    NOT a clicky keyboard.

First, I’m a bit prejudiced as I am a SteelSeries fanboy. I really like this KB, as I think the coarse action (there is no click, neither tactile nor audible) is more suited to gaming than a clicky kb. Note it isn’t an entirely smooth action; there is a ‘coarse’ feel to the action so there is some feedback. It’s not for everybody, but it is for me.

    Recertified product not new.

The product itself is good, much better than my old keyboard. My only problem is that it came in a recertified box and not new. That should be listed in the description period.

This keyboard feels really, really good

I’ve spent a bunch of time gaming and typing with the Apex 150. Overall, I really like it. I’ll go over some of its strengths and weaknesses below. The first thing I noticed is the build quality. This thing is heavy. Super heavy. I don’t know if that necessarily means it’s built well, but they convinced me regardless. The board and the keys seem very durable and structurally sound. No part of this seems flimsy or cheaply built. The rear height is adjustable with metal flippable legs.Probably my favorite thing about this keyboard is the way the keys texturally feel and press. Each key is slightly concave, so your fingers kind of stay in the little groove and lock it in place. They also feel really good. They feel almost rubbery. As a gamer, this is all very helpful in keeping your fingers where you want them to be and not slipping over to keys nearby. They are extremely quiet and make almost no sound at all. If you’re after a super clicky and mechanical feel, this board isn’t it. They do “click”, but it’s a smooth, dampened press. The lighting is pretty good. There are 7 or 8 options, nothing too fancy. Solid RGB and white, a smooth transition, a fast transition and a blink. You can adjust the brightness, which I really like. It can get very dim or very bright depending on your preference. The keyboard just feels really good. It seems like a good quality piece of hardware and is texturally and ergonomically solid. It also seems to be improving my FPS gameplay. It could just be a coincidence, but stats don’t lie.

    Good gear, good software.

Swapped out a lot my Razer gear because I was tired of Synapse app sucking. Steel Serise stuff is amazing and the software is top tier.Good gear, good software.

Gamer/Typist. This KB feels great !

First off I’m using my gf’s prime account, and a brief overview I am an avid PC gamer and I type fast (I’d like to think I do, 70wpm, 80wpm on a good day). So as a gamer and as a typist I can say this keyboard has been phenomenal so far. I was considered about Steelseries unique switches, but they honestly handle like the Cherry Reds, but less clicky. I have been able to type around my avg speed and playing FPS games (spamming WASD) has been smooth. Some people may not like how sensitive the keyboard is, especially if you have heavier hands and fingers when you type. The Prism Sync and Audio sync applets within the SteelSeries configuration application is pretty cool. I don’t really care about the RGB, more so the switches and how the board feels. If this is in sale below $100, get it. But if it’s at $140, you honestly should just get a RAZR or Corsair with media keys for around the same price. Will update review in a few months to see how the wear on it holds up.

    Key Feature Missing

I was looking for a new keyboard and my MSI gaming laptop uses Steelseries and like it,.The Pros – The lighting effects look impressive when you have friends over! The keys respond very well and even in heated game play there is no ghosting.Cons – I was comparing several keyboards and why I choose this one was because of “Reactive illumination to in-game events like low ammo, health, kills, and more”, well there are only 4 games they have setup. You can buy a $119 add-on called ifeelpixel. You do have the option of using JSON and writing your own. I would not have picked this keyboard if I knew only a few games were setup to use the low health, ammo feature. The keys are loud so when I play or type at night i worry about the sound. It is not as comfortable as my last keyboard but a wrist rest may fix that.Overall is seems like a well built keyboard with cool looking lighting effects but a little deceptive in the description.

    Quality Keyboard – Amazing Value

This keyboard exceeded my expectations, maybe in part because I didn’t read the entire product description since I was a few beers deep when I clicked “Purchase”, but nonetheless, I have to say I’m impressed with how quiet this keyboard is. I’ve never owned a keyboard that was this quiet. It really helps when I’m playing games with friends, because then they don’t hear my background noise of keys clicking and clacking over my microphone. The customization of colors on this keyboard is pretty cool, although, I’d still buy this keyboard without that feature. My inventory of SteelSeries products is growing more and more, this is a great brand making a quality product.

