Not the same but it’s okay

PowerA Nintendo Switch Joy-Con comfort grip is a Nintendo licensed product. At first glance it looks like the original comfort grip, but it isn’t. It’s a little wider in the middle, has plastic tracks to slide the joycon into, has a rubber grip, and has bumps on the back where your forefinger sits. The plastic tracks is a little disappointing, but for $10 I can’t complain. However, the left side is really difficult to slide the joycon into. It is so difficult, that I do not want to try for fear of damaging the fine plastic pieces on the joycon itself. This is a serious issue with the joycon which is why I chose to return it. I hope that this issue will be resolved soon because this is a Nintendo licensed product. Also, this comfort grip does not plug in anywhere, similar to the original.

    Compared to Nintendo’s Grip

PowerA’s Joy-Con grip is different from Nintendo’s pack-in grip that comes with the Switch. Some features are better, some worse, some just different. The price is great – I got mine for under $7.It’s got rubberized, larger palm swell grips. The space between the joy-cons is wider, and does not have the Switch logo. The joy-con rails are plastic and not metal. The trigger area is shaped differently, giving you an additional finger-rest area below the Z triggers. The bottom of the grip, where your fingers rest, is boxier than Nintendo’s.It’s heavier than Nintendo’s.I personally prefer the Nintendo one, because of both the metal rails and because I’m used to the feel of it. For the price, though, this is a good value.

Fits in hands well, but might cause an issue for players with big hands.

I have to say the quality of this joycon grip is well made. I got this as an extra for when friends come over. It’s is bigger than the one the switch comes with and the material makes it easier to hold. However, if you have big hands then there is the issue of when your index fingers rest on the ZL and ZR buttons. The little indents on the top back corners will push on your index fingers if you have them to close together, becoming uncomfortable from constantly pushing on your fingers when you click the triggers. Not a deal breaker, but you should keep your index fingers further apart to avoid them being poked.I would give this product 5 stars had it not been for the sharp corners on the back.

Durable, great value, better design than the originals

Purchased two of these once I had several Joy Cons for the family, and wanted the option of additional Joy Grips that weren’t pricey. These work very well for the $10.They’re the same basic shell that the original Grip that comes with the console is, but I actually like these better. The handgrips themselves feel more ergonomic, and they’re curved more naturally to fit players’ hands. I actually took photos comparing the original to this product, which is pictured on the left in both photos.Getting the controllers in one of the grips was a little tighter the first few times, and there was a moment where I was nervous that it would break, but once it found the track, it was fine, and it came back out easily, so it may have just been stiff since it was brand new.The green player number lights work fine, synced easily, no issues at all with that. The materials also feel very sturdy, and I haven’t had to worry about them feeling flimsy or breakable. My eight year old even dropped one on concrete and it did just fine, even with the controllers place, so plus there for durability.Overall, quite happy with these. They’re a great value for the price.

    Cheaper than original

Not a bad product, but a little cheap. I wouldn’t have minded paying a few dollars more for the original, but it seems they do not sell it anymore, anywhere.Differences from the one that came with the switch (do they now include this one in the newer switches?)-Plastic rail vs metal-Left Joycon sticks a bit, harder to get on and off-Due to design it is harder to press the release buttons on joycons once placed on grip-The back grip is rough instead of smooth (this is actually a plus for me, and seems to be the only pro versus original)Considering the price and that is has yet to fail, I don’t think it warrants less than 4 stars. I’ll update the review if it breaks or causes damage to the joycons.

Great Product, But Might Leave a Little Bit of Quality to be Desired

IF you have big or even average sized American male (or female) hands, this item may be of interest to you. I found the official Nintendo Joy-Con grip felt a bit small in my hands, and after a few hours of gaming, would leave my hands starting to hurt due to the awkwardly small grip. These on the other hand are a fantastic fit. They aren’t huge, but they are a much more comfortable grip than the original Nintendo grip.My only gripe with them is minor quality control issues. I have two of these grips. The red grip fits the Joy-Cons into it like they were always meant to be there. The black grip, while feeling great while using is a bit more awkward. I feel like with the left side Joy-Con I have to use a slight bit of force to dock it. It’s nothing crazy, but just enough to be an annoyance. Also these, probably to keep the cost down, decided to go with plastic rails vs metal rails for the Joy-Cons to dock into. They work just fine, but it definitely doesn’t feel quite the same as docking your Joy-Cons into the official Nintendo grip. All that being said, if you find your hands cramping after a few hours of gaming, awkwardly holding the Nintendo grip, these are well worth your money for a much more comfortable gaming experience.

Price definitely makes it worth it.

I like the way the grip feels more than the Nintendo brand ones. For whatever reason the left you joycon has trouble sliding in, but not really a big deal. The rails are plastic instead of metal, but that doesn’t seem to be much of an issue.

Great third party grip for the price

The controller grip gets the job done at a decent savings. This grip is an officially licensed Nintendo accessory manufactured by a third party. Nothing at all wrong with this, I’ve been buying third party accessories since the original NES launched. The grip tracks that the Joy-Cons slide into are plastic, not a metal track like the one sold by Nintendo. I am giving this a 4 star review because the grip serves its purpose however, there is one flaw. I feel there is a bit of a flaw with the design tolerance with left Joy-Con track. The left track is a snug fit (after a few days of removing/inserting it is loosening up) and takes a bit of effort to insert and remove the left Joy-Con. The right slides right in and out with very little effort while still keeping the controller locked in place. I like this much better than the Nintendo version. Is the tight fit worth returning or not buying? No, I’d buy another if I needed another grip because the grip still works and it saved me a few dollars.

    Prefer it over original!

This grip is a little larger and fits better in adult hands. It’s more ergonomic than the original and fits a little more comfortably. Kids shouldn’t have an issue with it either since it’s smaller than most other controllers. Will buy again if I purchase another set of joy-cons, but it’s unlikely at $80 a pop.

Don’t be fooled, complete garbage compared to the original

Honestly, PowerA should be totally ashamed and voluntarily recall every one of these. It may look like the authentic Joy-Con Grip, but it isn’t. The design, comfort, aesthetics, construction, and materials of this unit are all vastly inferior. I don’t know what sort of idiot decided to put those flattened “supports” on the back, nor the useless and uncomfortable lightly textured plastic, but those combined with the more bulbous handles make this thing basically unusable compared to the original Nintendo Grip. The only reason I’m giving two stars instead of one is because the product arrived in one piece and technically does work.
