Razer’s new Green Swtiches are incredible! Clicky Click liker cherry blue’s with awesome LEDs

Razer BlackWidow X Chroma. I have to say, this is possibly the best keyboard I have ever used. I love the RBG lighting effect, the clicky sound of the newly revamped Razer green switches is something I definitely cannot live without; they sound almost identical to MX cherry blues. Once you go blue, you can never type on a non clicky keyboard again. Razer recently changed their switch supplier and has made incredible strides in terms of quality and performance.I actually returned my Corsair K70 RGB keyboard because I couldn’t stand how terrible the clicks were. I actually made a mistake when I was at the store buying it; I confused the key-switch ‘click’ with the actual key bottoming out. Corsair used a grey style switch which gave a ‘tactile’ response; tactile means mushy to me. I prefer a clean ‘snap’ of the switches. As far as this keyboard goes, here is what I love about it:- Awesome clicky keys- Heavy, strong built metal frame- Incredible RGB’s (better than my Corsair K70 lights ever were)- Smoothly, light, and crisp keystrokes- Cable management trenches in the back of the keyboardHere is what I didn’t particularly like:- No wrist pad; I have seen some Razer products with magnetic wrist pads and that would’ve been awesome- Super small font on some keys, making the RGBs more difficult to see (the ‘alt’ button has very minimal light that passes through, but I would still consider the RGB effect to be much better than competition)The price for this is also very fair. For about $100 dollars, you get the best RGB’s in the market with switches that go head-to-head with the legendary cherry mx blues; how can you beat that? Other manufacturers will typically be much higher, and I don’t think there is any price that can compare to this quality. But really, this is by far my most fun keyboard to use, code, type, and game with. In fact, I’m writing this review with it right now, this has been my longest review of a product I have ever written.. coincidence? I think not! :)I have a Das Pro also, but I use that one for work. I would have to rank them nearly the same in terms of typing performance. They Das pro is a little bit better in terms of keystroke performance, but not by much. BUT, the Das pro doesn’t have LEDs. Which is why I use the Das Pro at work while keeping the Razer BlackWidow X Chroma at home.I really enjoy this keyboard, I made the switch to mechanical boards about a year ago and to be honest, it changes my perspective. I love this keyboard, and I’m sure you will too!!!!If anything quality related happens, I will be sure to update this post as to what happened.(Note: for the picture, I did purchase some PBT white plastic keycaps which really seem to help the RGB’s shine through even more!!!!)

My 2nd Razer Keyboard and My Favorite

I upgraded from a refurbished Razer Blackwidow Chroma Ultimate that developed a finicky D key after a few years.Things I like about this one: the color is pretty amazing. The white keys really help to show off the individual key colors, and the metal base is sturdy and weighty so it won’t go scooting across your desk. Keys are nice and clicky and have a comfortable amount of travel. The keys are also not surrounded by a shell/housing like previous keyboards, which makes this MUCH easier to keep clean. Honestly, that’s the biggest selling point to me.Things I don’t like about this one: My last one had a usb port on the right hand side so I could plug in the mouse/base for my mouse. This one doesn’t have that. However, that also means that the cord going to the back of the computer isn’t as big since there is only one connection. Also there are no macro keys along the side on this one, but I didn’t use them much, so it’s not a big deal for me. Mentioning it in case it matters to other folks.Easily the best keyboard I’ve owned over the years.

