    i really like this keyboard

Your browser does not support HTML5 video.

i really like this keyboard. im typing the review up on it right now and its absolutely delightful. its hard to describe exactly what is so nice about these sorts of keyboards relative to the normal rubber dome types, its kind of something you need to try for yourself to understand. best i can compare it to is like a power switch on like old tv’s where you pressed it in and you could feel it clicking into an on position, imagine that sort of tactile feeling on every single keystroke. its amazing. the board is really solid, it doesnt flex at all, and is fairly weighty for its size. the feet on the back are really nice too, they snap up and down with authority and have nice rubber feet on them, there is no way this will move around on your desk unless you deliberately move it. the colored lights are a nice gimmick if youre into that sort of thing, i have mine on the setting where they light up everytime you press a key which i think is probably the least distracting while still being sort of interesting.now onto the cons, its very loud, louder than i was even expecting and i was expecting it to be loud! louder than the old ibm keyboards you may remember as a child. definitely the loudest keyboard ive ever used in my life. the whole keyboard is very bare bones, if you took the cover off a normal keyboard and just had the innards exposed thats sort of what you have here with the entire key and switch assembly mounted onto the surface. the backplate turns into a reflector essentially transmitting out as much sound as possible. its fine for me, but i could imagine it would be really annoying to anyone else if you have to share your living space. the key caps themselves arent the best either, theyre thin plastic and very low contrast at least on the white model i got, im not crazy about the font either but its not like you look at them often while youre actually using it. also one of the big pros of the form factor is the lack of the numpad, but i keep finding myself missing that. holding down control and hitting the plus sign to change the scale of the font is something that i didnt realize how much i used until i didnt have it. the numpad is also just way superior for inputting numbers, and after using it for so many years im very bad at using the top row for doing anything but 1-5. i didnt detract a point for that though but its something to consider if your making the leap to mechanical at the same time as switching to 10 keyless. the reason im giving it only 4 stars is because the one i got was somewhat dinged up on arrival. i put up pictures to show how one side has a bend in the tip of the aluminum plate, its not a big deal because you can barely tell while using it, but the box was in perfect condition on arrival so it had to happen somewhere at the factory. not worth the hassle of returning for something so inconsequential, but qc might be a concern with these.you can see how long this is getting though, and the keyboard really does make it such that every key press is fun. so overall its great for the price, provided you can live with the noise.

    Great Value Gaming Keyboard

Your browser does not support HTML5 video.

This is a great keyboard for anyone looking for a new gaming keyboard. It is a 87 key, meaning that it does not have a number pad, but this saves a ton of space on the side of the keyboard and makes it feel almost most like a gaming controller rather than a keyboard. It is pretty responsive and have no issues with ghosting or keys not being pressed. The key caps are all nice ABS plastic and should hold up to some abuse. The keys and the switches can both be replaced and there are a couple replacements included in the box. The keys have a slight swoop on them which makes typing smooth and reduces stress on your fingers. The keyboard construction is very solid. It is full metal and can really take a beating. I rage quit, and smashed this thing against my desk with zero repercussions. This thing should last for a while. The lighting is pretty decent and has a ton of modes available to type with. It does get pretty bright so I tend to keep it on the second to highest setting. It is a chroma keyboard so each key can light up any color. There is no defined colors for key rows making personalization easy.Overall this keyboard is a joy to type on. I liked it so much, I actually just returned this one to get the bigger model so I can use it for daily typing and not just gaming. Very impressed by these new value mechanical keyboards.

    Great product, would buy again!

got keyboard in today, it definitely is mechanical and it sure is loud! no complaints here, anyone who has used a mechnical keyboard knows that is just how it goes, functionality wise the keyboard is amazing. The leds are bright, nice colors, aluminum finish feels high quality, the cable is very durable, the different light modes are nice but I prefer just solid on. the only issue i had was somehow I got the arrow keys assigned to my WASD, and to type WASD I had to use the arrow keys. couldnt find anything in the instructions on how I did that or how to fix it, but just replugging the keyboard solved the issue for me. Keyboard isn’t too heavy for the build quality on it, and overall I am absolutely loving this product! The switches feel great and the responsiveness is exactly what I was looking for as someone who sits at my desk coding for many hours of the day. This is one of the only keyboards i will actually use without the feet extended though as the angle of incline on the keyboard does seem pretty large, but not really anything worth knocking a star off for.Update: seller contacted me today and informed me it is FN+W to fix the issue with arrow keys! Loving this keyboard, and great communication by seller! cannot recommend enough

