Good external hard drive for a ps4

Its a good drive for the price. 4 terabytes is quite a bit of space for games. I would think you should be fine unless you buy ALOT of games, like if you review games on a podcast or youtube or something. You just plug it into a USB port and then format the drive under “storage,” in your menu and set it as the default location for games. This is all very easy to do, even if you’re not PS4 or computer savvy. We haven’t noticed any huge difference in load times between the USB drive and the internal drive. The only issue we ran into was our 5 year old accidentally bumped the USB cord with her foot during a game and it crashed the game. So the USB connection does seem to be very sensitive. As long as the PS4 is on a stable surface away from little toes, you’ll be fine.

Just stopped working, and took all of our games down with it.

I’ve been meaning to write this review for a while. I got this as a Christmas present for my fiancé, so he could actually play some new games with our son. It was great while it worked. But it only worked about 4 months before it crashed, and now we cannot access ANY of our games that we bought through the PlayStation. So yeah, out of a ton of money in games, and the price of this piece of crap. I saw this being an issue on another review, but figured that it has other, positive, reviews. Don’t be fooled, and don’t waste your money on this thing! I guess at least they made it good enough to last the month you have to return things. …

Drive failure 32 days after purchase

I purchased this drive 32 days ago for my Xbox One and it decided to have a fatal error. Of course it won’t show that on the Xbox and you have to jump through some fun hoops to figure out why all your data isn’t showing up and is gone for good namely connecting to a PC. Unfortunately this wasn’t in the return window for Amazon so I had to go directly to Western Digital for replacement who then charged for shipping for the return. Fortunately the rep helping me waived the shipping fee because I was going to be very frustrated with having a hard drive fail, losing all my data, and then having to pay to get it fixed such a short time after purchase. As for the drive working before failure-it did fine and as expected. Unfortunately that didn’t last.

    ?

I have never needed to call for tech support help with this! Ps4 pro insists it be directly plugged into ps4 pro! Ps4 pro software insists that only one usb storage device can be used as exstra exsternal storage device only…which means only one WD gaming hard drive can be used at a time with ps4 pro! So i’m using one wd gaming drive now! Good news at least it works & at least its being used!

    Lost hopes

Read a lot of good reviews about this product so I bought 4T in a heartbeat. Bought this product in January 2019 because I’ve been playing lots of games, but recently i’ve been getting a lot of errors. Lost all of the data I’ve stored and I can’t get them all back. I’m so disappointed that I’ve spent all of my time saving everything in this extended storage to all of a sudden be corrupted for no reason. I’ve tried repairing it and it still can’t be recognized. Neither can my computer for reformatting. I’ve asked people who I know are gamers and could fix their consoles/extended storage data. Initialized my PS4 so it can accept this extended storage, but still nothing. Now I have to start all over again LOL.Long story short — I’m most likely to buy another storage data. But I’m so afraid to do it because it’s so expensive. I don’t want to go through this again. If you’re a gamer, honestly, buy the lowest storage first and see how it’s doing. You’ll never know what happens after a couple of months.

So far so good w/ heavy use!connected anyways since I only have 2 ports and I

Update: I have had it for a year and a half and it’s still running strong, getting used constantly every day. I’m not too proud to admit that it’s had a few falls as I have been trying some different mobile set ups. I need my music most all say every day and I have too much for my laptop, so I keep it on here and stream from my computer to my phone (UPNP media server – foobar app/desktop software, completely free).I noticed with several computers that it has problems connecting unless it runs through my Anker USB hub (pretty sure it’s been that way from the start). I swear that hub is magic. I always have that hub connected anyways since I only have 2 ports and I love the extension it provides. Any time you have USB connection problems, try a different cable and/or a good hub.—————————————-I don’t play around when it comes to my data, if a drive seems off in anyway, I will return it and dump the brand usually. I have experience with data loss. The 1st time it happened was with SanDisk and I really have never trusted them again. That was my 1st lesson in having backups for your backups.I will admit it, I am a digital hoarder and have way too much data, but it’s a lifetime of buildup. I went to WD 4TB external back in like 2014? I think I had some issues, but not complete failure. I do however have a WD internal drive that I upgraded my 2009 MacBook a long time ago and it’s still running strong. I gave Fantom drives a shot for my main backups that stay locked up, they seem to be ok too.I got this one for my daily use. I have a lot of intensive programs on my computer that take up a lot of space, but I also have a ton of music and educational videos that I use for school that just filled up my drive. Having a big bulky drive around everywhere was just not feasible. I gave this guy a shot, not for gaming, but for daily usage. Everything on this drive is backed up, but this one goes with me everywhere and gets used daily, travels a lot. I fully expect it to fail, b/c I’m paranoid, but it hasn’t yet, and if/when it does I will update it here and let you know.Until then, this thing looks good, works well and does what I need. It’s my traveling media drive that I constantly have plugged in to listen to my large music collection built up over the years. Over 2 months strong, I’m feeling good (knock on wood). I don’t have a case for it, I try to baby it when I move it around, but it does travel in my backpack so it gets some jolts here and there, but she’s doing well!

    Perfect, portable external storage.

Got it for the PS4 external storage (which is almost as easy as plug-and-play alone), ended up using it for my laptop & external photography & video backups. It’s the perfect little drive. It doesn’t come with a case so you’ll have to find a way to keep it relatively safe as well as near the data cable itself, but that doesn’t affect the product itself, which is otherwise inherently flawless. It even looks good, albeit that’s personal.

Buyer Beware! Done in Less Than a Year!

I was very excited for the value and performance of this item when I first got it. Extremely easy to format, and it was good to go right out of the package. The reviews are a little misleading because I honestly think to give this product an honest assessment, it needed to be given some time. I bought this external hard drive on March 2019. Everything was fine up until November 2019, when I noticed that I was always getting prompted to repair my external storage. That was manageable considering I was still able to access my external hard drive’s content. I followed the All of the online advice, rebuilding the database, restarting, etc… up until today, Feb 2020. Less than a year from purchase, I’ve reformatted this hard drive every time I turned on my PS4 because the console does not recognize it anymore. I’ve lost all my saved content on the hard drive. Safe to say, that the external hard drive has reached the end of it’s life, and I’ve reached the end of my patience. The value got me excited, but I feel that there might be better ones out there that’s got better longevity.

Also works on PS4, Android, etc. It’s just a regular hard drive, nothing makes it exclusive to MS.

Works fine on my PS4; however, as with most hard drives, is not a full 2tb — it’s 1.49tb, which is still damn good for the price I paid.