Static Shock to metal case causes LEDs to short out so far temporarily…

I love this keyboard so much! let me just get that out there. It feels great, looks great, sounds great. However I feel like its biggest flaw, though I hate to say it because I like the weight the metal casing gives but every time I touch the side of the metal casing, and I have a static charge built up I short out half the keyboards LEDs I just recently figured out that it was due to static, I thought at first the keyboard was shorting out by itself, was going to return it (and still might…)…but i can actually rub my socked feet on the carpet and touch the side again to “undo” the damage (or likely cause more) and the keyboard will turn off then back on with all its lights. Its better than restarting my computer or unplug/replug the USB, which was the only way I could get the keyboards lights to all light up again before I realized what was causing the shorts.

or the one recommend which usually includes a mouse and keyboard for rather …

Most people probably take their keyboard for granted. They use the one that came with their computer, or the one recommend which usually includes a mouse and keyboard for rather cheap. It is a basic item that everyone using a computer needs, but many don’t put much thought in to.After using a Razer BlackWidow Ultimate 2013 for a few years I felt like I needed more… and RGB. Browsing the local big blue store, I had several options in front of me. I played with Logitech’s new and amazing insert awesome name here keys, but I didn’t really like them. I had heard about Razer’s new green switch, but unfortunately was not able to try it as they did not have any in the store. I am a fan of the Cherry MX Blue switches, and after doing plenty of research, and a few YouTube videos to hear a comparison, I took the plunge and went with the Razer BlackWidow X Chroma. I really wanted a keyboard without the top cover on it as I like the way the light bleeds out. I wasn’t thrilled about going with black, but there aren’t a ton of options out there right now, and that desire was pretty low on my list. I went with the X version as it gave me the absence of the top cover, just like I wanted. My only concern was using the green switches without ever having tried them myself. A few days later this keyboard shows up at my door and I must say, I am really impressed. The Razer green switches do not leave me wanting in comparison to the Cherry Blue switches. The material and construction are top notch, and the RGB lighting is on point. The whole keyboard feels sturdy and well built, which is expected at this price point. If you are looking for what this keyboard has to offer, do not hesitate. This will not disappoint!

    Very, very good.

I’ve gone through many keyboards before this one, and this one is my favorite. In the case someone actually reads this it’s quite likely that you are comparing this to other gaming keyboards. Allow me to answer some of your questions. I have been through the Blackwidow chroma v1, corsair k95 platinum, razer blackwidow v2 (green switches), k70 mk.2 se (speed switches), and now this. The blackwidow v1 should by now have updated razer switches where they’re not kailh any longer, so in that case if you are a fan of that blocky gamer font and want those macro keys with the passthroughs, go for it. Personally, I’m not the biggest fan of the font and the audio passthroughs aren’t necessary unless you’re on a laptop or something without access to those. For the corsair k95 platinum, I’d recommend it only if you are a big fan of brown switches and don’t mind the blocky gamer font with the insane price tag, the media keys and usb passthrough came in handy though (that this keyboard doesn’t have which is the only thing I kinda miss). The blackwidow v2 is basically this keyboard with a usb passthrough and with a wrist rest, but I will say that the keycaps feel worse quality and also it’s not offered in white, which is why I bought the X. The mk.2 is nice for people who want cherry switches and they get the whole spectrum of choices from that keyboard, so it’s hard to not recommend it, but in my case I wanted it in white so I was forced to get the speed switches (only switch available for the se) and I missed the click. So here I am, at the page for a clicky white keyboard with honestly a higher quality build in certain areas, such as the spacebar. The spacebar on the mk.2 rattles so bad it’s honestly terrible, especially for a $170m keyboard.

    Amazing quality for Razer

I understand and will not dispute the issues Razer has had with their keyboards in the past. Especially the annoying BlackWidow Chroma which had keys that got stuck internally. However, this keyboard really improves both aesthetically and quality wise. The BlackWidow Chroma was made of plastic with matte black paint that wasn’t appealing to the majority (however, I thought it looked nice). This, however, is aluminum with matte black painting. Much like the K70, the switches are raised above the keyboard and help with cleaning A LOT. I also prefer this visually, as the keys don’t shine off the white back that the majority of backlit keyboards have, but it just looks nicer. It looks more professional without the stupid gamer font that the BlackWidow Chroma had. The BlackWidow X actually looks very professional and doesn’t immediately say “GAMER!” like a lot of main brand mechanical keyboards that are backlit (looking at you, Logitech). All in all, a huge step-up from Razer. But I still would’ve liked to see an improvement on the functionality based keys, of course. The lack of a volume knob is a bit annoying, especially with the FN macros pressing actual buttons in games (Volume up presses B for example). But, I digress. Wonderfully built keyboard, doesn’t feel cheap like the BlackWidow Chroma, yada yada overall quite impressed by the quality Razer managed to bring to the table.

