    Typical Microsoft product

The Xbox came and my fiance and I were so excited. I opened the box and immediately started to set up the xbox. What followed was a frustrating process of the Xbox informing me that I needed to update it before the Kinect would work, which I attempted to do after connecting it to my WiFi network. I was then in an endless loop of attempting to update the kinect but then being informed I needed to update xbox live first and having it go through the download and then tell me that it could not update with an error code. I then went online to diagnose the error code which the website did not recognize. I then attempted to contact Xbox customer service, which has two options: Community Ambassador-which is voluntary from other users and says it takes the least time, unfortunately I tried and found that no one came on the chat to answer my questions. I then attempted to chat with microsoft support which was unavailable for some unknown reason. After spending hours searching forums and googling how to solve the problem and having no luck, I gave up and sent the xbox back.I wont claim to be a hacker by any stretch but nor would I call myself a noob. Ive set up a numerous computer systems both Mac and PC, a playstation 3, and a Nintendo Wii and none of them were as unuserfriendly as the Xbox. In fact, every other system Ive used was a dream compared to this. A product shouldnt come out of the box needing updates to work and if it does, it shouldnt be a difficult proces. Dont waste your money on this POS, buy a Playstation or a Wii.

Great fun, but, limited games for Kinect

The other reviewers have covered the more technical area of this product, so I won’t go into that. The only reason I got an Xbox at all was because, I wanted Dance Central 2 for working out. I have to say this Kinect has been really fun and amazing.I had no problem at all setting it up. The only problem I have is using Xbox Live. If you live in a rural area and you have a satellite DSL internet connection (such as Hughesnet) you probably won’t want to use the Xbox live as it takes FOREVER to connect and/or download anything. I don’t have that problem as much with my Wii WiFi, so I don’t know what the problem is.If you are contemplating a Xbox or Wii for working out, I’d suggest the Xbox 360 with Kinect. I have the Wii (which I also love) and this system with the Kinect. I prefer the Kinect for workout games as your hands are free and you just overall have much more freedom. The only thing I can see being a problem is that most of the other games at this time for the Xbox Kinect are pretty much one note and games I personally wouldn’t be into. I really can’t see myself anyway playing any other game on this besides workout type games. Though, the longer the Kinect is around I’m sure that will change. If you are not interested in working out and are a more traditional gamer, I’d stick with Wii. My Wii is still my family’s go to for other types of more traditional gaming, though some of the Wii Resort games can be a small workout(boxing).Overall, if you are a gamer, you will be glad you got this. Plus, with all the great workout games available for Xbox Kinect, it will get you off your rear end and make it fun to get into shape.

Kinect isn’t ready; or is it the developers?

Kinect came out and promised a new era of gaming. Here were are 3 years later. Has anything really changed?I got news for Microsoft: If it was the developers that quality ground-breaking games haven’t come out for Kinect, what about Microsoft’s gaming studios?Where are the voice-interactive detective games?Which one non-party dancing/sports game has come out for the Kinect that got above-average ratings?Pros:Kinect is good for its price. It offers non-gamers a way to game with a huge learning curve.Sports/Party games are not as precise as the Wii nor Sony PS3’s Wand; however, fun, nevertheless. One of a kind, if you really don’t want to hold anything in your hand.Cons:Aside from party/sports titles, no real games.Frustrating as life to set-up and setup differs between game titlesLighting in the room, clothing you wear, size of room, all affect the performance of camera detection. Not child friendly by a long shot.Setup is hard/too frustrating for most adults. My kid gets tired of the ‘Kinect can’t see you’ message within the first five minutes. Daddy, I don’t wanna play this anymore, it keeps stopping.