Nice little board let down by inconsistent backlighting

I struggled with rating this product. It is a very nicely built budget keyboard and the Outemu Blue switches are a pleasure to type on. The metal top plate is a nice touch and I like the floating plate-mount design. There are several brands selling this style of board on Amazon and all appear functionally the same and to have originated with the same OEM. I chose this particular one from E-Element because it has white backlighting as opposed to the per-row RGB of the others being sold. Personally, per-row RGB looks cheap, so this all white LED version was appealing to me. The problem is that the backlighting is inconsistent, with several keys noticeably less bright than the others; a few even have a yellowish hue to them. This is extremely distracting and reminds me that this is a budget board when looking at it. Maybe I expected too much from a budget board, but the QA on this should have caught that several of the switches had non-uniform backlighting. One other minor issue is that the keycaps are cut a bit sloppy with mold tags still on them. This isn’t a huge issue since they can be cleaned up with a knife, but it again speaks to a potential lack of QA. If I could be certain that I’d get a one with correct backlighting, I would exchange it. Unfortunately, this is getting returned for something else.EDIT: Rating raised from 3 stars 4 stars.I have been contacted by the seller who assures me that the keyboard should not have the issues with the LEDs and they’ve notified the factory. The additional star is for how quickly the seller has made an effort to resolve this matter. I appreciate good customer service and this manufacturer appears to care very much. I am typing this update on the keyboard and it is really a nice board for typing. Again, it has solid build quality and works well. My wife (who hates mechanical keyboards) enjoyed typing on this and gave it a thumbs up. I will still be returning/exchanging it due to the LED issue, but I am confident that this manufacturer/seller will take care of you.

    Great budget keyboard!

Your browser does not support HTML5 video.

I haven’t had a mechanical keyboard since my very first computer 20 years ago now, and as a writer with rheumatoid arthritis, I’ve been missing out. For the past decade or a little more, I’ve been using laptops and their built-in keyboards, and had developed a habit of typing really hard, literally pounding on the keyboard, in order to feel some tactile feedback. Obviously, this was hell on my arthritis, and as a writer who’s already had to abandon writing long projects with pen and paper, I wasn’t looking forward to the idea of having to abandon writing altogether, too. (Voice typing software has a long way to go before I trust it near my writing projects!)Thankfully, a friend said I should try mechanical keyboards because they’ve heard about people not typing as hard once they had some good tactile feedback, and I started looking for something I could afford. Enter this keyboard! The blue switches on this keyboard are very tactile and allow me to type without causing my hands too much pain, which is something I hadn’t even realized I could do. I’ll be changing the keycaps at some point because I’m not a fan of the ‘gamer font’ included on it and want something that better shows off the amazing backlights.Knocking off a star because when I get typing really fast, even though I can feel the click of the key, I sometimes see that a letter gets skipped. It’s not terribly often, not enough for me to stop using the keyboard anyway, but it is kind of a hassle to have already gotten several words more typed up before it registers to me that I’ve made a typo. But I’m a pretty fast typist, clocking in at 80+ wpm max speed, so my use case isn’t exactly ‘average’, either.EDIT: Discovered that the ripple pattern on the backlight was a specific culprit to the ghosted keypresses at high speeds. Switching to the slowly-shifting rainbow pattern has actually eliminated the issue. Still a neat effect, and if you’re not typing at professional speeds probably not an issue for you. If it is, switch to a different LED pattern with a constant animation instead of one that responds to your keypress.Backlights: I have the RGB backlights with blue switches, and I absolutely adore the ripple effect when I’m typing, although the patterns do get a little muddied when I get going, as you can see in the video. But I actually like that, since it means that the pattern is never quite the same depending on what I’m typing and how fast I’m typing at any given moment. As mentioned before, I’ll be looking for a set of keycaps to better show off these backlights, because they are an amazingly gorgeous part of the appeal to this keyboard. It’d be nice if there were a way to program the backlighting and colors using software on my computer, but I’m not particularly stuck on that and it’s kind of a take-it-or-leave-it thing for me at this juncture.Loudness: The blue switches on this keyboard are LOUD. I don’t mind it, personally, but if I were going for an office environment instead of using it at home, I would probably go for different switches, possibly brown. If you worry about keeping small children awake in the same room or bothering roommates or coworkers, definitely go for a different switch color over the prettier RGB LEDs.

    Very satisfied for the price

I purchased the version with brown switches. Be careful reading the reviews; it seems like some people are reviewing the Z-88.This is my first mechanical keyboard, so I’m going to talk a bit about how the keys feel and sound. If pressed down slowly, the brown switches feel a bit like running your finger over a rounded bump. For the most part, I feel the bump the same moment a letter appears on the screen; if I go extremely slowly though, I can keep it from triggering until a bit lower. In normal typing, this doesn’t really create a “stealth” effect unless I deliberately try to be quiet — there’s a definite clack as the key comes back up. The “tactile” feedback of the little bump is noticeable, but gets lost somewhat in typing. As for the keyboard itself, the layout is slightly compact compared to other keyboards I’ve used. It’s actually narrower than both my desktop keyboard and my laptop. At the moment, my fingers feel a bit cramped by this if it’s on my desk, but it’s quite comfortable if it’s on my lap.Like others, the aluminum on my keyboard has a slight ding on one corner despite being packaged well, so I agree that handling during manufacturing could use some improvement. But I don’t see it as a problem.

