Requires Razer Synapse…
Well, this keyboard works great, BUT the lighting is horrible. You need to run Razer Synapse to get rid of the annoying pulsing stock setting. This program adds a significant load to the system and drops framerates. You cannot turn the lights on or off without the use of the Synapse program. I wouldn’t recommend this keyboard. So many better ones out there for better deals.

Great all around keyboard at a reasonable price
I bought this to replace a Red Dragon mechanical keyboard I had been using, and I’m loving it. The keys feel extremely stable in comparison, with none of the wobbliness I experienced on other boards. Each press results in a loud, satisfying click and the amount of force required feels just right. No accidental key presses but still very easy to type smoothly.Playing games and tying are both easy and comfortable and the whole keyboard feels solid and well designed. The backlighting is green-only but it looks good and you can adjust the intensity. There are a lot of other macro options and things with the Razer software but I haen’t done much with those yet.

Great quality, bad lighting
This is a well made cheap(er) alternative for mechanical keyboard, however the catch is you are required to run synapse 3 in the background to change the default breathing effect, which would be fine if it didn’t hog so much memory. My only suggestion if you don’t want a huge performance hit is to turn the back light off, and not run synapse. Other than that, great quality keyboard.

CLICKY CLICKY
CLICKY CLICKY CLICKY – OMG I love it! My ADHD digs this keyboard. I don’t need to click a pen while I think, I just keep typing. It makes me want to do more work. Completely satisfying. Great keyboard. I can’t say much for gaming purposes but for typing? A++++++

Heavy duty, clicky keyboard
I really enjoy using this keyboard, very hefty and loud (in a good way). Ergonomically it fees great with no wrist ache after an hour of use, like my standard dell keyboard would do.Definitely recommend!

The BlackWidow Essential was more of a downgrade than I’d bargained for! (Could have been perfect!)
Amazon seems to combine reviews for multiple similar products, so let me mention that I am specifically reviewing the “BlackWidow Essential Mechanical Gaming Keyboard” (model RZ03-02630200-R3U1). I bought this keyboard to replace my 2016-era BlackWidow Ultimate, which was a great board until my ‘A’ key gave out, but had several features I never used (left-side macro keys and audio/USB passthrough ports). Anyway, hardware-wise the Essential is still great: Nice bright backlights, satisfying & fast clicky keys, all of the essential keys and functions. But my problems started the moment I plugged the thing into my computer: The default backlighting mode for this keyboard is “Breathing”, where the keys very slowly get brighter and then fade out to darkness. This is a pretty idiotic default, since a person like me who buys backlit keyboards because I work in dark environments and I REQUIRE the backlights in order to see the keys, why in the heck would I want them to keep fading away? I understand making it an OPTION perhaps for showroom use, but the default mode of operation? (First star subtracted.) So, I knew that Razer Synapse had lighting options, so I downloaded and installed it, and located the “Static” lighting option to make the backlights stay lit. Cool, right? Well I locked my keyboard to go have lunch and immediately discovered my keyboard reverted to “Breathing” mode. I logged back in and it reverted to Static mode. “Hmm.” I thought, before rebooting Windows where, as I suspected, I found that the keyboard was sitting there in Breathing mode again while my computer sat at the login screen. You see- the Razer software settings only apply when you are logged into Windows while the software is installed and running. (Second star subtracted.) Something that’s apparently unique to the “Essential” keyboard: It has no onboard profile settings; so you can’t use Synapse to create a profile that’s stored on the board in absence of Synapse; that’s why the keyboard requires the software. Anyway, I was at first convinced that there must be SOME way to force the keyboard into permanent Static mode without needing to install the Synapse software, so I submitted a support ticket that explained very succinctly and clearly what I wanted: “How can I keep the backlit keys in Static mode all the time, and without Synapse?” Their response (after several days), was to tell me to update my firmware, sending me a link that only works on two specific BlackWidow models, not the BlackWidow Essential- despite the fact that I mentioned both the model name and number in my initial request. (Third star subtracted for brain-dead support.) I’m a big fan of Razer’s mouse and keyboard hardware, but a peripheral that can’t function correctly without having some lame software installed doesn’t belong in my rig.

Great Quality. But missing lightning effects.
The keyboard is solid, it feels very good and the keys are 10/10, however, the lightning effects are poor. Just static and breathing. I think razer could implement more effects on this keyboard, specially because it need synapse 3.

Click.Click.Click
It feels nice and sturdy. Mine arrived with the space bar detached and I had to struggle a bit to put it back in place, but once I manged to put it back (quite easy) it hasn’t given me any issues.
