted to comment briefly on the noise factor. It’s true this is a noisy keyboard, however, in my limited experience, it’s not noisy to the point that it should keep you from buying it. I am really used to the noise now, and it really didn’t take long to acclimate. I would buy this keyboard again 10-times over. If you have an RTX-capable NVIDIA graphics card, the new “RTX voice” app can basically remove the sound of a mechanical keyboard from your microphone during a stream, Zoom conference, etc. There are tutorials out there to enable this feature even for non-RTX cards. In short, I am a very happy customer. I wholeheartedly recommend this device for gamers and professionals who want a solidly-built, water-proof, clicky, mechanical keyboard with beautiful RGB patterns and macro keys.

Metal top rings/pings every time I press a key and bottom it out. Closer the key is to top, the louder the ring. When typing fast and a lot, it’s just constant stream of metal ringing.* The macro functions only accept 8 keys.* The keys are nowhere near cherry blues for tactile feel. Definitely tactile and clicky. Maybe half the tactile feel of cherry blues.* The macro keys are not mechanical. When pressing, they do not always work. They are somewhat flat with little depression distance.Pretty much a waste of money. I really can’t use it due the sound of the metal frame. The sound from the metal frame is too loud and distracting due to the high pitched nature of the sound. The clicky sound from the keys is fine.

Some keys seem to die without high use

Purchased this to replace a smaller mechanical keyboard i had, mostly because i wanted a physical numpad back. However overtime ive noticed some keys werent responding, thought maybe something stuck under them. Nothing.Maybe id used the keys more then i thought so i replaced the part with some spares that were included with the keyboard. That fixed the issue for maybe a day before it came back.Keys along the edges like tab and shift and were getting to become a problem. Ive never had keyboards do this before and have gone back to the smaller mechanical keyboard i was using before. Even after a year worth of dust n build up that thing has no issues so Im at a loss for what kept dying in this.I wouldn’t recommend this keyboard to anyone. Or even the brand after this.

    Typists’ Keyboard.. Also For Gaming

There’s a lot to like about this keyboard. I use it for work and for play and I would say that it does both jobs well. The key noise is noticeable but can be managed with some o-rings.Price – At $57, you’d be hard pressed to find another full-sized mechanical keyboard with the same quality at this price.Construction/Build Quality – There’s a lot of plastic in this keyboard; but, the actual plate that the switches sit on is made out of metal with a brushed look. Overall, seems solid enough for me.Switches – There’s no way that these are CherryMX; but, it’s not necessarily an issue. Overall, they get the job done and have that distinctive click and tactile bump to them. That being said, I do think that not all of these switches seem to be exactly the same in sound and feel. There seems to be a larger tolerance in manufacturing. Again, not necessarily a problem and perhaps not noticeable for some people.Macros – I really wanted macros because my last keybaord had them. Despite there being some dedicated keys at the top, I’ve found that I don’t actually end up using the macros.RGB – The RGB is cool; but, I don’t have anything super fantastic to say about it.

Good if you are working/playing alone

This keyboard is solid. I love the sound of the otemu blue switches however the clacks are loud enough that it can easily become a foreseeable problem if you are going to be using this keyboard with other people in the room for long durations (such as an office). The RGB is nice and can easily be turned off if I don’t wish to see it. It also comes with 5 handy macro switches which I find helpful for when I am video editing. Also red dragon gives you 8 spare switches of varying colors (2x blue, red, black, brown) so if you are buying this as your first mechanical, you can experiment with which color you like. This board is not perfect however, one of the biggest flaws is that there is a notable tin-like noise that is caused by the key noises (the (in)famous blue switch clacks) echoing off the metal base of the board. This echo is easily mitigated however by having any sort of background noise such as oscillation fans, or playing any sort of consistent audio through your computers speakers/headphones such as music, video games, etc.The provided wrist rest doesn’t really attach to the board but rather rest in front of it. This is not too big of a deal in my opinion as my my keyboard is wired to my desktop and stays put.Overall, if you’re looking for a cheap keyboard with macro keys and you’re going to be playing video games, music, etc. and your computer is in an isolated room, I would recommend this. However, if your looking for something to replace the keyboard in your cubicle at work, I would suggest looking at other options. In that scenario specifically, I would suggest you look for a keyboard with red or brown switches

    Nice keyboard

This keyboard is a very nice low to mid budget mechanical keyboard. I find the keystrokes nice and audible enough to hear but not so loud as to be annoying or troublesome. The colors of the RGB are nice, but the options for the key colors are more limited than I like (the Ornata Chroma has a much nicer option set but at a considerable price difference). Though when I received the keyboard it had 2 small nicks in the body of the keyboard they do not cause any issues with the functionality and are only noticeable when searching for them or when the light catches them just right. Overall, I would recommend this keyboard for someone on a tight budget or that is new to the mechanical keyboard scene but not to someone who wants to have the extra bells and whistles and is willing to spend double the price for them. I have already posted 1 video about this keyboard on my YouTube channel (GreyWolf Towers) and will be posting a update soon since I have now been using it for a few weeks and feel I can make an informed review of it.Update (8/31/2019)I have figured out how to change the individual keys, so this keyboard is just as good as any other in the RGB functionality as well as the performance in gaming. I’m absolutely loving this keyboard and for the price it is a fantastic purchase. I’ll be buying another RedDragon keyboard when I need another keyboard.

Rage typing has never been so satisfying. Or so pretty.

Your browser does not support HTML5 video.

Okay so, this is my first experience with a mechanical keyboard. I went for blue switches because I thought I’d like the clicky keys. And oh, do I ever. It’s awesome for angry typing (if you’re one to do that, which I am). But it’s also beautiful. There are so many lighting options (preset ones) and then you can do custom ones in addition to them (which I haven’t yet tried, but probably will around Christmas). I’ve included a video that shows me playing with the presets (though I am not showing all of them by any means).I am using a setting that is pretty pastel colors and activates when you hit a key. It’s beautiful but less distracting than some of them. And of course, if backlighting isn’t your thing you can turn it off.I also really like that the letters won’t ever fade or rub off like they do on your typical keyboard. Plus, the font used on this keyboard feels very Star Trek-ish. Which the geek in me seriously digs.Honestly, this keyboard is one of the coolest things I own. But on top of looking cool, it’s so comfortable to use. I thought I’d have trouble adapting but I really haven’t. It’s also been easy on my carpal tunnel, so bonus.I’ve only had it about a month, but so far it’s definitely a 5 star product. If that changes down the road, I’ll update this review!

Very loud metal noise when you type

I bought this keyboard because it looked decent and was on sale.Pros:- Great mechanical keyboard feel- Cool RGB design / programming to itCons:-Has this really loud…aluminum hollow sound… I can’t put my finger on where it is coming from when I type. I think its coming from the very top portion of the keyboard because it is probably hollow around there.Because of this obnoxious sound, I will be giving it a 4/5 star review.Overall, If you are looking for a cheap mechanical keyboard and have great headphones I think you will be Fine with these because I cannot hear the hollow sound when I have my Bose headphones on.