Build like a tank – metal casing rings annoyingly when typing.

Your browser does not support HTML5 video.

I searched for about a week for a decent mechanical keyboard to try without breaking the bank, and decided on this one. I’ve had this keyboard for approximately three hours, have done several typing tests on it and have found it to be a joy to type on. I have yet to play any games on it. I’m currently writing this review on it.Pros:+ Switches aren’t too loud and bounce back relatively fast.+ It’s pleasantly heavy and won’t move around much on your desk, provided you have the feet raised.+ Built like a tank.+ Lots of options for lighting customization, including breathing, water ripple, snake, individual keypress lightups, etc, as well as game-specific lighting arrangements and two individually customizable lighting arrangements.+ Pretty long USB cable (approx 6 feet.)+ Comes with a key puller, switch puller, and 5 spare switches.Cons:- Though keys respond well, somewhat squishy actuation force squishy and key travel (red keys) is something I’ll need to get used to, as I’m used to typing on a laptop style chiclet keyboard.- If you have the keyboard flat without the forward feet being raised, there’s no rubber anti-slide bumper provisions on the front-underside of the keyboard, so it will slide around.- The light colors are fixed in rainbow array. No solid color lighting.- The biggest deal breaker for me is the metallic “ringing” sound the keyboard makes when typing on it (see video, turn sound up.) If you’ve ever tapped on an open metal pipe, you’ll know exactly the sound I’m talking about.Overall, it’s a great mechanical keyboard for the price ($36.99 at time of purchase), but sadly, I don’t think I’ll be keeping it due to the metallic ringing sound it makes when typing. If you’re looking to get a mechanical keyboard and don’t want extra sound on top of the “clickyness” that is very much characteristic of them, I would advise staying away from a keyboard with a metal body or part of one.

Quiet, fast typing for a low price

I was gifted the blue switch version of this keyboard over a year ago, and it was just. too. LOUD! It was okay during the day, but I had it at home, and working on it at night slowed down my typing because I was concerned I would wake up the rest of the house with all the loud clicking. Finally, I got myself this red switch version of the same keyboard, knowing that I already was satisfied with the consistent key output, travel, not-too-bright light patterns (7 preset ones are fine for me, I don’t need to burn time playing with lights instead of typing), and ESPECIALLY the very quiet clicks! As a result, my typing speed has gone up since I’m not conscious of the noise each keypress is making. The keys travel maybe 4mm before bottoming out, but I only have to press them about 1-1.5mm to see feedback on the screen. The keyboard itself comes with about fout feet of USB cable permanently attached to the back of the unit, and thoughtfully includes a hook and loop fastener on the cord for cable management. The keyboard is nicely packed in a box just barely larger than the keyboard itself, but still allowing for two layers of padded pouches to protect the keyboard. Also in the box are five replacement red switches, as well as a keycap puller and switch puller. If you want a well-built, illuminated mechanical keyboard that reliably spits out what you type at a rapid pace, and doesn’t cost over $40, I highly recommend this. If you’re a hardcore gamer that needs a mechanical keyboard with customizable illumination and more features (like media control, etc.), consider Logitech, Corsair, or Razer offerings at 3-4x the price…or even higher!

Awesome board, even for double the price!

My name is Rob and I am addicted to keyboards.I bought this purely out of curiosity. I have about 12 keyboards in my office right now ranging from my daily Realforce 87u 55g to a Magnesium Varmilo 68 to a couple I built myself. I was wondering how these new super low priced mechanical keyboards compare for what seems like an impossible price point.I was blown away. I really don’t know how they do it, this keyboard is really good. Sure it may not be the same quality as some of my others but it is 1/10 the price. The Outemu switches are great and have a very satisfying click. This board has been reviewed to death but I just wanted to throw in my 2c. If I was going to get just one board and money was an issue, I would save my money and get this over any of the major brands with Cherry Blues. Actually even without money being an issue, I believe people should get this over just about any TKL Cherry Blue board.

    Decent value but not perfect

First the good. The blue switches seem to be decent quality and I found this keyboard instantly comfortable. I think that the feel on the space bar could be improved but I’m really nitpicking there. The overall key feel is very nice and well worth the money. The lighting is decent and adds some fun to this board but there is some inattention to detail here. The orange keys are dimmer than the others. The purple has a similar but less noticeable difference. Using the custom lighting modes you can see that the more lights in a row are on the dimmer they are. I’m sure that this saved some money but it also makes it clear that they could have delivered a little more power to orange and purple to bring them up to the same luminosity as the other colors. Mechanical keyboards are superior and now that they can be had at prices like this, there is no reason to buy anything else. I wish that they offered some other switch options. The blues feel great but I prefer the softer sound of browns when I can find them. Overall I like this keyboard and I’d give it five stars if the orange keys matched the other five rows.