    XBOX with Kinect is Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We received the XBOX this week and it is awesome!!! I cannot believe how good the kinect technology works. It tracks each arm, leg, hand, foot, and even your head. We ordered these kinects games: Power Up, kinectimals (with cats and bears, the newer one), Sports seasons one and two, and it came with Adventures. The set up was easy. Just a warning, if you want HD 1080p you will need to have your own HDMI cable. The unit comes with the standard RCA (white, red, and yellow) plugins and that will only give you 480p. You can select widescreen, but it is still 480p. When I used an HDMI cable (from one of my DVD players) the unit immediately sensed it and went to amazing 1080p. The kinect games are amazing. Power up is super fun, my kids love kinectimals. The adventures game really trains you how to use the kinect system and what move are possible. The unit has very good parental controls. Since I have a 6,8, and 10 yr old I locked out the M for Mature games and set the daily timer to 3hrs total (that they share) for the weekends. It was amazing to see the kids literally run our of breath and break a sweat playing the games. I bought the 4gb unit and it works fine. It has five USB ports with two facing the front of the unit. You can add up to 16gb with memory sticks this way. I do have WiFi in the house but did not activate this feature yet. I may not, since we do not really plan to play Live via the internet and already have Netflix with DVDs. In all, very satisfied and highly recommend this unit (bundled with kinects) to anyone.

Barebones – but in the bad kind of way

I bought this bundle like probably a lot of people to get quick access to some kinect dancing games. I previously owned several xbox 360’s that all failed, but I heard they resolved the issue with the latest ones so I gave it a shot. While the kinect and dance central 2 was fun for a while, it wore out its novelty and soon I wanted to start trying out other games. So I figure I can just go pick up some of the big xbox games to play like Halo 4. It’s a xbox game, and MS surely wouldn’t be stupid enough to sell a ton of consoles that can’t actually play their games right? Well that’s where I was wrong, because thanks to the paltry 4gb of storage space I couldn’t play Halo 4 multiplayer, Mass Effect 3, or any other game that requires enough space for even a moderate sized installation/download. I am told you can get around this by plugging in USB flash drive, but it’ll get formatted in the process and can’t be used for anything else. Nickle-and-diming has always been a MS policy with the controllers still requiring AA batteries instead of anything rechargeable like on competing products. Kind of ridiculous that you can’t watch Netflix or Hulu without paying for xbox live, and I wasn’t going to pay for Xbox live again when I couldn’t even play halo 4 multiplayer. It’s true what they say, you get what you pay for, and in this case you get half of the real xbox 360. At this point there’s no point in buying a 360 now, not until the prices drop after the new xbox one gets launched. The controller feels nice enough, and it runs quieter than the previous ones, but I still ended up with a console that can’t actually do its job. This definitely soured my experience with MS even further, and I would recommend anyone that’s checking out the xbox to check out Nintendo or the PS3. I’ve personally bought the PS3 after my 4th xbox 360 died of a RROD and I have been much happier for it. The Xbox 360 is a fine platform, and the one to go to if you want action-heavy games like Halo and Gears of War. But I’ve found that if you want the real games built around fantastic stories and excellent production values – you have to look at Sony with games like Last of Us and Heavy Rain or Nintendo with classics like Zelda.Based on my long history with Microsoft consoles (owned the first Xbox and now 5 xbox 360’s) – steer clear of them until they get their game together. Once they start putting the consumer first again and stop trying to squeeze more money out of you at every turn I’ll give them another look. Until then don’t bother.