    Questionable accompanying software

I was fine with this keyboard until a recent Razer update suggested installation of their crypto mining software. Yes it’s optional but it’s very concerning to me that they would even consider pushing this out to their users. If I hadn’t carefully read the details, it would install software that would use my gpu to mine crypto currency in the background. While they do pay you with Razer merchandise credits, there is a cap on how much you can accrue and the cost of electricity looks more than the credits are worth. Razer lost a lot of trust from me on this one. When I install drivers for my keyboard I don’t want to worry about potentially opting into a crypto mining agreement.

Good keyboard, but is it worth the price?

Came in today. Will update after a year of use and see how quality stands up to a k70 rgb corsair (which lasted years and is still going)Cons:1.Keys are wobbly; a little too wobbly for me. Not noticeable while using the keyboard but only when i actually look and move the keys around.2. No volume control (arguably necessary for form factor)3. Clicky aspect of the keys feels weird when pressed very slowly. I don’t notice it when i’m actually using it normally. I’ve realized I would rather use their tactile but silent keys (i think orange) over these green switches. But i still enjoy the sound I guess, but it is a little pointless for me. The clickiness already from, for example, a k70 rgb is clicky enough without an extra clicky actuation.4. Space bar is kind of loud, different obvious sound to the rest of the keys.Pros:1. RGB is better imo than corsair’s.2. I’m a sucker for the design (bought this keyboard almost strictly for the white)3. Quickly accustomed to it, can type 90+ wpm with little errors straight out of the box (this might just mean i’m used to the key distance or irrelevant point)Bottom line, the keyboard is “good enough” for my use. I mainly bought this keyboard for the aesthetics. Clickiness & keys feel a little cheap, so is it worth 115$ ? Arguably so. Buying my k70 rgb 3+ years ago, it was well over 150$. I would recommend this keyboard, unless the tactile feedback is what you don’t want.

    LOVE the look

LOVE the look! I always wanted a blackwidow but never bit the bullet to buy it. I immediately decided to purchase it when I saw there’s a white one. So far it had been working perfectly, except for the times Synapse wouldn’t work. The color in the first pic is a bit off since I have a yellow light bulb. The second one is more accurate.Make sure you download the newest Synapse software for things like overwatch chroma colors. It’s awesome!I use it intensively for work, on Pro Tools (audio software if you don’t know). I have macros programmed on it, and linked Pro Tools to the profile. As long as Synapse doesn’t bug out, it’s been running perfectly. As mentioned, the Synapse software does sometimes mess up. I absolutely hate when I’m in full screen game and the app just stops working, making my whole keyboard unusable… Normally it’ll work if I close the app down but in full screen mode, sometimes it’s not an option since sometimes you need to press a key to use cursor… What I did was hook up another keyboard just to exit out of the game. Try reinstall the software if it randomly stops working. There’s really nothing else you can do as they are still trying to develop the software.

RAZER NOT Honoring their own warranty!!!

Very disjointed with customer support and how they handled my case. Spend $140 for keyboard and lasted only 18 months, and that’s because of the latest software upgrade from RAZER. I still have 3 months of warranty left, but they won’t honor it since i bought it from Amazon third party. It shouldn’t matter who I purchase it from as long as its new. Very unfair and I Am replacing all my RAZER gear with Logitech. I will NEVER recommend RAZER to my gaming community. Imagine if you purchased a $3K laptop from them and they treat you like this> I have a case number if it intrusts anyone to read several days of emails