Overall great, switches not as smooth as real Cherry MX

I have used a couple of keyboards with Cherry MX Browns and I wanted to try an MX Red type switch since most of my use now is gaming with a lot less typing than before. Overall I’m not disappointed here. Steel’s custom switches with Cherry Red characteristics have been great so far. I do randomly notice I’m setting off the keys sometimes as even though they have the same actuation force, the Brown’s actually have a pressure point bump after just over 1mm of travel that seems to resist letting that happen. There’s no such bump on reds and the actuation point and force is the same. I did knock off one overall point for the feel/sound of the switches. They don’t feel quite as smooth as my Ducky keyboard, and they have a more hollow/pronounced sound slightly.Lighting is great. I have a Steelseries mouse as well so I can keep the two synced when I’m not just using a solid color. Speaking of that, I’ve seen some reviews with “RGB hate” in them. Here’s the thing, lit keyboards/etc. have been around since way before RGB. However, if you wanted to get a different color, you had to buy a new thing. RGB just means you can changed it at will and overall save a bunch of $$$, potentially of course. The “RGB puke” issue is a totally different problem. It’s good for marketing and looks flashy etc. Just remember, that doesn’t mean you’re forced to display it like that. Every RGB product I’ve seen or owned has a way to just set it to a specific color, and even make it just steady at that color if desired.

Pretty good keyboard, software marred by oversight

CONS—1. Software–a huge oversight (yes, IMHO) is that, on macOS at least, the software is unusable by ALL other computer accounts/users other than the account used to install the software even though the app, libraries, et cetera are installed into the hard drive’s main directories (ie /Applications and /Library rather than account-specific directories). All is fine as long as only ONE computer account is going to be used to access the software.2. “Support” filing a ticket with SteelSeries support gets me this reply;”I’m so sorry for the bad news, but the software will only function on the account it was installed on.”That’s it. It’s not a “recognized problem” or “issue” to be corrected.3. Support, again. You go ahead and find this keyboard on their “Support” page. If you find it, let me know. Unless it’s a fairly new product you’re not going to find reference material on their site. A downloadable manual would be awesome. Can you find one?4. Coming from having a gaming keyboard with individually backlit keys I find having the “flood/ambient lighting” behind the keys is distracting. It’s cool to look at (if you’re just admiring it) but is visually confusing/distracting when glancing down to try to quickly locate a key.PROS—1. The keys are silent with a really good balance of tactile feedback/resistance. It’s great if you’re concerned about loud/clacking keyboards annoying the people you live with or if you just find clacking keyboards annoying in general (as I do).2. While the majority of the build is plastic it still feels strong and well built.Overall, it’s a good keyboard but had I known I was going to have this experience with the software and support I’d have gone with (and currently plan to if this doesn’t change) competitor products I’ve used throughout the years.Thank you.

if you use the standard wasd keys for movement and such in fps games you shouldn’t have issues with certain key combinations not registering like with cheap USB membrane keyboards

First of all: gaming performance, The apex 150 will probably meet the needs of 90% or more of the gaming populace, if you use the standard wasd keys for movement and such in fps games you shouldn’t have issues with certain key combinations not registering like with cheap USB membrane keyboards. All the most used gaming keys seem to be wired individually so personally I don’t notice the difference between this and keyboards that have full N-key rollover. For those that use non-standard layouts in the middle of the board you may be stuck with something more like 6-key rollover. If keystroke feel is purely what you care about, I personally prefer tactile mechanical switches like cherry browns. These keys feel a lot like overgrown gamepad buttons, and all the keys feel consistent, no button is harder or looser than any other. Still, my fingers automatically want to button mash leading to sore fingertips after a few hours of intense gameplay, this doesn’t happen with mechanical switches. The benefit of this keyboard compared to any mechanical keyboard I’ve used is that it’s basically silent even compared to “silent” mechanical switches, and since these actually have some tactile feedback, I prefer them to the ubiquitous and more expensive cherry red based gaming keyboards. If you’re unfortunate enough to live with people that can’t stand the sound of keyboard clattering, or you want to cut out background noise for streaming, I would say this is a good option. The lighting serves it’s functional purpose if you play and type in the dark, but some of the keycaps are thicker than others so the brightness of some keys is different than others. If this is a problem, get a keyboard with individually lit keys or set up the lighting with a breathing animation to make it very slightly less noticable. If you try to set the keys all white, you’ll get a sort of purple tinted white, meh. There’s no dedicated media keys so it’s just function keys (the key with the steelseries logo acts as Fn). What else can I say… the board is sturdy with minimal flex, the rubber feet do well at keeping it from sliding around on your desk (there’s rubber at all four corners whether or not the board is raised or lowered in the back).