    Good All Around

First, let me review the XBOX 360 Slim. Prior to purchasing this I had owned 2 of the original XBOX 360s (bought the first, and Microsoft sent me a refurbished one when mine got the red ring of death). The Slim version is MUCH better than the original. The original one sounded like a jet engine when running with all the fans at full speed; the slim one is extremely quiet. The original would get very hot and raise the temperature in the room by a few degrees when running for an extended period of time; the slim runs pretty cool, and does not noticeably heat up the room. The slim version is smaller than the original. The slim version has built in wireless. And a few other minor improvements. Now on to the Kinect. One reason I purchased a Kinect was that I have a pretty sedentary life. I sit in front of a computer most of the day, and I play video games and watch TV at night. I was hoping that the Kinect would motivate me to move around more and get some exercise without breaking up my routine. I haven’t owned it long enough to verify that I will use it over the long term, but in the short term, I believe I will use it often. As for the exercise, after playing it for an hour I was sweaty and tired, and the next morning, my muscles were pretty sore. It certainly requires a lot more movement than sitting in a chair with a controller, and I am pleased that I found doing it to be pretty fun (which is good since I abhor exercise in general).A lot of people are concerned about space requirements, but I find them to be very reasonable. I was worried about buying it because I live in an apartment, and I was going to set this up in a small room with a lot of furniture. However, I haven’t had any problems. The Kinect sensor senses your “workspace” when setting it up, and it seems to know where I have to stop moving because it doesn’t require me to go out of my furniture boundaries. I stand about 6-7 feet away from the Kinect sensor, and have about 1.5 arm lengths of space in front and to each side (no room behind me). With that, I am able to do everything required in the Kinect Adventures game without any issue. My largest problem is that Kinect Adventures wants you to do a lot of jumping. I live on the second floor of an apartment, so jumping is out of the question. I’ve found that if you squat down a little and stand up quickly on to the tip of your toes and shrug all at the same time, it recognizes that as a jump. It takes a little practice to get the hang of that, but once you do, it works while preserving the sanity of any downstairs neighbors.Next, the Kinect Adventures game. As someone who likes to play a lot of action games (Call of Duty, Halo, et cetera), I don’t find the premise to be my cup of tea, but it’s still fun. It seems to implement the Kinect sensor pretty well, and I think it’s a good demonstration of what the Kinect can do. That being said, I don’t think I’ll be playing a lot of it once I get some other Kinect games. And a final note. If you intend to use the Kinect with an older XBOX 360, or to use it on a computer, you will need a “Kinect Sensor Power Supply.” If you buy the Kinect standalone, it comes with one. I assumed that the bundle would come with one as well. It does not. I had to purchase it separately from the Microsoft Store for $34.99. Not too big of a deal, and I understand Microsoft’s leaving it out, but it would have been nice to know.

Great Vendor Experience – Excellent Product

This game set was everything and more than I expected. For a reasonable price it included the Kinect equipment and all power cords. It has both a remote and a wired Controller. As a used console and parts, I had my doubts about if it would even work. With very little effort I set it up and have been very happy with it. This particular order did not include original packaging or any set up instructions but they were easily available online. They are very intuitive anyway. My order came with one game – but the vendor included a second one free when I contacted him prior to purchase about concerns with buying a used set. Vendor response and delivery time was excellent. THANK YOU! My grandsons, 4 and 8, love to play the other used games I purchased through a local game store. They, of course, are also used but most are very inexpensive. One thing to note – with the used console and used games – initial set up requires a system update or two. Each new game also usually requires a system update first time played, which is easily accomplished as the console is on the internet. Each game update, after the initial system one (which took a total of maybe 90 minutes) takes just a minute or two. Very happy with the product which I shopped for specifically because the Kinect games uses player’s body movements to play the games! Other Xbox 360 games also work with use of the controllers. I have since purchased a charger for the remote Controller and now have about 10 games.

Great gift for the husband, but the kids (and even I) love it!

I bought this for my husband as an anniversary present, and of course he was stoked to be able to play all the cool games with it. (Hello, Madden?) I also bought a bunch of games the kids would like, like Disneyland Kinect, and let em tell you, this thing is amazing. The Wii is a distant memory now. I like how it is voice activated for some features, so you call out what you want it to do rather than try to hold your hand still long enough over the hand symbol for the time it takes to “load” that setting. (Yeah… that feature and I don’t get along.) Still, this system is incredible. Of course it will still play any of the older X-Box games, or DVD’s/CD’s, and you can expand with an external hard drive to store game memory without bogging this one down. I even bought one of these for my parents as a gift because they love it so much. You can’t get me to pick up the gaming remote to play a game, but I’m always up for some MJ dancing or Disneyland Kinect.

Outstanding deal for like new console & kinect

This is such an awesome deal, this shipped from Amazon Warehouse (prime + return option) in like new condition for $92. It came with the Xbox 360, a controller, the kinect system and the bundled game with all accessories and everything in it’s original box. It looks new. Everything works and was easy to setup. So cool being able to control the console without a controller just using kinect. Great deal! Bought it for the kids really, but honestly, all this for less than $100 just blows my mind. Time to grab some used games and another controller and call it good for cheap. If anyone wanted a great console for cheap for kids and adults, this is the way to go!
